The Brief A YCN Competition Brief for UK Greeting Cards. To design a range of greetings cards that stand out from the markets competition. The cards can be for any occasion, must have a concept theme and be suitable for a target audience of 16-34 year olds. The greetings card industry is a huge, competative market, so the set of cards need to be something new and exciting. The Concept The concept behind my set of my designs was to create a series of cards based around nature and sustainability. The cards will use animals as a form of humour and will be printed onto organic paper to fit the theme.

The Animals The animals were hand drawn from images in a minimalistic style, they were then scanned in and digitally copied. The animals have been kept simple so that the stock they are printed on makes a big impression and the concept of sustainability communicates clearly. The Typeface The typeface for these designs has been hand made using Illustrator. The idea behind it was to make it seem like handwriting which adds a personal touch to the cards.

I wanted to focus on using a sustainable concept as looking after the planet has become a huge issue in recent years and there is currently nothing like this in the market.

The Card The final designs have printed well onto the stock and work well as a set. The best aspect of the card design is the fact that no one card will be the same due to the varied amount of petals and leaves in the paper.

The Stock The stock is a 150 gsm Mulberry paper from Hobby Craft. It is layered with yellow petals and red leaves. The reason behind the choice of stock was its direct link with nature.

The cards are provided with a brown paper envelope. A brown envelope fits better with the concept rather than using a gleaming white one.

The use of a thick stock means the cards will stand alone and they have a lovely texture to them.

The cards are blank inside so that a personal message can be added. The logo for the range has been printed onto the back of the card. Each card comes in its own individual bag with the pricing sticker stuck on to this. The Range There is also matching gift wrap and gift tags within the Nature’s Little Critter’s product range. The gift wrap is a repeated pattern of the critter and the same design is printed onto the gift tag. The gift tag has been printed onto the same 150 gsm Mulberry stock, whilst the gift wrap has been printed on 100 gsm brown parcel paper.
