Students spend a quarter of their young adult lives on a college campus. We consider it our responsibility to design spaces that help mold students during these crucial years. Whether it’s classrooms with ample daylight and unique sustainable features, student housing with modern amenities, innovative athletic complexes, or flexible dining facilities, we understand what students need and administrators want. We create engaging spaces where students can live, study, play, learn, and grow.

Today’s college students 1 When they see wire-rimmed glasses, they think Harry Potter, not John Lennon. 2 “Press pound” on the phone is now translated as “hit hashtag.” 3 The water cooler is no longer the workplace social center; it’s the place to fill your water bottle. 4 “Good feedback” means getting 30 likes on your last Facebook post in a single afternoon. 5 They are the sharing generation, having shown tendencies to share everything, including possessions, no matter how personal.
6 They have known only two presidents.
7 Rites of passage have more to do with having their own cell phone and Skype accounts than with getting a driver’s license and car.
8 A tablet is no longer something taken in the morning.
9 With GPS, they have never needed directions to get someplace, just an address.
10 They have never attended a concert in a smoke-filled arena.
11 Robert De Niro is thought of as Greg Focker’s long-suffering father-in-law, not as Vito Corleone or Jimmy Conway. 12 They have never seen an airplane “ticket.” 13 There has always been football in Jacksonville but never in Los Angeles. 14 Their folks have never gazed with pride on a new set of bound encyclopedias on the bookshelf. 15 The Green Bay Packers have always celebrated with the Lambeau Leap. 16 Women have always piloted war planes and space shuttles. 17 Probably the most tribal generation in history, they despise being separated from contact with their similar-aged friends. 18 Before they purchase an assigned textbook, they will investigate whether it is available for rent or purchase as an e-book. 19 History has always had its own channel. 20 Lou Gehrig’s record for most consecutive baseball games played has never stood in their lifetimes.

62 A two-story rainwater harvesting system incorporates four 9,000-gallon cisterns that collect rainwater from a large canopy and the roofs of two adjacent administrative buildings. The cisterns feed into a 40,000-gallon underground storage tank that provides the primary water source for irrigation of the surrounding landscape. The entire system holds more than 70,000 gallons of water.
