Starting over Everybody better open their eyes and realize what's really going on. In three short months, just like He did with the plagues in Egypt, God has taken away everything we worship. God said, "You want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down Civic Centers. You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don't want to go to church and worship Me, I will make it where you can't go to church. "If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." Maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing in this world that matters. Jesus. P.S. If you don't believe in Jesus that's your right. I believe in Jesus with all my heart and soul...if you don't just keep reading on in the paper” " If you believe this, share this with people . AMEN! Believe in Jesus name. AMEN” Saw this on social media and felt let to put in the paper…. Happy New Year from Editor

This was shared on a Covid survivor group...have heard many of these before but it seems helpful:
HOW TO FIGHT COVID AT HOME No one ever talks about how to fight Covid at home. I came down with Covid in November. I went to the hospital, running a fever of 103, a rapid heart beat, and other common symptoms that come with Covid. While I was there they treated me f o r t h e h i g h f e v e r, dehydration and pneumonia. The doctor sent me home to fight Covid with two prescriptions Azithromycin 250mg & Dexamethason 6mg. When the nurse came in to discharge me, I asked her, "What can I do to help fight this at home?" She said, “Sleep on your stomach at all times with Covid. If you can’t sleep on your stomach because of heath issues sleep on your side. Do not lay on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs and that will allow fluid to set in. Set your clock every two hours while sleeping on your stomach, then get out of bed and walk for 15-30 min, no matter how tired or weak that you are. Also move your arms around frequently, it helps to open your lungs. Breathe in thru your nose, and out thru your mouth. This will help build up your lungs, plus help get rid of the Pneumonia or other fluid you may have. When sitting in a recliner, sit up straight - do not lay back in the recliner, again this will smash your lungs. While watching TV - get up and walk during every commercial. Eat at least 1 - 2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado and asparagus. These are good for Potassium. Drink Pedialyte, Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero & Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. Do not drink anything cold - have it at room temperature or warm it up. Water with lemon, and little honey, peppermint tea, apple cider are good suggestions for getting in fluids. No milk products, or pork. Vitamin’s D3, C, B, Zinc, Probiotic One-Day are good ideas. Tylenol for fever. Mucinex, or Mucinex DM for drainage, plus helps the cough. Pepcid helps for cramps in your legs. One baby aspirin everyday can help prevent getting a blood clot, which can occur from low activity. " Drink a smoothie of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea and a spoon or two of peanut butter. We always hear of how Covid takes lives, but there isn't a lot of
information out there regarding how to fight Covid. I hope this helps you or someone you know, just as it has helped me.

One GREAT CHANGE For Better Health 2021 We all want to know the SECRETS of how to be a healthier person! No one source has all the answers, but there are many clues. We want to present a tried and true view of Health and Wellness tracking back over thousands of years. Every aspect of this system has been tested and re-tested many thousands of times, treating real people with real problems. It is a view from Traditional Chinese Medicine. We will be looking at the book: The TAO of Healthy Eating Dietary Wisdom According to Chinese Medicine by Bob Flaws. It is available on Amazon.com. There are many things that contribute to good health. Several are presented in this book. It is complete with lists of foods and supplements and their effects on the body. It is a gem if you are seeking to feed yourself and improve your health. Here we will look at one change that can make all the difference in your health and wellness. A little known fact is that your stomach wants to be at 100 degrees when it is churning the soup that it will send to your intestines for your nourishment. Yes, that is 100 degrees. Anything that you put into your mouth at mealtime must not cause the temperature inside your stomach to become less than 100 degrees. What would that look like? Eat and drink only heated foods and drinks. If you drink an iced drink, or eat a congealed salad or anything else from the refrigerator, then you bring the temperature of all the contents (the soup inside your stomach) down below 100 degrees. Eating raw foods brings the temperature down. The body must then try to provide the heat to digest it. So what can we do to assure the stomach stays at 100 degrees? Eat cooked foods, heated to warm or hot. Sip small amounts of hot water or hot beverages along with your meal. Eat cold, chilled or frozen foods or drinks: ONLY between your meals. What happens when you drink iced drinks with your meal? The digestion of your food must wait for the stomach to try to heat the big slog of cold stuff, sludge. As the stomach tries to heat the sludge, the body sends signals to the brain that feel like hunger. Ever feel like you are hungry too soon after your meal? This could be why. Then we eat from that hunger and add to the lump of slog in our stomach…and on and on it goes! This sludge accumulates in the body gumming up the smooth function of the parts. If the sludge sits in there long enough, it simply rots, which causes the body more work and less health. None of this sounds appetizing, and it is not to your poor stomach. Chew your food well, since your stomach wants to churn the soup that it makes from your meal, into the stuff that your body can use. When you make soup in your kitchen, or get soup at the restaurant, it does not come with huge chunks of stuff in it. Often, it is even totally liquid. So, offer the same courtesy to your stomach by chewing everything into very small bits. Take your time and enjoy your food, and your stomach and body will enjoy improved digestion and vibrant health. Let us look at refrigeration. Think of why our bodies may not enjoy refrigerated things. It is unnatural. People often used ice from rivers, springs and lakes to keep food from spoiling, but it was not often served cold or iced. Then there were ice houses in the 18th century. Later came refrigerated trucks and refrigeration for grocery stores and finally our homes. Our stomachs and our health suffer from this invention, as much as we love it. We have spoiled ourselves and made a habit of enjoying cold and iced foods and beverages. And we have begun to spoil our health in untold ways because of it. Let this one small change be one of your Resolutions in 2021. Happy New Year! Bits’n’Pieces enjoys your company. May you find Health, Happiness and Abundance along with Good Luck in the coming year! Stay safe… bitsnpiecesliberty@gmail.com Send questions or items for sharing!

5 Flu Season Tips to Keep Your Household Healthy (StatePoint) Flu season is here, and amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more important than usual to take steps to avoid getting sick. Here are five top tips to help your household stay healthy: 1. Wash hands regularly: Make sure every member of the household washes their hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time. This is especially important to do after getting home, before preparing food and after using the bathroom. Even with regular hand-washing, it’s still important to avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes. 2. Guard against germs: Cold and flu viruses can survive on household surfaces long enough for germs to spread. However, cleaning surfaces with an effective disinfectant can help put a stop to germ transfer. The good news is that you don’t need harsh chemicals. Inspired by nature, ARM & HAMMER Essentials Disinfecting Wipes, a citrusbased disinfectant, can be used around kids and pets and cleans without harsh chemicals. Safe for use on a range of surfaces, including stainless steel, sealed granite, hardwood, tubs, shower walls, classrooms and gym surfaces, use these wipes to disinfect kitchens, bathrooms, pet areas, non-porous surfaces car interiors and other frequently-touched areas of your home. In the never-ending battle against germs, this is an invaluable tool to have on hand, as the wipes kill 99.9% of viruses (including cold and flu viruses and human coronavirus), 99.9% of bacteria, MRSA, streptococcus, staphylococcus, E. coli, salmonella and klebsiella pneumoniae. To learn more, visit armandhammercleans.com. 3. Load up on veggies: A nutritious diet can help keep you vital during flu season. Pack a range of immunity-boosting vitamins, minerals and antioxidants into just one meal with a hearty stew of potatoes, carrots, green leafy vegetables, broccoli, beans and lentils. To eliminate pesticides, wax and soil from produce, include a vegetable wash in your meal prep routine, which can be more effective than water alone. 4. Supplement your diet: Consider incorporating a dietary supplement into your family’s daily routine that contains vitamin C, zinc and other immunity-boosters. 5. Practice healthy habits: Getting regular exercise, staying hydrated and getting plenty of shut-eye are all proven ways to protect your health. Be sure to practice these healthy habits. As COVID-19 continues to place substantial demands on hospitals and healthcare resources, staying healthy and protected against the flu is especially vital. Take steps to boost your immunity and stop the spread of germs.

A Little Liberty History This is where Shadow Box is located today in the photo above, in Downtown Liberty on W. Swannanoa Ave. Below is a photo posted by Don Herndon and shows it as a bustling department store where shoes, shirts, dresses and accessories could be purchased.
Staley Fire Department Fireman Of The Year Every year our department votes for a member to receive the fireman of the year award. Usually this award would be presented at our department’s Christmas supper in December, but thanks to Covid we had to do things a little different this year. Congratulations to Staley Fire Department’s fireman of the year for 2020, Chase Beard.
Comments By James Brower:1957: This has been posted before, but I really like this pic of my Aunt Kathryn (center) in the clothing store (B. M. Brower & Sons). Ila Kirkman Allred is on her left, and Brenda Pike Shelton is on her right. Lots of LHS'ers clerked in the store over the years. Kathryn and Charlie taught us to make change like people don't do any more.....counting it backwards to the customers until the correct change was in their hands. That is a lost art nowadays.
Resolve to Learn to Play an Instrument in the New Year
stream concert for your friends over social media. Always having a new goal to reach toward can keep things fresh, helping you stick with your New Year’s resolution.
(StatePoint) Have you been wanting to learn to play an instrument for a long time? Let the New Year be your motivation to finally take the plunge. Here are some top tips for getting started and for sticking with it:
• Be compassionate with yourself: Learning to play an instrument is not easy, and some practice sessions will go more smoothly than others. Have patience with your own progress and try not to compare yourself to others, especially those who have been playing a lot longer than you!
• Schedule practice sessions: Learning to play an instrument requires a time commitment, so actually schedule a daily practice session -- at least 30 minutes -- in your planner or calendar. Whether it’s first thing in the morning or just before bed, identify a time of day when you are best able to turn off distractions and focus on the task at hand.
Building your music skills is not only fun, it’s good for your mental and physical wellness, making it the perfect New Year’s resolution. Be sure to get started with the right mindset and tools.
• Check out online resources: While in-person lessons may not be available at the current moment, you might try taking a remote class or working with an online music teacher. Free tutorials are also available online, and have the added benefit of being paused or replayed again and again. • Stay motivated: When learning a new skill, fast progress can be one of the greatest motivators. Thankfully, some of the latest tools make picking up the basics easier then ever. For example, with the Casiotone Keyboards from Casio, which feature a built-in learning system, you can go from being a novice to an intermediate player in a matter of weeks. By connecting the instrument to the free Chordana Play app, you can learn to play your favorite songs from downloaded MIDI files. Some of the keyboard models in this series even feature light-up keys, helping new musicians quickly get the hang of proper finger placements and chords. • Set new goals: Set concrete goals and dates by which you’d like to achieve them. This could be mastering a particular song or performing a live

Patterson Cottage Museum History Here's Liberty Mercantile Co. started by the Curtis family in the early 1900's. The Mercantile Company was a general store selling a little bit of everything. Carolyn's is there now. To the left in the background, you can see the Patterson Cottage at its original location. The Mercantile Company was on the left, the funeral home on the right. From left to right are Alfred Wesley Curtis, owner, Lystra Frazier, clerk, Hunter Ray and John W. Curtis, Sr., embalmer and owner of the funeral home. The note on the back of the photo says there was an "ice house underneath." I guess they could keep their clients "on ice"..... from Warren Dixon

How to Spark Your Child’s Interest in the Field of Education (StatePoint) If your child is an effective communicator and a natural born leader, they may have what it takes to be an amazing teacher. However, a love of learning is fundamental to a career in education. Here are a few ways to cultivate a passion for learning and put this rewarding career path on your child’s radar: • Be a good role model: Whether it’s checking out library books and watching documentaries or pursuing an advanced degree, you can serve as role model by demonstrating the ways that learning can and should be a lifelong pursuit. • Be understanding: School is not always going to be easy. Avoid punishments and other negative consequences for less than stellar grades. Such an approach is unlikely going to motivate your child to work harder and may only backfire. Instead, start a conversation and find out what’s going on. There could be a larger issue causing the setback. • Make learning fun: You can help make sure that learning never feels like a chore by giving your child the space and tools to explore topics of interest to them. For example, if your child wants to learn to play a musical instrument, check out new tools that make the process fun and easy. For example, the range of keyboards available from Casio have built-in learning tools and also connect to the Chordana Play app, which can help budding musicians quickly take their skills to the next level. With the option to add any MIDI file into the app, your child can select the exact songs they want to learn. • Encourage peer-to-peer tutoring: Is your child excelling in a particular subject? Encourage them to help out classmates who may be struggling in the same area. Whether they volunteer their time bringing friends up to speed or turn it into a business, this is an excellent way for your child to hone instructional skills. When it comes to math and science, free online resources can help them dial in their own grasp of the material and get started tutoring. Check out Casio’s education resource page, which features lesson plans and webinars -- useful tools for students and educators of all ages. To access these resources, visit casioeducation.com. Today’s students are tomorrow’s teachers. By instilling a love of learning in your child, you may spark their interest in the field of education.

How Your Family Can Adopt Healthier Digital Habits in 2021 (StatePoint) As we head into 2021, adults and kids alike may still be enjoying the excitement of digital devices received as gifts over the holidays. However, the new year is always a great time for a reset, so alongside those new devices, consider adopting some new digital habits. Here are some great ideas for helping your family build healthier relationships with their digital devices: • Get healthy: Not all screen time is wasted time. You can use your device in positive, productive ways that help your family work toward improved physical health. For example, a steps counter might encourage your family to move more or even take up running, while a yoga app can help guide your family through quick routines you can practice from the comfort of home. • Get smart: Likewise, the members of your family can use their devices to exercise their minds. Encourage everyone to let their smartphones and tablets double function as e-readers, and to download apps that teach new skills and build knowledge. You can even try setting a goal as a family, such as learning a new language using the same app. • Schedule digital downtime: Too much screen time is associated with poor quality sleep, increased anxiety and a range of other physical and mental health concerns, so be sure each day includes digital downtime. This is especially important if your family is working and learning from home right now. Make the most of these screen-free blocks by engaging in active play, moving, getting fresh air or spending quality time together. • Get assistance: Making sure every member of the family is using their device only in safe and healthy ways is easier said than done, however, a parental guidance app can help. Using OurPact for example, the most comprehensive parental control app, you can remotely establish automated schedules for when internet, apps and the device itself are unavailable. Features include URL whitelisting and blacklisting, daily screen time allowances and iMessage/SMS blocking, helping ensure device usage passes your approval. Available at the iOS App Store and Google Play Store, parents can also sign up for an account at www.ourpact.com. For better overall health and wellness, make 2021 the year your family adopts great digital habits.

New Experiences to Try While Social Distancing (StatePoint) With a little creativity, having fun while following social distancing guidelines can be an opportunity to carve out brand new experiences. Whether you’re a solo adventurer or you have the family in tow, consider these fun-filled tips and ideas from the lifestyle experts at Intex Recreation Corp.: • Watch a Movie: Staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t “go to the movies.” Have your next movie night under the stars in the backyard. With the Ultra Plush Dura-Beam Deluxe Airbed or the Pull-Out Sofa from Intex, for example, you can create the ultimate cozy outdoor entertainment space and have movie night without even leaving home. Don’t have a screen? No problem. A plain sheet hung against the side of your house can make for the perfect projection screen. • Go Kayaking: Outdoor exploration is an opportunity to feel free in times like these. Never considered kayaking before? One easy way to get out on the water –without the need for much storage space -- is with an inflatable kayak. Check out those that inflate with an included hand pump so you can conveniently take off on the water hassle-free. Just don’t forget the snacks and SPF, and on cooler days, a wetsuit to stay warm and dry. • Camp at Home: Taking a staycation or simply need some outdoor time without leaving home? Host a family camping night in the backyard. Start the evening with a barbecue, s’mores and lawn games. Once the sun goes down, tell spooky stories. You may be “roughing it” outdoors, but you can stay comfortable using inflatable furniture and Dura-Beam airbeds, which have Fiber-Tech technology and will not stretch over time, resulting in years of durability. • Hit the Road: Americans are still traveling. Indeed, 27 percent have taken a vacation since the start of COVID-19 and 20 percent are planning to, according to a survey conducted by IPX1031. With safety in mind however, more people are opting for road trips. For this reason, RVing has gained particular popularity. If you do go this route, be sure to map out your journey before setting out so you know where you’ll spend each night of the trip. Determine in advance if you’ll keep it moving the entire time in order to cover more ground, or if you’ll stay in fewer locations for longer periods of time. Whatever your style, remember that RVs have limited space, so gear that serves multiple purposes, is portable, or stores easily as-needed, is essential. Think nesting bowls, multitools and, when it comes to relaxing outside with all the same comforts as a hotel or cabin, inflatable couches and lounge chairs. More information about Intex products, which are available at more than 600 retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target and Amazon, can be found at intexcorp.com. As your family navigates the new normal, it’s all about finding new ways to have fun. Getting creative and having the right gear can make life a lot less stressful right now and even offer new opportunities to build lasting memories.
