LVMG will continue with construction and improvements far into the future. The Board of Directors would like to thank everyone for their support since 2011. WE need individuals and businesses to continue supporting our progress by becoming a sponsor or by making a tax deductible contribution. The end of the year is coming fast, what better way to contribute to your community and show support for our Veterans than making a tax deductible contribution to Liberty Veterans Memorial and Gardens. We provide documentation for your tax records. We are a 501 (c) (3) Public Charity (v) (a) (A) (vi). The Town of Liberty leased the property between the Liberty Police Department and the Liberty Farmers Market to the Board of Directors of LVMG. The Board of Directors are responsible for all phases of the Memorial including but not limited to fundraising, Veterans registration and engraving, liability insurance, property damage insurance, electricity, lawn cutting, maintenance, and construction, as specified within the lease agreement. Continued support and contributions is vital to our existence. Any Veteran can have his or her name engraved by providing proof of service (DD214) discharge papers and a check for $190.00. We are not restricted to the Liberty Area. Anyone can sponsor a Veteran by providing the necessary information. We have a new cut off date of October 15, 2018 to join next group of Veterans to have their name engraved in the vertical black granite columns. We presently have fourteen names processed and ready for engraving and room for many more. For registration forms contact any board member, or call 336-622-3850 leave a message, or download forms at www.libertyvmg.org. or email tlconst@rtelco.net Fundraising events include a Bike Ride sponsored by Eddie Latham of The Liberty Tavern held on September 22, 2018. SAGEBRUSH STEAKHOUSE RESTRUARANT is coming to town on October 20, 2018 to cater a chicken and rib supper valued at in store for $31.84 plus tip(see our flyer for details). In spring of 2019 we will have a 5K color walk/run previously held during the July celebration. Due to the summer heat the 5 k is moving to the spring. Presently we are working on Bronze Plaques listing contributors of $500 plus dollars and a Dedication Plaque. Both plaques will be mounted on a brick wall bearing the name Liberty Veterans Memorial and Gardens along the sidewalk from the parking lot. We are also working on a large Bronze Abbreviation Plaque with all the abbreviations of Veteran’s rank, branch of service, and war a Veteran served in. The Abbreviation Plaque will be located in the center of the five vertical monuments. On site Military hardware and benches are also part of our future plans as we continue to grow. As we have said, “WE ARE NOT DONE YET”, we asked that you continue to support us with contributions, sponsorships, purchasing supper tickets, or any of our fundraisers as we continue working for our Veterans.

Help us open a Tattoo Studio in Downtown Liberty! Our Mission: To provide a clean, friendly, and professional environment where people can come get their tattoos and piercings. We pride ourselves on making every customer happy. We want to make the reputation of tattoo studios a GOOD one!

361 E Raleigh St, Liberty Follow us on Facebook @ Redding Hollow

We are two shop owners (Aaron Patrick and Tara Gates) hoping to move the tattoo shop we currently own (515 Tattoo Studio in Burlington) to a smaller location at 133 Swannanoa Ave. As of right now, we are waiting on the Liberty City Council to meet and decide whether they will allow tattoo studios in this area. Currently, they are not even on the list in the town ordinances. Why do we feel like a tattoo studio would be a good fit for Liberty? Tattoos and piercings have become increasingly popular throughout recent years. People of all ages and from all walks of life enjoy them. This can attract a variety of consumers to the downtown Liberty area. We want to connect with the community through our art. In addition to tattoos and piercings, we will be offering custom artwork. Customers will be able to commission an original piece to be done by Aaron, our artist. Also, providing a safe, clean place for people to get tattoos and piercings can reduce the number of people trying to do them at home in an unsafe environment. This is very important to us. Performing tattoos and piercings at home can lead to infection, disease, scarring, and a multitude of other problems. How can you help us? If you would like to help us, please call and speak to the town manager, William Doerfer, at 336-622-4276 and let him know that a tattoo studio in downtown Liberty would be a great idea! For any other questions/comments/concerns about what we are trying to do, you can c o n t a c t u s a t 3 3 6 - 2 1 2 - 5 8 4 5 o r s e n d u s a n e m a i l a t 515tattoostudios@gmail.com. Thanks so much!! Reminder there will be a public meeting on October 15 open to public if you would like to come.

NERMS Gets Facelift Outside Northeastern Randolph Middle School recently partnered with Alamance Community College’s horticulture program to improve the middle school's courtyard area. Student and staff volunteers from ACC worked alongside NERMS students from Jessica Gordon’s agriculture classes and volunteers from the BETA and FFA clubs. Representatives from the community college designed the layout and were integral to the project’s success from beginning to end. In this collaborative experience, the middle school students learned about the community college’s program and how it can prepare them for a future career in horticulture.

Liberty Patterson Cottage Heritage Festival

HISTORY

Sat Sept 29 the folks that support and love the Liberty’s Historical Museum at the Liberty Patterson Cottage pulled off a great Heritage Festival. It was so nice to get to look about life from years ago. No electronic devises was found in back then. I had the great opportunity to allow my grand-daughter to get hands on experience from craftsmen that keeps art from our fore-fathers still alive. She got to do hands on wood carving, hand sewing, weaving, and playing musical instruments. We also got to learn the history by them all. Then we got to see things from local made pottery to weaved baskets that was weaved from long leaf pine-needles. The history in so many areas was portrayed in so many venues. There were people inside the museum to explain all the great donated items inside the Patterson Cottage. It was great to walk back in time. The best part, its our history of our community. No need to travel far off to see history, its right here in our backyard. I even got to show and explain to my grand daughter about the historical fire truck on display. A big thank you to all that put this on.

When Creatives and the Creator Collide By: Andy Clapp The early days of September saw our town transform into a gathering place of creative Christians who have a passion to spread the gospel through the written word. Nearly seventy writers and twenty faculty members assembled at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for a three-day writer’s conference, pitching novels and nonfiction ideas, worshipping God together, and seeking direction from the Lord as to how to reach the nations with the message of the cross. What resulted was a time of excitement, encouragement, and an increased passion to write. Starting on September 8 and continuing through the tenth, Serious Writer offered the North Carolina Christian Writers Conference, inviting writers from all over the nation to come in and hone their skills to become better writers. Fifteen states were represented, and one writer came from England. Serious Writer founders Cyle Young and Bethany Jett assembled a faculty of agents, editors, writers, and speakers who gave one-on-one appointments to those attending and taught workshops. Steven James, Michelle Medlock Adams, Eva Marie Everson, Victoria Duerstock, Jane Jenkins Herlong, Diana Flegal, Rachel Pellegrino, Bill Watkins, and Edwina Perkins headlined the three-day event. The results were amazing. The excitement was so overwhelming that the dates are already set for next year’s conference, which will be held on August 8-10, 2019, again at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Novice writers, advanced writers, and those who are just looking to learn more about writing benefit from these conferences. This year’s conference featured a book release from Steven James and Eva Marie Everson and a book signing from all who have published works. At the end of the gospel of John, John wrote, “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written.” (John 21:25 HCSB) The works of the Lord are happening all around us as God moves in mighty ways. As the North Carolina Christian Writer’s Conference revealed, God is calling people to share the gospel through written words so that others may come to know a God who loves, a God who gives, and a God who saves. How many lives might be touched as a result of the conference? Only God knows that number, but we know that God is a rewarder of faith and the faith shown in that conference is the foundation for a mighty move of God that can change the landscape of our culture for generations to come.

October 2018 May 2018

mailto:info3@unitsnc.com Hurriedly stumbling into my home church on last Thursday was different than all the other days I’d rushed in, always running behind. The church I’ve attended for ten years had a different feel that day. Maybe it was my nervousness or maybe it was my excitement that had me feeling as if I’d just had a triple shot espresso drink. Or maybe it was the triple shot espresso drink. I was invited by my Pastor, Andy Clapp, to attend the North Carolina Christian Writers Conference at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Liberty, NC. Writing was not my profession, far from it. For all my adult life, I’ve worked in senior living operations. Writing was something I did as a hobby when I was younger, and I’d received lots of encouragement from teachers and church leaders to keep writing. But then life happened, and I put my writing aside for two decades. My Pastor has been writing for years and has many publications, including articles, books and devotionals. His encouragement to others and drive to spread the Gospel is inspiring and it inspired me. A couple of years ago, Pastor Andy offered a class at church for those interested in writing. My interest was piqued, and I attended. East. Following the guidance, he offered, I submitted my devotional writing 303 and one of Luther Ave. Liberty, NC Beautiful them was printed. When I received the printing letter, my excitement was yard with large trees. 1.02 acre lot. explosive, something I hadn’t felt in a long time. God’s encouragement cameCorner at just the right time. Pastor Andy had been encouraging me for the past two years. 3,364sf Brick house 4BD 3.5BA Paying forward his success, he was giving me the benefit of his experience, Large screened in porch. sharing his successes and nonsuccesses. Furthering my knowledge, I had the exciting opportunity of attending the writer’s conference recently. That explosive $239,900.00 excitement I felt when my first devotional was published reoccurred at the writer’s conference. Industry experts were right in front of me, openly sharing their insider advice, guidance and counsel and most importantly, sharing their love and encouragement. The uplifting experience of the Christian Writer’s conference was so amazing and overpowering that I was going home each night, staying up late and writing out my passions. The thoughts were burning inside me and the drive the conference awakened in me forced me to put those thoughts in writing. Expanding the reach of the Gospel through writing is the goal of all Christian writers and the conference was built exclusively on that goal. You could feel it during the worship times and during the meetings with publishers and agents. Many ended their meetings with a prayer, holding hands with the aspiring writer. Nourishment of the soul was a side effect of the conference. Connections with fellow writers were formed, strengthening the body of Christ with each new connection. On the last day of the conference, I encouraged my step daughter to volunteer with the church volunteers. I desperately wanted to share the encouraging environment with her, to pay it forward just as Pastor Andy Clapp had done for me. Imagine the impact if we all pay it forward, just as the organizers, agents, publishers, writers and Pastors did when they held this For more information please contact Billy conference. Mayors Fitness Challenge Healthy Communities A3 has a new name- and a new, enhanced, focus. While A3 has always advocated for physical activity within the county, a new partnership has allowed them to expand this role. Healthy Randolph was a volunteer organization that focused on increasing the health equity of the county. Some of their projects from the past were PlayDaze events, a playground renovation at Richland Village Mobile Home Park, and various other community-based projects. As the two groups continued to work separate, it became apparent that something needed to change. Both groups wanted to impact the health outcomes of the county, but not working together caused the efforts to overlap. The solution? A merger. After several meetings of key stakeholders across several weeks, the idea was born. One non-profit organization working together to increase the health and wellness of Randolph County. The new organization is called Healthy Communities, and has a much more comprehensive approach for the issues at hand. While there are still hikes, there is also a lot more work going on in various topics, letting people work where they fit best. The new organization has five main initiatives- a wellness coalition, physical activity, trails, mental health/substance abuse, and nutrition. This expanded focus allows the nonprofit to continue to hold monthly hikes, sponsor special events, and creature a culture of wellness for the county. One of the biggest projects of Healthy Communities is the Mayors Fitness Challenge. As we enter our eighth annual challenge, we are looking to make this year the best and biggest one yet. Healthy Communities invites everyone to participate, as the event is free of charge and lasts for six weeks. The challenge will start Monday, October 8th and conclude on Sunday, November 18th. This is an "all activity" wellness challenge with the goal of increased physical activity for Randolph County residents. All ages are invited to participate, and teams are encouraged but individuals are always welcome. To learn more about this event, plan to attend the kick-off celebration. The kick-off presentation will take place at RCC’s LRC Auditorium, located at 629 Industrial Park Avenue in Asheboro. The event will begin at 6 p.m. A raffle will take place to award a lucky winner a grand prize wellness basket! All attendees will receive a free gift. During the six-week challenge, many special events are planned throughout Randolph County. All events are free and open to the public, with no pre-registration needed. Special challenge events include: Saturday, October 20: Walk at Creekside Park, Archdale Saturday, October 27: Walk at Presnell Park, Seagrove

How a Christian is like a Pumpkin

Thanks to Amber for sharing this with us! This is a fun way to share the Christian message! It would be great to use around Halloween or Fall. A lady recently being baptized was asked by a co-worker what it was like to be a Christian. She replied, "It's like being a pumpkin:
God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you may have gotten from the other pumpkins.
Then he cuts the top off and scoops out all the yucky stuff.
He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc.
Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

1. Take a pumpkin. "You aren't a pumpkin, but all of us are something like one. God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you may have gotten from the other pumpkins." Talk about how a pumpkin is like us: it has an outside and an inside. The outside is what people see. The inside is like our soul or our heart. A pumpkin left to itself will soon rot and die. We will die some day too." 2. Carve out eyes and a small "o" shaped mouth. As you make the holes and pull out the pieces of rind, ask people what they see inside (yucky stuff). "This is what we look like to others and what we are like when are hearts are not changed. The hearts of men are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live (Ecclesiastes 9:3). How can we get rid of this icky stuff?" 3. "God is the only one who can change our heart. But in order for God to change our heart we must become open to him." "Food Lion To Go is so convenient.” Stated Krista Layton Of Liberty . Krista shared, “ I sat on my couch, downloaded the instacart app on my phone and started shopping Sunday afternoon. I was able to search for each item I wanted and add it to my cart. When I was finished shopping I picked a day and time for pick up that was convenient for me and paid with my card. There is a $1.99 “delivery” fee. Pick up day was Monday Oct. 1st, I parked in the #1 pick up spot, called the number on the screen and told them I was picking up for Krista Layton, they quickly brought my order to the car and unloaded it for me. What a great addition to food lion in liberty, especially since I have 3 kids and grocery shopping is more of a job these days.” Krista chuckled and said ,”This saved me money because I didn’t see yummy things that I threw in my cart, only got what I needed. Oh yeah, the ladies gave me suckers for my kids and dog treat for my dog.” As you can see from picture below a happy customer. Liberty is moving on up with the new service at Food Lion.
