BRANDING INPRESS DESIGN BRIEF: Brand ‘inpress’ collective as a design studio; a collective of four print driven graphic designers. Produce design material to sell at shop. Inpress design are a collective of four print driven graphic designers based in Leeds who have two main focuses; as a print based design studio creating a variation of work both for clients and independent projects, and the management of collaborative events. The quarterly events hosted by inpress can be described as a mixture of exhibitions, sales and design shows; that often feature the work of guest designers. The events offer a platform to network with other students and professionals within the creative community of Leeds. Niall and I designed the logo and business cards. The logo design uses the typeface Akzidenz-Grotesk and has been carefully designed to ensure the ‘p’ and ‘d’ are in alignment. The duplexed business cards have an upper side which is printed in one of three spot colours: Pantone Solid Matte 285M Pantone Solid Matte 375M Pantone Solid Matte 1787M onto 300 gsm Somerset paper stock, with the company logo debossed into this. The alternate side is letterpressed with black ink to communicate our contact information: website, email and twitter name.
KIRSTY FRUIN (1/4) OUGD301 BRIEF 1:: inpress design
BRANDING INPRESS DESIGN I produced the inpress letterhead and compliment slip. They will be been printed onto 100 gsm one sided colour stock; each of the printed materials will have one side printed in one of the three inpress spot colours. This colour is also presented on the front of the print collateral as a linear box, this brings the colour through from the reverse side and also works in coherence with the website design. Both the letterhead, compliment slip and business cards will be printed across these three colours in order to create a variation. As we do not currently have a permanent studio address, the letterhead and compliment slips contain other means in which we can be contacted; telephone number, email address and our twitter name. The letterheads will be used if we require formal written correspondence with professionals or clients. The compliment slips will be used to thank people for any business we have with them; predominantly purchasing items from our website.

BRANDING INPRESS DESIGN I designed the inpress website, which has four pages: -Work -Contact -About -Shop
work
From the inpress home page, the user can scroll into the area of the page they wish to view: up for work, down for contact, left for about or right for our shop. Alternatively the user can click on the coloured bar of the page they wish to view. In presenting the user with these two options to navigate our website, it enables us to reach a wider audience and not just target mac users.

Each of these four pages are colour coded in one of the three inpress colours, with the addition of yellow.
The transitions from the home page to each page can be found on my design practice blog (in GIF format). contact
Each page will continue to use this colour coding system, this will enable easy navigation of our website and rapid recognition of which page the user is viewing. The colour scheme and layout has purposely remained minimal to allow the attention to be on the content of the website; the work and about inpress design.

INPRESS DESIGN EVENTS We held our third event at Dock Street Market with our opening night Friday 30th November 2012 and the shop open Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December 2012. For this event I sold notebooks (products I previously made for our summer events), Christmas cards and a embossed type A6 postcard. I also sold my UrbanTease t-shirts (Brief 2) and my Sustainable Christmas cards (Brief 3), making these two briefs become live. Each member of inpress produced an A6 postcard, these were then sold individually and as a set. My A6 postcard used a quote from Joe Sparano; ‘Good design is obvious. Great design is transparent.’ I considered the use of print processes to enable this quote make sense in the context that it was being presented. By digitally printing the first sentence and embossing the second sentence, I was using a specialist print to make the design not only ‘great’ but also ‘transparent.’ This was printed and embossed onto 100 gsm Laid paper. My design was approved by other designers and sold well. Inpress also held a shop at Creative Networks, Revolution Ink, Pool and Spur Magazine launch. Inpress have been interviewed and designed a printed a pull-out poster for Spur magazine.
