Local Pharmacy Stirs Excitement ! with $3.99 Prescription Club!
!
August 3, 2014 marks the 9th month since Liberty Family Pharmacy 9 Food Drive! opened its doors in Liberty. We decided to catch up with Don Haslam, 10 Taco Supper! the pharmacy manager, and ask how everything is going since opening in December and what are the store’s plans for the future? We were 10-12 Revival! surprised at the response we got. “We opened our doors December 3, 16 Museum Open! 2013. From that first month, our prescription count has more than 16 Auction! quadrupled. Every month our prescription volume and front store sales 16 Yard Sale! have grown exponentially. We don’t say this with arrogant pride, but with humble appreciation. We were happy but surprised to see the 16 Hot Dog Lunch! customers flock to us. We have also been surprised at the diversity of 16 School Supply ! the business we have picked up. We have the traditional, commercially Drive! insured patients that every pharmacy expects, but our non-insured prescription business has really taken off. We have even picked up 16 Ribbon Cutting! quite a few group homes and home-bound patients who appreciate the Tropica Tanning! free, local, same day delivery that we offer. Our compounding 16 Ramseur Summer ! business is beginning to show growth as well. We have begun making customized medicines for female hormone replacement as well as for Concert! treatment of fibromyalgia. Most important to our success so far is our 17-21 VBS! service. Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe that the individuals that 21 Liberty Block Party! work in corporate pharmacies care for their customers like we do ours, 23 Billy Joe Royal ! but I believe that being independent from the multi-chain and “Wall Street” culture lets us make decisions that put Liberty and surrounding Music! 23 Debbies Customer! residents first. I don’t care what Wall Street thinks”, said Don. ! Apprec. Day! When asked why he thinks the non-insured prescription business has done so well, Don responded, “Walmart started its famous $4 22-23 Downtown prescription program in 2006. Some pharmacies followed with there Liberty School Kick own plan, others did not. We have our own prescription discount club. Off Chance To Win $$! The individual must apply for it in the store to be enrolled and to 30 Dance Open House! benefit from the plan’s prices (see details in our add in this edition). We have many of the same medications offered by Walmart on our 31 LAC 5th Sunday! list. The main difference is we do it for less, $3.99 for a 30 day supply Gospel Singing! and $9.99 for a 90 day supply where Walmart does $4 and $10

respectively. Our drug lists aren’t identical, but similar. No two pharmacy’s lists are identical. Where people save the most money is when the medicine isn’t on either’s $4 list. For example, Walmart sells 30 clopidogrel (generic Plavix™), a blood clot prevention medicine and 30 atorvastatin (generic Lipitor™), a cholsterol reducing medicine, for $30 each; $60 per month if you are on both. Using our prescription discount club, the same medications can be purchased for around $16 and $18 respectively. If you are on both medicines and use our discount club plan, it will cost you $34 per month versus $60 per month with Walmart. In annual savings, that’s over $300 per year for just 2 medications.” If you or a family member are on several medications like these, the savings could be well over $1,000 per year!”!

Ramseur Civitan Club Celebrates 4 Years! The Ramseur Area Civitan Club celebrated its 4th anniversary on July 27. The group gathered together on July 15 to celebrate with a picnic and seek meeting, all rolled into one. For the anniversary, each Civitan member brought a gift that represented the many charity activities the club does in the Ramseur area. A reflective vest represented the Adopt-A-Highway program. The club has done this for almost a year, cleaning up the stretch of road that runs past the church where meetings are held. Socks represented the gifts given to the men at a local men’s home. The club hosts a cook-out and Christmas party for the men each year. Canned vegetables represent the many food items contributed to the Ramseur Food Pantry, an ongoing project for the club. They have held one Fill the Truck food drive as well, with another scheduled for August 9. This approach was fun for the group and the guests. Amanda Hancock, club builder, spoke on how impressed she was with the birthday gift idea and the success of the club. It was a proud club builder moment. There were 12 members and 10 guests in attendance. The Seek meeting allowed the club to grow as Jody Walker officially joined the Ramseur Area Civitan - a great achievement for the group.

Annual Tour Of Tables At Mt Pleasant Baptist Church! Wow is all I can say. Each year is a whole new look and presentation of tables. This area truly is blessed with some talented people. Sat Aug 2 was the annual tour of tables at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Liberty. Friday night all the decorators descended on the fellowship hall to transform the blank tables to artwork. On Sat from 2 to 3:30 the community could come and walk for FREE to see all the tables and designs. Later that night each seat was sold for a sit down meal. The meal consisted of bacon wrapped filets or grilled chicken, green beans, salad, your choice of potato and awesome yeast rolls. The finally was the homemade pound cakes with strawberries and cool whip. This night would not be possible with out the work of the following people: everyone that decorated the tables, Faye Jones for the floral decorations and other decorative touches, their excellent cooks (Larry Hicks and Ronald Williams), the great servers (Austin Baker, Emily Collins, Coby Kivett, Morgan Langley, Shaun Maness, Annie Smith, Dalton Staley, Bryson Staley, Nicolas Swaim, Tea Turner, Cole Walker, and Lucy Williams). The Mt Pleasant Tour of Tables is a project of the churches Mission Action Group. All monies raised from this event are used to help fund their mission projects throughout the year. Donation were also collected. This years table theme and decorators were: Gods Creatures/ Youlanda Moore, Garden Party / Emma & Raleigh Brady, Fruits of the Farm / Elsie Hicks, Angels Among Us / Sue Garner, Duck Commander / Rhonda Williams, Proud To Be An American / Julie Brady, Fall Splendor / Kelly Langley, His Glory & Majesty / Kelly Langley, Softball.. The Yellow Threaded Gift / Haley Langley, Spring / Faye Jones, Summer / Hazel Kimrey, Fall / Sheliah Stout, Winter / Margie Kirkman, Jesus Light of the World / Sylvia Hicks, The Birth of Jesus / Midge Vickery and Patriotic / Mary Campbell- Shelby Bowman and Kevin Bowman.

Helen Turner Dining Hall!
!
Story by Pastor Gary Moger!
The summer months always bring a long list of after school projects, all designed to improve and enhance the students’ school environment. The primary focus of this summer is the freshly donated dining hall. The leadership has decided to call this building the Helen Turner Dining Hall, ..named after our long-time office manager who went to be with the Lord in January 2013. The tricky part about this project is that we cannot afford to pay for the building setup out of the general budget; we will have to! raise every penny through donations. When the building came, we initially put out an email and were able to raise about $5,000 – enough money to pay for moving the building. The next hurdle to cross involved a new Randolph County rule that would not allow buildings to be placed on land! that has two deeds. This has now been resolved. Our next move is to raise the money to finish the setup. We have broken the project down into smaller components. Here are the components and the money needed (approximate figures):! Digging and pouring the foundation footers - $2,000! Bricks and labor for the foundation - $2,500! Electrical rewiring and service setup - $4,500! Heat and AC Heat Pump - $6,000! Sidewalk and ramp - $900! New metal roof - $1,200! Flooring - $1,600! Paint - $300! To us, this looks like an impossible amount, but to God it is very, very possible. All we know to do is ask the Lord to provide the funds, which He always has. So we are letting our families and friends know about this need and asking for your prayers and possible donations. If everyone gave a little, this need would be met, and the students could be eating their lunches in the beautiful new Helen Turner Dining Hall. Donations may be made with credit or debit card through Faith’s website (School > About Us > Financial Support – Click on“Donate” under ATAP Donations) or by check or cash through the mail: FCS – Dining Hall, 5449 Brookhaven Rd., Ramseur, NC 27316

THE HANGOUT OF SILER CITY! Story by Teresa Graves! Photos by Hillary Graves ! ! It all started with three little words, “Let's go hangout”. It all began at SONIC in Siler City on a Wednesday night after church. It grew to a weekly event, but after church was not enough time for these high school and college aged friends to hangout, so it was moved to Thursday nights at a home with a big front yard and a volleyball net. The numbers grew, and the fun was great, but there was a desire to add a devotional time to each night. Everyone would crowd into the home with the big front yard for snacks and a taste of The Word. The numbers continued to grow until there was no space (including floor area) to sit another person. So the adult leaders prayed and met and prayed some more about where to go from there.! ! They prayed for God to supply a larger meeting place for this growing group to hangout. They prayed for a businessman in Siler City to have a heart for youth and young adults to supply that place. They prayed for God to provide financially and also fill that place with all the physical needs of a hangout spot. Their prayers were answered above and beyond their dreams and expectations.! ! The building that God led them to on MAIN STREET in downtown Siler City was owned by a gentleman who allowed them to paint, change anything inside, and as a bonus he offered to supply the paint and needed supplies! So the stark white interior took on amazing colors! MANY of the youth and young adults joined the leaders in transforming the building into its current “coolness”! One leader designed the great logo and motto of The Hangout, “He Hung For You So You Could Live Out For Him” bringing the whole story and purpose of The Hangout together. It is painted larger than life on the front window.! ! The leaders set up a facebook page (The Hangout of Siler City) and began to post pictures of the progress, and added a “wish list” of items needed. The donations began to pour in, from furniture to a refrigerator and microwave to a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey table...well you get the idea. Once again that promise from God's Word to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask or think gripped the leaders' hearts.! ! Then after much prayer and hard work, God allowed the doors to open to any HIGH SCHOOL and COLLEGE AGED students on Thursday night, November 29, 2012 at 6:30pm. They have been open every Thursday night since, unless weather hindered us. We have an amazing Worship Band that God continues to add to, and also started a Drama Team. These groups travel to area churches and youth activities as an outreach ministry of The Hangout. We are

The Liberty Leader Newspaper continually uncovering hidden talents within this group of young adults that come to The Hangout!! ! So what is a night at The Hangout typically like you ask? We start at 6:30pm with free time to literally hang out. Sometimes the game tables are full and corn hole has just fired up a healthy competition on the sidewalk. Often this time is just filled with talking and laughter. We have snacks out and coffee brewing each week during this time as well. At 7pm we gather in the front room for thirty minutes of announcements, prayer and amazing Worship Music! From 7:30-8pm is our Bible Study/Lesson and from 8pm until 8:30 (which usually turns into 9-9:30 in the summertime) there is more free time and snack time.! ! What is The Hangout all about then, its “mission” if you will? We are all about a place for youth and young adults to come together with people their ages to figure out life, grow as Jesus Followers, discover and use their talents, and have a safe environment to do all this well. We offer participation in several service projects, following the teaching of Christ to GO and spread the gospel...our upcoming project kicks off on July 31 as we participate in Operation Christmas Child and plan to volunteer at the Charlotte Processing Center. Our Hangout Worship Band likes to GO and is leading worship Aug. 4-8 at Reverb '14 Youth Camp at Quaker Lake, an upcoming Youth Rally in Siler City, and Goldston Old Fashion Day in October. Our Drama Team will join them for a Sunday Service at a church in Liberty, and we love getting the gospel message out to the community through music and drama! Our band has provided Christmas music the past two years at The Siler City Christmas Parade. So you see, we have many opportunities for young adults to serve!! ! Bottom line, there is no reason for boredom in your Summer, or for that matter your life if you are a high school or college aged young adult. There is a place for you and you are always welcomed to bring friends or make new friends at The Hangout! We are located at 120 North Chatham Avenue, Siler City (beside Carter Bank) and are currently open each Thursday night from 6:30-8:30pm. We will soon be announcing a BACK TO SCHOOL welcome night to rising 9th Graders. For more info please visit our fb page (The Hangout of Siler City) or follow us on Instagram (@thehangoutofsc) to see what's going on. If you would like more info on having our Worship Band or Drama Team minister at your church or event, please call Teresa Graves @ 919-742-7415 and leave a message, or message us on our facebook page.!

Free Throat Cancer Screenings offered at! Randolph Ear, Nose & Throat Associates!
Liberty Showcase Back Open!
ASHEBORO – According to the American Cancer Society, 13,930 new cases of throat cancer were diagnosed in 2013. Laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers are commonly referred to as throat cancers. Often these cancers develop because of prolonged alcohol or tobacco use, a poor diet, HPV, a weakened immune system, heartburn, genetic syndromes and/or work hazards. On Thursday, September 11th, a free throat cancer screening will be conducted from 3 – 6 p.m. at Randolph Ear, Nose & Throat Associates located at 124 N. Park Street. This free screening is open to adults who have had not had a screening in the past two years and who have smoked, currently smoke or use tobacco products. These screenings will be conducted by Drs. Charles West and Brandon Ma. According to the American Cancer Society, common symptoms associated with throat cancer include: hoarseness, sore throat that doesn't go away, constant coughing, pain when swallowing, trouble swallowing, ear pain that doesn't go away, trouble breathing, weight loss and/or lump or mass in the neck. ! “The best way to beat throat cancer is by prevention and early detection,” said Dr. West. The American Cancer Society notes, 80 percent of people who develop throat cancer use tobacco products, and another 70 percent are frequent drinkers. “In many cases, the primary culprit of throat cancer is smokeless tobacco,” added Dr. West. “It’s very important to see your doctor immediately if you have any abnormal growths or patches in your mouth or throat.” If you or someone you know is at risk for throat cancer, this screening is imperative. Space is limited and appointments are required as space is limited. This is one of Randolph Cancer Center’s community education events that is offered throughout the year on a variety of health-related topics. For more information, please call the Community Events Desk at Randolph
