Assess the panoptic measures 'Apple' uses in order to meet the needs of the consumer and remain a superbrand. Richard Miles
Rationale (200 words) During this module, I am going to produce work for my portfolio which demonstrates who I want to be and who I am as a designer, as this will help me gain future employment and placement opportunities. This will include work which exploits my full skill set and demonstrates my ability to produce informed design solutions to identified problems. I will work predominately on branding/ editorial/ layout /digital design as this is the design direction I want to take and I want my portfolio to reflect this. I am going to improve my photography skills as this will allow me to present my work better in my portfolio and through my online presence. I will improve my type and layout skills though a focus on print, as this will allow me to apply high spec print processes to my work whilst improving my typographic and design skills. I am going to improve my ability to design digitally: website and app design, as this will make me a more eclectic designer with a multiple skill set, seen as design is moving more into the digital era I need to have digital design as one of my skills. I will work both independently and collaboratively as this will demonstrate my ability work alongside people/ other designers as well as on my own. I will work on live briefs to show I am able to work with real clients on real design problems. I will gain a deeper understanding of art history and more cultured design as this will build my design knowledge and inform my design decisions. I am going to research entrepreneurial opportunities as this will provide me with the opportunity to get myself and my design out into the real world and reach different audiences. I will discover whether there are any areas of my work which need to be improved upon as this will help me progress as a designer.
Statement of Intent (SOI) - (400 words) In week one, as part of InPress I will be researching into potential exhibition spaces to hold our next event at and other spaces or events where we could possibly sell our work. For my Republic Tees brief I will research into promotional material, product, swing tickets, packaging and in-store presentation via both primary (store visits) and secondary research. In week two, InPress will decide where and when we are going to hold our next event and what work we need to produce for it. We will also research (primary visits) other small design studios to see how they brand and promote themselves as designers. For my Republic Tees brief, I will design promotional material identity and apply this design to swing tickets and packaging for the products. In week three, InPress will design our new identity. We will produce a logo and apply this to business cards. For my Republic Tees brief, I will print the promotional material I have designed. I will also design the website and app for the Republic Tee collection. In week four, InPress will print our business cards and design our website. I will photograph my collection for my Republic Tee brief and present my work on design boards. In week five, InPress will design the promotional material for our event and print it. I will also begin to design my personal work for the event and we will send out a call for guest designers to also sell work at the event. I will begin to research into sustainable design for my RSA Change Makers brief; what sustainable design is/ isn’t, how to produce sustainable design and sustainable design I can achieve within my provisions. I will begin to research into my Hope branding brief by visiting high street clothing stores to collect primary research and looking into local competition for the company. In week six, InPress will distribute our promotional material via print and social media in order to gain publicity for our event. I will also continue to design my personal work for the event. I will continue to research for my RSA Change Makers brief into what design will inspire other designers, how to get my design to designers and who I should sent it to. For my Hope re-branding brief, I will apply the logo design to business cards, packaging and swing tickets. In week seven, I will print my personal work for the InPress event and we will continue to promote our event through printed matter, social media and word of mouth. I will begin to design for my RSA Change Makers brief with the sustainable restraints in mind that I have learnt from my research. I will print and photograph my work for the Hope Re-brand brief. In week eight, I will finalise and organise my work, as well as run the InPress event. I will continue to design for my RSA Change Makers brief. For my Hope re-brand brief, I will design my final design boards and print these ready for submission. In week nine, I will document the InPress event run previously. I will print and send my designs for the RSA Change Makers brief. In week ten, I will document the InPress development over the past 10 weeks on design boards.
