Global Automotive Flywheel Market : Trends, outlook and Opportunity Analysis 2025

Automotive flywheels are rotating mechanical devices made of steel or carbon fiber that store rotational energy. Flywheel rotation rate is few thousand RPM (Rotations per Minute). Flywheels supply energy as per vehicle requirement. They are positioned between the internal combustion engine and clutch system in a vehicle and are attached to a crankshaft. Crankshafts are attached to the pistons which move to and fro inside a cylinder. Flywheels are not visible from outside. A four-stroke engine consists of four stages: intake, compression, power, and exhaust. When no flywheel is present in an automotive engine, it does not produce any torque or rotational motion during the intake, compression, and exhaust stage. High torque or rotational motion is only developed during the power stage. Due to the high torque developed in the power stage, passengers inside a vehicle feel a jerk. When a flywheel is present and attached to the crankshaft, all four stages have comparatively same level of torque or rotating power. Thus, no jerk is felt by passengers inside a vehicle. By vehicle type, the automotive flywheels market is classified into passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, and heavy commercial vehicles. The market share of passenger vehicles is more than commercial vehicles except in North America.
