OUGD301 Module Self Evaluation Design Practice Three Kirsty Hardingham

I have learnt a lot throughout this module which I feel has developed a lot of different skills. The briefs were chosen to help me develop existing skills and build on new ones. I feel as though I have made an effort during this module although at one point I hit a brick wall which I do think has really effected not only the amount of work I have produced but in some cases the quality too, which leaves me very disappointed in myself. The Chocolot brief is the first brief that I started and is my most successful brief in this module. I learnt so much during it and gained a lot of skills. The brief focused on packaging and branding, these are skills I have but wanted to build on. I feel I successfully fulfilled the brief I set myself. For some reason this is the brief I found easiest to produce great design for, I came up with a really good concept and the final solutions were completed to a very high standard. I would be proud to have this work in my portfolio. The Puffin Wind in the Willows brief was another brief that I have done a lot of work on. I am happy with the outcomes I have produced for this brief and it can be seen through the work I have produced. What let me down I this brief was the fact I started it so late due to my creative block. I could have done a lot more for this brief if I had managed my time better and got help from a tutor at an earlier stage. I have still developed skills and learnt a few things from this brief which include paper crafting, illustration skills and creating work for a young target audience. The UK Greetings Card brief which is a 2012/13 YCN Brief is another brief I thoroughly enjoyed doing. It was a last minute decision to do this brief as I gave up two of my initial ones down to the fact I wouldn’t enjoy them as I had first thought. The greetings cards have come out extremely well and I am very proud of them. The brief did only ask for a range of cards but I went on to create gift wrap and gift tags. Again though I have let myself down with the amount of work I have produced, due to me leaving the brief to the last minute. The last brief is the Bacardi YCN Brief, this was also chosen as a last minute brief after discussing my problems with Phil. We thought it would be best for me to change an earlier brief as I wasn’t getting anywhere with it. The outcomes for this brief are terrible and I feel quite ashamed to even hand it in. I have let myself down big time with the quantity and quality of work produced. My time managed has been appalling which really upsets me. In conclusion of this module I feel I have done about average, I am upset and disappointed in myself knowing I could have done so much more. Time is precious and I only clicked onto this two weeks before deadline, not leaving myself enough time to create a substantial body of work. Another important statement for me to make is that my blogging is terrible! There is hardly any design context and the content of my design practice is not properly organised or annotated.

I have always said to myself I will try my hardest and this year is where that statement is most important. I have clearly let myself down.
