Our Commissioning Work
Ensuring High Performing Buildings & Systems
From aging infrastructure to new construction. The Kitchen & Associates (K&A) Commissioning Team of building systems and energy experts offers our clients decades of real-world, practical experience in the commissioning of new buildings, as well as the retro-commissioning of existing ones.
Understanding the Makeup of a Building's MEP Systems. At the heart of our commissioning philosophy is the establishment of a planned, collaborative, and systematic approach to the programmatic design, specification, review, and testing of all building systems and sub-systems. Our approach ensures that the expectations of the building owners and end-users are met and the building functions as designed.
The commissioning process begins in the design phase. For new construction, K&A's commissioning agents are involved from a project's initial conceptual design phase, providing a comprehensive, intensive, and holistic quality assurance program.
Commissioning doesn't stop after design. As the design and development of a project evolves, we are constantly assessing the installation and functionality of the building systems to ensure peak performance. From the Owner's Project Requirements through completed construction, owner acceptance and final occupancy, the commissioning process continues through all phases of a building's life cycle.
Proper systems operation and a knowledgable staff. Our commissioning process assures that the building systems operate as designed, and that the building staff tasked with overseeing those systems are properly trained to operate and maintain all systems at their maximum energy efficiency and maintainability.
A prescription aimed at long-term building health. Ultimately, the continuous commissioning process is a prescriptive maintenance program for any given facility. Our methodology diligently follows and tracks a building's systems throughout the extent of its useful life—a life that can be extended indefinitely with the right commissioning program.
LEED: Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning. Our LEED-accredited professionals provide the knowledge and experience necessary to fulfill fundamental commissioning requirements or maximize a building's potential with enhanced monitor-based commissioning and envelope commissioning. Our enhanced commissioning capabilities can add up to six points to a client's final LEED score.
Allowing client's assets a future of successes. A broad range of retro-commissioning services is required in conjunction with the evaluation, rehabilitation, modernization, and adaptive reuse of existing buildings. The tangible benefits of our firm's integrated approach are highly successful projects offering increased reliability, high functionality, and cost-effective operation and maintenance into the long-term future.
The ultimate goals of our commissioning program. The goals of both Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning are essentially the same—to ensure that the Owner’s Project Requirements are met; that building occupants have a safe, comfortable, and healthy interior environment; that building systems are working efficiently and as intended; and the facilities maintenance team is well-trained on the operation and maintenance of the building.
