27 INTERIOR DESIGN Learning to think, debate, explore and constantly push boundaries in design are recurring themes in this major. You will learn the theory of design and become absorbed in creating your own building, furniture and interior environment designs. CULTURAL DESIGN This major introduces a strong and valuable Maori component to the programme to develop your understanding of concepts as expressed in Te Reo Maori (Maori language) and your understanding of the morals, ethics and spiritual values of Iwi and Hapu. This degree is a nationally-led qualification, developed in a partnership comprising six of the largest Institutes of Technology in New Zealand. This qualification forms the basis for a career as an Engineering Technologist – an area in huge demand across New Zealand and around the world. WHAT IF I DON’T MEET THE ENTRY CRITERIA? Most of our programmes have special admission options. This means if you are over 20 years old and a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident (and do not meet the academic entry requirements) you may apply to WelTec for entry into a programme. It is our aim to get you where you want to be. We can discuss your needs with you and help you develop a personal education plan (PEP) to get you there. Many of our programmes are designed to allow ‘staircasing’ into higher-level programmes. This means that you can start with a certificate or diploma level programme and move into a diploma or degree.
