Every year the world loses around 25 mother tongues. That equates to losing 250 languages over a decade, which for some is a sad ideology. Dialects can show numerous quirks and it’s these elements that differentiate human identities around the world. The Yorkshire dialect is one of those that is in danger of dying out, as cultural change moves in and becomes the driving force. As a way to embrace and celebrate the Yorkshire dialect, this book visually represents a conversation I had with my Grandad, where we spoke about life, growing up during the 1930’s, and how life is now in Yorkshire. The spoken Yorkshire-sounding words, imagery and typography within this book depict the gradual dispertion of the dialect, and acts as a visual metaphor and message to celebrate what is left of our dialects history.
