Te Puke High School is a friendly, future-focused school which aims to provide quality learning experiences for all students. Students are placed at the heart of our school. Our highly professional, dedicated staff strive to form strong, positive learning partnerships with each and every student. Within a supportive learning environment our students are challenged to reach their potential and become life-long learners. Te Puke High School is fast becoming known as a school that uses modern innovative technology to enhance learning. Education is an important asset for every young person’s future in an ever-changing world. Students of Te Puke High School are expected to take responsibility for their learning and aim for excellence in everything they do. Te Puke High School • Te Puke High School is a friendly future-focused, co-educational community school. • There are approximately 1,000 students aged from 13 years to 18 years of age. • Classes are from Year 9 to Year 13 and an academic programme is offered to suit the individual needs of the student. • Te Puke High School has a small number of students from around the world and they receive personalised care. • The very important Core Values of Te Puke High School are Respect, Responsibility, Relationships and Reaching Potential. • A full range of subjects are offered, including Drama, Art, Music, Languages, ESOL and Outdoor Education.

Fun activities are arranged for international students each term by the Director of International Students to help promote international friendships and to add to their experiences.

Director of international Students • The Director of International Students interacts daily with the students and monitors their well-being and academic programme. • She provides on-going support for students to ensure that they are coping with life in New Zealand and at school. • The Director maintains regular contact with agents, parents and homestays.

• English language support is available to all international students if necessary. • These small classes cater for all levels of English. • Support and preparation for the IELTS’ examination can be provided if required.

Orientation • International Students participate in an Orientation Programme on their arrival.

Accommodation Co-ordinator

• This programme provides information to help international students learn more about life in New Zealand, the school system and living with their homestay.

• She carefully selects friendly, active, warm and caring homestays for international students to have a real Kiwi experience.

• The Careers Department will help create an individual academic programme to best suit the student’s needs.

• She provides a wide range of homestay options, including farm stays, kiwifruit orchards, in town or near the beach.

• The Accommodation Co-ordinator inspects, interviews and police-vets all new homestay families and meets regularly with them when they are hosting an international student.


All our homestays provide our international students with: • 3 meals a day, including school lunch • A separate bedroom which is fully furnished • Accommodation for the student’s entire stay including the school holidays • A welcoming, supportive and caring environment • A real Kiwi experience

Code of Conduct

Code Of Practice Te Puke High School is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Copies of the Code are available on request from Te Puke High School or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website in a variety of languages at: www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international

New Zealand Immigration New Zealand Immigration Service is responsible for the issue of all visas for travel to New Zealand. Full details of visa requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service and can be viewed at http://www.immigration.govt.nz

Insurance International students must have current and comprehensive medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. It is strongly recommended that the insurance covers travel to and from New Zealand as well as covering the student’s personal belongings. Travel and medical insurance for a year is approximately NZ $450 (luggage covered in transit only) or NZ $615 for full coverage. Te Puke High School is required to sight and approve all types of student insurance. An English translation of any overseas insurance policy is compulsory.
