Stay in COMFORT AND LUXURY RELAX IN STYLISH SURROUNDINGS Accommodation is usually high up on the list of importance on any holiday. At the end of a day’s travel or activity, you’ll want to freshen up and relax in a hotel that makes you feel at home. That’s why the properties featured on all our touring holidays have been carefully chosen for their superior level of comfort, exceptional amenities, friendly staff and for their superb location.
SOLO TRAVELLERS Many of the people who join us on a Kirra holiday are travelling by themselves so if you’re a solo traveller, rest assured that you’ll be with other like-minded people. On any given departure, you’ll usually find a mix of couples and friends travelling together, but plenty of others will be on their own too. One of the great benefits of our trips is that they allow you to be independent but provide you with security and company whenever you choose. Should you wish to save money as a single traveller, you are welcome to purchase your tour on a twin share basis and Kirra will endeavour to match you with another single traveller of the same gender. If there are no other travellers to match you with, you will be provided with a single room at no additional charge. (Shared twin option available on Classic and Highlights tours only).
FABULOUS FOOD On every holiday, you will start the day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel. Many tours include sumptuous evening meals as well as specialty dining experiences but on those nights when dinner has not been included, we encourage you to seek out and enjoy the great variety of bistros, cafes and restaurants that offer indoor and al-fresco dining. After all, discovering new and exciting places to eat is a fun part of any travel experience!
8
STAY AN EXTRA NIGHT OR TWO If time permits, we hope you take the opportunity to stay a few extra nights in the gateway cities, either at the beginning or end of your holiday. We particularly recommend this for any travellers arriving off long-haul flights. An extra day or two will certainly help you get over any jetlag and will ensure you are relaxed and refreshed before setting off on your journey around New Zealand.

Exciting RAIL JOURNEYS On many of our trips, Kirra include one or several of New Zealand’s great rail journeys. Travelling by train allows you to sit back, relax in comfort and enjoy spectacular scenery you simply can't see from the road.
DRIVING CREEK RAILWAY At the North Island township of Coromandel, experience New Zealand’s only narrow-gauge mountain railway along with a working pottery and wildlife sanctuary. One of New Zealand’s most popular train rides, Driving Creek Railway will take you through replanted native kauri forest and across several large viaducts as you make your way to the mountain terminus. From here you’ll enjoy great panoramic views over the island studded Hauraki Gulf with the forested valley and mountains behind.
COASTAL PACIFIC The Coastal Pacific train travels between Christchurch and Picton. The scenery is truly remarkable. The journey starts by crossing the Canterbury Plains, where vast braided rivers dissect a patchwork of horticultural and farming landscapes. Then travel along a thin strip of coastal land with the Kaikoura Ranges rising steeply on one side and the Pacific Ocean swells washing over a rocky coastline on the other. Seals and penguins can often be seen on the rocks as you continue your journey to the picturesque fishing village of Picton in the Marlborough Sounds. In total, the Coastal Pacific will carry you through 22 tunnels and across 175 bridges.
TRANZALPINE The other intrepid South Island rail route is one of the world’s most scenic. The TranzAlpine will take you on a coast to coast train journey through the spectacular Southern Alps. It links the city of Christchurch to historic Greymouth, a river town on the rugged West Coast. Highlights include the 73 metre high Staircase viaduct, Arthur’s Pass National Park and the Otira tunnel. You will experience a total of 19 tunnels and four viaducts and the outdoor viewing carriage will get you close to the fresh alpine air and awesome scenery. Other rail journeys including the Taieri Gorge in Dunedin are available to purchase as optional excursions subject to timing and availability. 12
MILFORD SOUND Described by Rudyard Kipling as the eighth Wonder of the World, Milford Sound is acclaimed as New Zealand’s most famous tourist destination. It was carved out by glaciers during the ice ages and is truly breathtaking in any weather. The fiord’s cliffs rise vertically from still, dark waters, mountain peaks scrape the sky and dense rainforests cling to sheer rock faces. Waterfalls cascade downwards, some as high as 1000 metres and when it rains in Milford Sound (and it often does), those waterfalls multiply with magnificent effect. Every Kirra tour includes a leisurely and informative scenic nature cruise the full length of this spectacular fiord and you will enjoy expert commentary by specialist on-board nature guides as you view spectacular waterfalls, rainforests, mountains and wildlife.
Spectacular WILDERNESS CRUISES
DOUBTFUL SOUND Doubtful Sound is the second largest fiord in the Fiordland National Park and is a remote wilderness area three times longer and ten times larger than Milford. With its rugged peaks, verdant rainforest and twisting, hidden inlets, Doubtful Sound will take your breath away. Home to abundant wildlife you may see bottlenose dolphins and fur seals at play, or catch a glimpse of a rare Fiordland Crested Penguin. Getting to Doubtful Sound is an adventure in itself. With no direct road access, the only way you can to get to Doubtful Sound is by a cruise across Lake Manapouri and a coach trip over Wilmot Pass. This isolation makes this pristine fiord a very special place, a place only those in the know get to see. On certain tours, Kirra also offer you the opportunity to experience an overnight cruise in either Milford or Doubtful Sounds. Designed along the lines of a traditional scow, these vessels blend old world charm with modern comforts that include spacious viewing decks, a dining saloon, fully licensed bar and an observation lounge. After dropping anchor in a sheltered cove, you can choose to explore the shoreline by kayak or tender boat or simply relax onboard. For the more adventurous (or very brave), there’s even a chance to go swimming! In the evening, enjoy a delicious three course buffet dinner prepared by the onboard chefs and served in the dining saloon. Mingle with fellow travellers, savour some fine wines and if the skies are clear in the evening, spend some time on the upper deck gazing at the stars before retiring to your cabin with private ensuite bathroom. Overnight cruises get booked out well in advance so be sure to advise Kirra at the time of booking if you would like to check availability and prices.

Frequently Asked QUESTIONS We have set out below our answers to some commonly asked questions to help you in your decision making. Should you have anything else you would like to know, please don’t hesitate to ask us or your travel agent who will be only too pleased to assist. What is the typical age group of the people who travel on your tours? Our tours appeal to a broad range of ages but typically, the majority of clients are in the 50+ age group. When is the best time to come to NZ? The most popular time to visit us is between September & March, our spring and summer months. However, being an all-year round destination, autumn & winter offer something different and there are great savings to be enjoyed if you travel during this period. Are you able to cater to special dietary requirements? More often than not, special dietary requirements can easily be catered for. However, it is important that you let us know at the time of booking so that your request can be passed on to the relevant hotels and suppliers. Can I choose my own seat? Your Coach Captain will maintain a daily seat rotation plan that not only provides an equal touring experience for all our passengers, but also allows you the opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers. Can I use my mobile phone in New Zealand? Most service providers offer an international roaming facility that will allow you to receive and make phone calls using your existing phone number while travelling in New Zealand. Higher call rates usually apply when using this facility though, so we recommend checking with your service provider before activating roaming. Alternatively, you can purchase a prepaid SIM card when you arrive in New Zealand. These are available through the following mobile service operators: 2 Degrees, Spark and Vodafone.
Are there laundries at the hotels we stay in? Many properties have guest laundries equipped with washing machines & dryers. These are available at a nominal charge. You may also find that these facilities are available in your room or apartment at some locations. Hotel dry-cleaning and laundry services are available throughout New Zealand. Do I need to be physically fit to travel on your tours? You need only be in good health and of average fitness to enjoy our tours. The activities and sightseeing included has been specifically selected with our typical age group in mind but if you have any concerns at all, please ask your travel agent to contact us and we will be pleased to offer advice. Can I pre-book additional sightseeing before I leave home? You’re very welcome to discuss and pre-book extra activities with your travel agent for those leisure days when nothing has been planned. Alternatively, your Coach Captain will be happy to offer recommendations and make bookings for you throughout your journey. When do I receive my tour documents? We normally provide your travel agent with a copy of your final itinerary approximately 4 weeks prior to travel date. All your vouchers, detailed itinerary & holiday information will be provided in a welcome pack that will be given to you on arrival in NZ by your transfer driver or upon check-in at your hotel. Are transfers included if I arrive early? Yes, transfers will still be included from the airport, ferry terminal, train station, bus station or cruise port to your pre and/or post tour accommodation. The type of transfer provided will change depending on where you are coming from and where you are going to. Ask your consultant for more information.
What is the smoking policy in NZ? Smoking is prohibited by law in coaches, bars, restaurants, cafes, casinos & other public buildings. Most hotels & resorts are now entirely smoke-free so if you do smoke, we would respectfully request that you remember to do so outside. What sort of clothing should I bring with me? New Zealand weather can be a little unpredictable at times so we recommend layering as a good option. Casual & informal is the norm but be sure to pack a light, waterproof jacket and comfortable footwear. How much luggage can we bring with us? Each traveller is entitled to take one suitcase with them. The maximum weight allowed by most airlines is one piece up to 23kg, and excess charges may apply if this allowance is exceeded. Please check with your airline. Are your tours suitable for children? Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on our tours and children under the age of 16 are not permitted on the Platinum Collection small group touring program. Children prices are available on application. Is tipping expected? Tipping in NZ is neither mandatory nor expected but should you choose to reward a job well done, it is always greatly appreciated. Do I need a passport or visa to enter New Zealand All visitors to New Zealand must carry a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the date you intend to leave the country. If you belong to one of the following, you do not need to get a visa to enter New Zealand: · New Zealand citizen · Australian citizen · Holder of a current NZ residence class visa · Holder of an Australian permanent residence visa · Holder of an Australian resident return visa · Citizen of a visa-waiver country

Complaints In the unlikely event that a problem occurs during your holiday, it is important that you immediately inform your Coach Captain or the provider of the service. If that is not sufficient to resolve the matter then contact the NZ office of Kirra Holidays. If your complaint cannot be resolved satisfactorily at that time, you must write to our office within 30 days of your return to your home country supplying all the relevant details. 15. Special Requests We will endeavour to fulfill any special requests (eg. special room or dietary requirements) and will pass on your request to our suppliers. You must advise us of any such requirement at the time of booking in writing no later than 45 days prior to departure. Kirra has limitations on the number of wheelchair travellers it can cater for. Please contact us for availability. 16. Minors & Children Passengers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during any tour. Children fares are available on application. Unfortunately children under 5 are not allowed on our touring programs and children under the age of 16 are not permitted on our Platinum Collection small group touring program. 17. Holiday duration The first and last day of your holiday itinerary are travelling days and therefore depending on flight arrival/departure times, may not necessarily be a whole day. 18. Travel Insurance Travel insurance is not included in your tour cost. It is strongly recommended that insurance be taken out to protect you against cancellation charges, loss or damage of personal effects, ill health and medical expenses and any other unforeseen insurable events. Please discuss this with your travel agent at time of booking. 19. Independent arrangements & excursions Any air and land arrangements you make independently which do not form part of the tour are entirely done so at your own risk. Should you book any excursions or additional travel arrangements while on your holiday with us, please note we act only as your booking agent and should anything go wrong with any such arrangements, your rights will lie solely against the organisations supplying such arrangements. 20. Liability 20.1 Responsibility: You acknowledge and agree that Kirra accepts no responsibility and will not be liable to you or any third party for any loss, cost or damage (including loss of enjoyment) suffered directly or indirectly in connection with: (a) any risks or other aspects of any tour or other travel arrangement notified to you by or on behalf of Kirra (in these Terms or otherwise); (b) any change to your itinerary or delays in departure or arrival times of aircraft or otherwise during the conduct of any tour or other travel arrangement; (c) any loss or damage to your baggage; (d) any personal injury or death resulting from the acts or omissions or negligence of any third parties providing goods or services to you during your tour or other travel arrangements including, without limitation, air carriers, hotels, restaurateurs, transportation providers and/or medical personnel; or (e) any loss of enjoyment by you due to circumstances outlined in these Terms or otherwise beyond Kirra control. (f) Passengers will not be permitted to embark or continue on tour while their mental or physical condition is, in the opinion of any representative of Kirra, such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves, or whereby they become objectionable to other passengers, or they become a hazard to themselves or other passengers.
20.2 Total liability: Notwithstanding any other provision of these Terms, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, Kirra maximum liability to you or any third party (including any claims of negligence on the part of Kirra) is limited to the amounts actually paid by you with respect to your booking (excluding insurance premiums, Variation Fees and Additional fees (as applicable)). 20.3 Consequential loss: Kirra will not be liable for any loss of enjoyment, opportunity, profit, savings, revenue or interest or any other consequential or indirect, incidental, special or punitive loss, damage or expenses even if Kirra has been advised of their possible existence and even if such loss, damage or expense is caused by Kirra negligence. 20.4 Indemnity: You agree to indemnify Kirra for any loss or damage suffered by Kirra as a result of, or in connection with, any breach of these Terms or any negligence or wilful default, by you (or any other person covered by your booking). 20.5 Force Majeure: Kirra shall not be liable for any delay or for any failure to fulfil its obligations under these Terms (or any service obligations to you) if the failure or delay arises directly or indirectly from or as a consequence of any Force Majeure Event (as defined in the Terms). 21. Accident Compensation Scheme You acknowledge that New Zealand has a no fault law and claims are handled by the Accident Compensation Commission (“ACC”) pursuant to governing legislation, including the Accident Compensation Act 2001. Because of the wide range of help available from ACC after an injury, you can’t sue for personal injury in New Zealand, except for exemplary damages. 22. General 22.1 The Terms may be subject to amendment by Kirra from time to time. 22.2 Additional terms and conditions (over and above those specified in the Terms) may apply to your booking and will be advised by your Kirra representative at the time of booking (or variation thereof). 22.3 The Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts. 22.4 This summary together with the Terms constitute the entire agreement between the parties about its subject matter and any previous agreements, understandings and negotiations on that subject matter have no effect. 23.
