Local Teen Travels to Kentucky for livestock event Austin traveled to Louisville, KY to participate in the North American International Livestock Exposition. It is the largest all-breed livestock event in the nation. Participants from multiple states compete here. Austin’s jersey heifer placed 3rd of 28 in the junior fall heifer class and 9th of 47 in the open fall heifer class. Congratulations Austin!

There is Good News By: Andy Clapp The evening news paints a bleak future, not only about today but also tomorrow. Stories of wars, sickness, crime, drugs, and sheer hopelessness throughout the world, leaving us to wonder why we even get out of the bed, why do we seek to put forth the effort. Politics seem to be the driving force of every decision each day and as we look at reality, the bleakest picture is what is most often seen. Pain. Suffering. Darkness. Chaos. Such was the world before now. As God had spoken through the prophets, the words spoke a truth to a world mired in the same circumstances and in the same condition as our world today. The message – My Son is coming. Isaiah spoke to the One who would come, prophesying that Immanuel would be sent, would willingly step out of the perfection of heaven to walk upon the broken earth enshrouded in darkness and decaying with each passing day. God with us. Micah told that Bethlehem would be the place. A census ordered ensured the place at the precise moment. And He came. As the shepherds carried about a normal night, possibly pondering the same questions as we ponder today, they received a message that changed everything. The angel spoke, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.” (Luke 2:10-11 HCSB) Though the tragic was all around, there was a reason to have hope from that moment forward. There was news to share that uplifted, news that could instill eternity into the hearts of humanity focused on the temporary. Jesus had come and the world was forever changed. Today, we forget the story and the message of Christmas. Overwhelmed by the condition of the day and the broken nature of the world, we immerse ourselves more into customs of the season rather than immersing ourselves in the manger, the message, and the meaning. There is good news for us, just as there was good news for the shepherds that night in the field. Not only did Christ come, but as we look at Scripture more closely, we see that the angel instructed the shepherds how to find the Messiah. The angel continued, “This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in cloth and lying in a feeding trough.” (Luke 2:12) There would be no doubt which child was the One they were searching for and there was no question where to find Him. The same holds true today. You can find Him today. There is hope even in the midst of this despair and there is light even in this time of immense darkness. However, He will not be found in the malls or in any store, but rather in the manger. May God bless you and refocus you this Christmas season.

Gifts We Offer Him Christmas is a special time of year, one in which we celebrate by giving gifts to loved ones. We spend time and serious thought trying to pick just the right gift to show we care and desire to bring happiness to our loved one. We go to great lengths to find the best deals on the perfect gifts, some even sacrificing sleep and comfort to be the first in line when the store opens to ensure we get that item on sale. Time, care and effort are spent wrapping the gift beautifully, to increase the excitement the receiver has when the gift is presented. Sometimes we can become consumed with focusing on the gifts we give to others. With so many friends and loved ones to buy or make gifts for, it’s hard not to spend a tremendous amount of time focusing on gifts. We all want our friends, family and children to be pleased with what we give them. Parents desire nothing more than to see an explosion of excitement when their children receive their gifts. It occurred to me this Christmas season that we have shifted our focus from the supernatural gift we have all been given by God with the birth of Christ, our Savior, to the gifts we give each other. As we have all received the best gift that could ever be given, what are we giving back to God? Do we spend the time and effort on offering gifts to Him that we do to others? Do we sacrifice our sleep and comfort to give gifts back to God? Do we truly celebrate the birth of our Savior or the coming of Santa? I recently went to a Christmas Shop that was dedicated to all things Christmas-decorations, Christmas trees, lights, miniature villages, etc. You name it, they had it. In this huge store, probably close to 4,000 square feet, there was only one little corner dedicated to Jesus. It was such a representation of how we celebrate Christmas. It has become all about Santa, snowmen, toy soldiers and GIFTS. We hardly reserve any space for Jesus. We’ve put Him in a tiny little corner of our heart, while the rest of the space is dedicated to the other stuff, the stuff that really doesn’t matter. This Christmas season, I challenge you (and myself) to search your heart for what gifts you can offer to God. If we only spent half the time, dedication and energy on gifts for God as we do on Christmas gifts for others, imagine what the world would be like. But doesn’t He deserve all our time, energy and dedication, considering what He has done for us? What gifts are you giving to Jesus this year, the one who quietly established Christmas all those years ago, the one whose birth defines time, the one who was born to give His life to save yours? The Flags were put out in the
Community to Honor our Veterans taht have gone on before. This is our way to Honor their service to these United States of America involving all Wars. We put out about 500+ flags in Cemertaries in the community which include Fairview in Liberty, Gilmore's in Julian, Macedonia Baptist Church & Hickory Grove. We had two Teams that worked these areas to get the Job done. These Volunteers were from several organization in Liberty. They were as follows: The American Legion Post 81, VFW, Amvets, DAV, Rurtians, and 1st Baptist Church. We were to take up the Flags on Tuesday depending on the weather. Veterans also talked with Liberty Cub Scout Pack 502 at the Liberty Veterans Memorial & Gardens on Tuesday night. We talked about the Veterans and their Service to this great Nation and the reason for the Memorial. Several Scouts and families attended the gathering and walked around the Memorial and enjoyed themselves. Veterans also went the Liberty Library in Wednesday morning & talk with the children about Veterans Day, read a story and shared uniforms, pictures, awards,& stories of service. “ Veterans Still Serving America & Local Communities"

PGHS Student Qualifies for State Championships L i l y B u t l e r, f r e s h m a n a t Providence Grove High School qualified to race in the North Carolina cross country state championships this past Saturday November 3rd. The event was held in Kernersville at the Ivey Redmond state track. There were a total of 145 runners in the state 2A Championship meet. Lily finished the 5K , 3.1 mile track in 21 minutes 28 seconds. this time was good enough for 48th Place. This time represented the 8 fastest track time of all participating freshman runners. Lily is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Chip Butler of Liberty.

The Liberty Chamber did not let a little rain, ruin all of the planning and preparation of the annual Liberty Christmas Parade and tree lighting. Thank you to those who came out rain or shine! The Chamber considers The Celebrate Christmas in Liberty; Parade and Tree Lighting Event a wonderful Christmas gift to the community! Many hours of hard work and organization go into making a successful community event come together smoothly. These folks have already given an amazing gift; they have given of their time and of themselves…. Truly a gift from the heart! As you are spreading your Christmas Cheer, please take time to thank the many people, volunteers and participants that make it possible for the entire community to enjoy a Christmas Parade. RCC offering day classes in Therapeutic Massage Randolph Community College will be offering day classes for the Therapeutic Massage program at the RCC Randleman Center beginning Jan. 7. The class is open to 10 students interested in the day program. Classes are Mondays through Thursdays (some Fridays and Saturdays) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.. RCC’s Therapeutic Massage program prepares students to become licensed massage therapists by providing comprehensive hands-on training with a focus on working in a spa or opening a business. The program prepares students for taking the Massage and Bodywork Licensure Exam (MBLEx). The RCC Randleman Center located at 100 Hilliary Street. RCC Board of Trustees continues mission of Pathways to Prosperity Randolph Community College’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to move forward with the application process for the College’s Agribusiness Technology program with the North Carolina Community College System at Thursday’s meeting in the Martha Luck Comer Conference Center on the Asheboro Campus. Vice President for Administrative Services Daffie Garris gave a report on the renovation of the Welding Lab at the Archdale Center, noting that demolition was under way. “Because of the great success of the Welding program and the need in that industry, we are adding more welding booths so we can train more students,” RCC President Dr. Robert Shackleford Jr. said. Both the Agribusiness Technology program and the Welding program are part of the Pathways to Prosperity — a collaborative effort with RCC, the Randolph County School System, Asheboro City Schools, and local businesses and industries in Randolph County. The Trustees also voted unanimously to support Shackleford’s support of the continued use of the quarter-cent tax referendum funds for the capital needs of RCC.

RCC’s Human Services Club Helps Students at CCC

The Human Services Club at Randolph Community College recently donated much-needed supplies for the hurricane-affected Human Services students at Carteret Community College (CCC). For the past two years, the Club has put together 50 Blessing Bags to take to local agencies and ministries to be distributed to the homeless in Randolph County. This year, Club President Teresa Herring suggested the members help out CCC students. CCC and the residents of Morehead City were devastated by 25 inches of rain from Hurricane Florence. As a result of the massive flooding, the college was closed for three weeks before students could return to campus. “It’s practically impossible to travel within our area without seeing the scars left by the horrific storms,” CCC Program Head for Human Services Kathy Foster said. “Knowing that one of our sister programs cared enough to collect donations for items that were in short supply was heartwarming and encouraging. [The RCC] students’ kindness exemplifies the heart of the field of human services.” Herring emailed Foster to find out what the students needed most, and the RCC Human Services Club members gathered 20 bottles of laundry detergent, 12 bags of feminine products, 528 rolls of toilet paper, 51 bottles of bleach, 236 rolls of paper towels, 16 six-packs of mosquito donuts, two No-Pest strips, and 24 cans of mosquito spray. “I am so proud of the initiative displayed by our Human Services Club president … and by the entire Club,” said Scott Smith, Department Head for Human Services Technology at RCC. RCC, UNCG agreement eases transition for Interior Design students Randolph Community College has signed a 2+2 articulation agreement with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to provide an easier transition for Interior Design students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree. The agreement is applicable to students who complete the required hours for the Associate of Applied Science degree in Interior Design from RCC and transfer to UNCG and major in Interior Architecture. Effective Fall 2019, UNCG’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture requires 120 total hours. RCC Interior Design graduates with 64 semester hours of credit accepted will have no more than 56 hours semester hours of credit remaining for bachelor’s degree completion. Sauvignon Blanc is very food-friendly, particularly when paired with many game day favorites like nachos, guacamole, salsas and chicken with some heat. Those from the Marlborough region of New Zealand, such as Infamous Goose Sauvignon Blanc 2017 (SRP $14.99), are crisp, with bright citrus and cool herbal flavors, and would pair well with the majority of dishes on your table. The reason this wine is such a refreshing selection, is that the Sauvignon Blanc grape is grown in relatively cool climates for a slow ripening period, which intensifies the flavors in the fruit. If you enjoy wings, finding a wine pairing for your feast will be your biggest challenge due to the range of toppings -- from bold-flavored spices to thick, mouth-coating sauces.

An instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone should read 165 degrees F. • After cooking, toss hot wings in lemon butter mixture, coating all sides. Serve immediately.
