Student Services, Maori Liaison and Access Aoraki Student Services Students who enrol at Aoraki Polytechnic pay a Student Service Levy as part of their compulsory fees. This fee varies and is based on the length of your programme. The fee contributes to the cost of a range of student services at each campus including:

Maori Liaison Aoraki Polytechnic has a Maori Liaison Officer who supports Maori students at each campus and acts as a key link to local marae and the wider Maori community. Students of Maori descent are welcome to seek information on grants, scholarships and study support. A mentoring programme is available for Maori students. The Maori Liaison Officer is available to discuss study or cultural issues pertaining to Maori.

Gaining credit for previous study and experience If you have completed relevant work experience and/or have completed a previous programme you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL can save you time by giving you credit for learning you have already undertaken, and speeding your progress towards the qualification you want.
You may also view the facilities and discuss the programme in more detail. You are welcome to bring family or whanau support. If all criteria are met we’ll send you a letter of acceptance offering you a place on the programme.

Offered to students in their second year of study, the selected students live with a French family and study for two weeks at Notre Dame du Roc Culinary Institute, followed by two weeks of work in top hotels.

10 things you may not know about Aoraki… 1. Every year two hospitality students receive a scholarship to study in France for six weeks. 2. Many of Aoraki’s qualifications credit towards a degree, enabling you to get started on your degree without having to leave home. 3. Our journalism programme is the only one in the South Island to be endorsed by Fairfax, they even offer a scholarship to do our course. 4. In order to give students from our region access to all programmes offered at our Timaru campus, Aoraki runs a daily return bus service for students from Ashburton and Oamaru. 5. Many of our qualifications are internationally recognised through ITEC and City and Guilds.

6. Captain of the New Zealand Culinary Team and NZ Culinarian of the Year for 2012, tutors on our cookery programmes and we hosted the 2011 South Island Masterchef auditions on campus! 8. provide an approved school exemption certificate from the Ministry of Education if you are under 16 years of age;

state your iwi affiliation information if you identified as New Zealand Mäori in the ethnicity section;
•
provide accurate information about the last secondary school you attended;
•
provide information regarding your main occupation or activity in New Zealand on 1 October;
•
pay all fees before the commencement of the programme;
•
comply with all relevant Aoraki Polytechnic policies and procedures.
