LEVEL 05/06 PROGRESS EVALUATION The following form is designed to focus your self-evaluation, personal reflection and design strategy planning for the second year of the course. This should help you to identify necessary areas of interest, working practices, aims and ambitions when planning your return in September. More importantly it should help you identify specific issues that you need to address, skills you intend to develop and creative/professional aspects of design practice that are relevant to you as an individual.
As this is form focuses on you as an individual you may find you need to add certain criteria, skills or areas that are relevant to you and your aims. There are spaces left for you to add content. Your evaluation will form the basis of discussion during your first tutorial in the second year. Your response to this task should be posted to your PPP blog and labelled ‘PROGRESS EVALUATION 05/06’

Build a portfolio with a range of outcomes produced. For example design for print and design for web. I will identify briefs that will allow me to develop skills and produce professional finished pieces.

Build up a knowledge and skill set in screen printing. I want to do this because I feel it is something I haven’t really experimented with through the first two years.

I want to sell some of my work, whether that Is through Etsy or other means. I want to see if my work would make it and also it is a way of promotion.

Develop my analytical skills. I think this will help a lot when evaluating my work and the work of others. I think a good way to achieve this would be to talk with tutors and my peers to gain feedback on my own writing. Have a phone book full of designers and studios to keep in contact with throughout third year and to contact once I graduate. This can be done by contacting as many as I can and want in the early stages of the year. Develop my software skills, including Illustrator, InDesign and After Effects. I would say I am fairly competent at using them but it would be useful to learn some new things that would help improve my work or approach to design for print and web. I will do this by attending workshops or asking for help. I would really like to arrange a placement with a studio. This will have to be done by getting my foot in the door with a studio, talk to them and make friends.

Design all my own promotional material, things that I am 100% happy with for the end of year show. I have designed business cards but I am no longer happy with them.

I would like to either create my own website with my third year work on it or design it and collaborate with someone to make it. This is important for my online presence.

Have a well written dissertation that I am happy with and that is good quality.
