Module Title
A PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION NAME KIRSTY FRUIN Throughout this module I have made a conscious effort to project and time manage my briefs to ensure that I get all the necessary work completed in time for module submission. I have done this by creating a time plan of my brief management and sticking to it best I can; if for some unforeseen circumstance I have not stuck to my plan, I have reworked my briefs around the time available to me. To ensure I did not panic about the amount of work I had to produce, I tried to evenly distribute my work load throughout the time available to me in this module. I also produced regular to-do lists and resultant time plans for the brief I was working on; no matter where I was in the timescale of the module, this ensured I worked towards what I needed to achieve for each brief and seemed to be effective to my working routine. Having been ill for the last two weeks of this module did set me back a little; although I shouldn始t have even been working I pushed myself to do so but could only achieve a very small amount of work each day during this period. Thankfully, I had worked hard at the beginning of the brief so I have managed to pull it all together in time for the module submission. In terms of the design production of my work, I have considered right from the design process how I can produce my work to include these specialist printing techniques and not let this hold back from my designs. I have pushed myself to utilise the college resources, from creating embossing plates to laser cutting, this has enhanced the outcomes of my briefs greatly. Having said this, I do feel that I could still use more specialist print processes within my work and spend a little more time crafting the end product to enhance the overall appearance and ensure it is produced to the highest standard possible. I feel I am more focused with the direction I want my design to take, which has meant that I have been looking at design which is more specific to my chosen design practice; branding and identity. This had enabled me to begin to produce my own design style; minimal with a hint of colour, and apply this to the different briefs I tackle. However, I need to ensure that I blog these visual contextual references, no matter how little relevance they may have to my brief at the time because they will no doubt influence my design decisions at some point. In addition to this, when I undertake my final major project I need to ensure that I produce ongoing documentation of sources used in order to create my bibliography. I need to file all my time plans away in my project file as this will save me time when it comes to module submission. I have begun to make an effort to engage with tutors more when in and around the studio. Nevertheless, I think this is an aspect of my design development that I feel I can still improve upon. In having the opportunity to speak to tutors about my personal design practice and seeing first hand how much they can help me has made me
realise that I need to make the most of this opportunity. I also need to utilise the fact that I am surrounded by designers in the studio on a daily basis; I need to engage more with my peers with regard to my design work. Being in and around the studio with other designers and seeing the standard of work they are producing has made me aware that I need to improve my standard of work for final major project. In having completed this module I feel it has prepared me to tackle my final major project; I feel ready to learn from my mistakes and achievements, better myself and up my game. Most importantly, I need to ensure that I use my time effectively on each brief and put into practice what I have learnt from the briefs I enjoyed the most during this module so I can have the same enjoyment throughout my final major project.
