THE SALVATION ARMY
DECEMBER 2016
South & Mid Wales Division Introducing the divisional Headquarters Team
FIT FOR MISSION PUTS FOCUS ON LOCAL MISSION DME ROLE: SUPPORTING, LEARNING, RESOURCING, TRAINING Ephesians chapter 4 tells us that mission enabling and delivery is the calling and role of leaders in the local church. To support this local ministry in our territory, each division will have two Divisional Mission Enablers (DMEs) trained to work alongside corps, centres and every expression of mission. DMEs will journey with leaders, providing whatever support is required in a shared conversation about their ministry in action. With an average of 32 corps per division, DMEs will have the time and space to develop close collaborative relationships with local leaders. 1
Rather than enforcing a one-size-fits-all set of rules, mission enablers will help leaders to discover practical insights about what works and what doesn’t in delivering transformational mission in their local settings. As front line communities have different needs, DMEs will spend most of their time visiting and working where their support is most needed. In some places the support offered will be more intensive, while in others the requirement may be to offer prayer support or endorsement. DMEs will not be responsible for delivering mission but will help local settings to develop a tailored approach to mission. This will be captured in a Mission Development Plan, which is aligned to the Transformational Mission (TIDE) strategic framework.

DIVISIONAL LEADER FOR LEADER DEVELOPMENT (DLLD)
DIVISIONAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGER (DRM)
Lieutenant Colonel Karin Ramos
Kate Burke
My name is Karin Ramos and I'm married to Joao Paulo (JP) and we have 3 children. I have been an officer for 26 years and worked as corps officer, Manager for day-care centres, senior homes, in Administration at IHQ and served in Portugal, Sweden and UK Territory.
I am married and a mum of two small boys Maxwell age 5 and Harry age 3. I have worked for the Salvation Army for 10 years, within various management roles for Homelessness S e r v i c e s . Wo r k i n g with some of the most marginalised individuals in our society was challenging but extremely rewarding and humbling. I am passionate about equal opportunities and interested in making the communities in which we live and serve, a safer and better place for everyone.
In my role as DLLD, I will continue to visit corps and officers together with JP as we have been doing before. I am also responsible for the Officers Development reviews, 5 year reviews, Spiritual Leadership Development, Appointments process, and candidates process. I oversee the development of the Territorial Envoys and I have a supporting role in the oversight of the Lieutenants training (into officership,) retired officers, the officer's children and the Silver Star fellowship.
The key focus of the new role Divisional Relationship Manager is to ensure smooth functioning of the DHQ, act as office manager and maintain the relationship between DHQ and the relevant service centre and central services. This will be to ensure that division receives the high standards of service agreed in the Service Partnership Agreements. Over the next few months, I am looking forward to visiting Corps and services throughout the division to meet everyone face to face, learn more about your community programmes and offering support and advice where I can.

DIVISIONAL MISSION ENABLER (DME) Major Beth Maddern
This is a new role within the Salvation Army structure which provides us with the privilege of coming alongside Centre Managers/Corps Officers/Chaplains focussing, encouraging and supporting Mission in Centres and Corps. I have been a Salvation Army Officer for 29 years and I’m grateful to God for His faithfulness, love, and grace towards me. For the past 4 years, we have lived in Coventry and I’ve been Chaplain in Older Peoples Services and the Homelessness Services Unit, we have been Divisional Youth Officers as well as Corps Officers. My various appointments have hopefully given me a helpful insight and understanding of different ministry contexts. I am married to Adrian and have two daughters, Sheonagh lives in Coventry and Emma is at Warwick University. I enjoy walking and I’ve also started to research my family ancestry and have discovered that although I come from Northern Ireland, my great grandparents originally came from Penarth (I should have guessed – my maiden name was Thomas). We are delighted to be in South & Mid Wales Division and look forward to meeting you and pleased to be of service to you.
DIVISIONAL MISSION ENABLER (DME) Major Adrian Maddern
I am married to Beth and we have two lovely daughters. Although I have had the privilege of serving as a Divisional Youth Officer and more recently as a Learning & Development Officer, most of our ministry has been as corps officers. I have had the privilege of studying towards various qualifications as an officer, having gained qualifications in Mission, Management and Counselling. Beth and I are really excited and inspired by this new role and look forward to working with mission possibilities in the South & Mid Wales Division. When I have some spare time I like to listen to classical music (usually out walking our dog) and to spend time reading. I have also enjoyed the recent successes of my team, Leicester City, doing my best to keep the faith for this season!

G e o rg e M a r t i n
Anna Humphries
I am a husband to Kerrie and a dad to Maggie. I love virtually all sports and try and play/do as many as I can. I am also a part-time tennis umpire and have umpired at all 4 Grand Slams & the ATP World Tour Finals.
My parents moved to Cardiff when I was only eighteen months old and I have lived here ever since. I have an older brother Jeremy who also lives in Cardiff and an older sister Judith who has settled in Sydney, Australia. I have been working for The Salvation Army at South and Mid Wales DHQ for 19 years and I hope that it will be many more.
I've been part of The Salvation Army in SMW from birth & have always been involved in children & youth work at various Corps, youth clubs and divisional/territorial camps. I have been volunteer youth leader at Abergavenny since 2010 & became DYO in 2013. As DYS I am here to support and encourage youth work at local level, provide training opportunities for leaders as well as be a sounding board for any new ideas. I will continue organising divisional events giving regular opportunities for young people to build relationships with each other and with God.
Previously I was the secretary to the Evangelism / Programme Team at DHQ. Now I am the Divisional Administrative Support and my job is – yes, you’ve guessed it – to provide administrative support. I live in splendid isolation (apart from the spiders) in a small one bedroom house in Fairwater, Cardiff. I attend Bethel Presbyterian Church in Michaelston Road, Ely, Cardiff, and share piano playing duties with one other person there. I like cats, classical music, quizzes, creepy crawlies, lie-ins and anything to eat beginning with the letter C (i.e. chips, crisps, cakes, cookies and CHOCOLATE!!!).
If you need me I’m always at the end of the phone & please invite me to your youth events.
