The have a direct impact on the people w h o u s e t h e m , whether they are patients,visitors,or medical staff. H o s p i t a l s a l w ays give people a feeling of “sick n e s s ” . S c a r y, boring, and strangely smelled ….. are c o m m o n i m p r e ssions for hospitals. I n r e a l i t y, e n v i ronmental and social factors are as i m p o r t a n t a s t he health ser vice itself in hospital. Ni c e h e a l i n g e nvironments together with social act i v i t i e s a r e p r o ved to improve the healing process. T h e r e v o l u t i o n of hospital architecture is a trend in the 21th century .

Proposal

The n e w p r o p o s e d h e a r t c l i n i c i s s i t u a t e d i n the hilly area t o t h e s o u t h o f t h e o l d H u ddi n g e h o s p i t a l . C on c e p t

T h e new hear t clinic is divided into two main par ts – t h e Out Patient Depar tment and Night Patient Depar tment . T h e t wo par ts are connected by the central circulation hall w a y, a space with a ceiling height of 30metres and the incorp o r a tion of the original landscape in the area, the glass wall o n b oth sides allows sufficient sunlight penetration into the a r e a . Inside this circulation hallway, there are shops scat t e r e d along the whole space, an ar t galler y and a small librar y f o r t he patients and visitor. The space is designed in order to c h a n ge the definition of old hospital, as being a horrif ying, l a c k of natural sunlight and lifeless atmosphere.

Welcoming 30m high hallway with urban devices scattering around. Esculators and elevators bring vistors to different levels. Visitors are also encouraged to exercise by walking up the indoor landscape.

OUT PATIENT The Outpatient Department are devided into four zones: outpatient zones include various functions including day patient examination rooms, health service rooms, doctor-nurse offices and their meeting rooms.

Shops, library and gallery scatters around the central hallway, with the incorporation of original landscape for patients and visitors to exercise on.

B Spatial arrangement in outpatient department Width of the building is 20m to provide better daylighting. Ending of every wing is panoramic sitting out area for refreshing/gathering. The transparency of the end of corridors bring more delightful environment. Rooms are placed at both sides, services boxes are placed in the middle to be easily accessed.

NIGHT PATIENT

The second part of the heart clinic is the night patient areas, which are wards for patients who need to stay for a much longer time. The heart clinic have 10 double rooms and 10 single rooms, which allows the total number of patient staying at one time 30. The three levels above the heart clinic wards are all single rooms, with an extra 72 rooms for further expansion. All of the room in the new heart clinic have their own balcony, which allow patients to have closer connection to the surrounding landscape, and have the choice of being indoor or outdoor as they wish. The research labs are also closely placed at the first level of the heart clinic allowing a good connection between wards and research activities.
