Great Growth In County The Randolph Co Economic Development announced that two companies in the county will expand, adding 12 new jobs in Seagrove and 24 new jobs in Liberty, with a combined investment of more than $3,500,000. Ernie Green Industries in Seagrove will add 12 new jobs and invest $240,000 in a new clean room for medical devices production. Ferree Trailers will expand their current 60,000 square foot facility in Liberty, adding 24 new jobs and investing $3,500,000. The Randolph County Board of Commissioners took steps Monday night toward assisting the two projects. Grant applications from the North Carolina Department of Commerce for the two companies, totaling $60,000 for EGI and $300,000 for Ferree, were approved by the Board of Commissioners. Ferree Trailers manufactures flatbed and gooseneck trailers, and EGI produces plastic injection molding products and medical devices. Under the grant's rules, both companies will have 18 months to complete expansions and hiring goals. The new jobs must be retained for six months. If the hiring and retention goals are not met, the companies will be required to repay the loan on a per-job basis, or $12,500 for each job.

Treat From Great Kids That Give Treats The youth from Edwards Grove Baptist Church in Liberty this month was set up at Liberty's Farmer Market selling local baked goods to snow cones. This was a fundraiser for them to raise funds to sponsor one of their projects. That would be where they give the treats back, because they visit the local nursing homes and share their love and time with the residents. It was great seeing the adults working with the youth to spend time raising money for such a great cause. If you are looking for a great place for your teenagers to plug in you need to reach out to Edwards Grove Baptist Church. You can reach them at 336-622-2981or visit them at 214 S Foster St, Liberty

Randolph Senior Adults Association is seeking volunteers to help deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors in Randolph County. Volunteers are appreciated in all communities, but there is a specific need for assistance in the Asheboro and Ulah areas. Volunteer drivers are asked to commit one to four hours per month between the hours of 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Last year, volunteers helped deliver about 65,000 meals to those older residents in need, throughout Randolph County. The commitment can be for as little as one day a week with delivery taking about 90 minutes to complete. “Receiving a hot meal from Meals on Wheels is a necessity for seniors in the program and often the only human interaction for the day,” said Tracey Walden, Asheboro Senior Center Director. “You not only deliver a meal, you deliver a smile.” For more information about volunteering, contact Walden at 336-625-3389 ext. 231.

Finding Life
Pancake Breakfast
By: Andy Clapp We look everywhere for life, for that which w i l l r e d e fi n e o u r existence into something more. Have you ever noticed that we will seek inspiration and motivation from nearly any source but rarely look for those very things in the Bible? We look for books that will cause us to seize the day. We listen to motivational speakers in the hopes that their message will inject a passion in us that will last. That movie that provides inspiration is watched over and over again, in the hopes that this time, we will rise above what is our normal to experience something greater, that we will find a passion that life is lacking. For Christians, our lives are just as difficult as those who live without faith. We go through similar trials and tribulations. Receiving salvation does not guarantee that everything will go smoothly after the day we are saved. In fact, Satan targets us in an even greater manner after we take up our cross to follow Jesus. So, as life endures the struggles, as we get mired in the mundane, we look for something to breathe life into us, to rekindle a passion that once burned so hot within us. As a pastor, I go through the same thing. I have been there recently. As I sought a renewed passion for my life, I turned to the same things – a speaker with a catchy style, a song that would get me going, etc. Night fell one evening, I had remained in the rut for nearly a week, and finally, I pulled out my Bible, turning to Psalm 119 to see what the Lord would tell me. There it was, right in the text. The Psalm reads, “My life is down in the dust; give me life through Your word.” (Psalm 119:25 HCSB) Finding life is returning to the source of life and allowing God to move in our lives again. What the Word of God offers is hope, meaning, instruction, and life, what the world cannot offer even in its best efforts. The Bible draws us back to our Creator who understands not only where we are, but why we are there and where we are to go from that point. Scripture illuminates our path, piercing the darkness that seems to close in on us at times and reminds us that the hope in Jesus Christ is an eternal hope. Maybe you are in a rut today. Maybe you have endured a season that has been overwhelming, and you need a spark today to ignite the fire in your life again. We can only find life in the Giver of life, the One who first breathed life into the nostrils of Adam in the Garden of Eden. Every other inspiration will eventually give out, but the Word of God remains, an eternal source of life that has been given straight from God to His creation. Finding life is as easy as opening a Bible, reading, praying, and listening for God to speak.

Liberty’s First United Methodist Church has pledged $50,000 of a bequest made by the estate of Ella Lowe toward building a new museum for Liberty. Church Council member Tom Meacham said the church wanted to do something to benefit the community that would honor Frank and Ella Lowe for all their contributions to the town. “We wanted to share a part of Ella’s generous bequest with the community,” Meacham said. “We wanted Ella and Frank to be remembered and also show the community that giving is good. We wanted to sow some seeds in the community.” Ella and Frank Lowe owned Dixie Equipment, a local company that provided furniture to schools, libraries and other institutions. The company, on Kinro Road, is now known as Educational Environments by Dixie Equipment. Frank Lowe, a World War II Navy veteran, passed away in 2011 at the age of 91. His wife, Ella, died in 2015 at 93. At Frank’s death, the couple had been married 66 years. On Ella’s death, she left major bequests to area churches, the Liberty Library and local school systems. The Liberty Elementary School, for instance, recently used part of Ella’s gift to remodel their library. Randolph Community College used part of their money to offer scholarships and build a garden in memory of Ella. The First Methodist pledge will go to the newly formed non-profit organization “Friends of the Historic Patterson Cottage Museum”. One of the goals of the Friends is to build a new museum to house the artifacts in the Patterson Cottage. The gift was announced to the group at their second meeting August 30. “We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful pledge from First Methodist to say the least,” said Friends’ President Judy Hernandez. “Our long range goal is to build a new museum and preserve the Patterson Cottage as a cottage. This is amazing. It really kick starts our campaign a lot earlier than we ever anticipated. We can’t thank the wonderful people of First Methodist for this. And we certainly will honor Ella Lowe and the church when the museum is complete.” The newly formed Friends group has set its purpose as follows: To aid, assist and promote interest in and development of the Patterson Cottage Museum and any future branches; To assist in fundraising project in support of the Patterson Cottage Museum through gifts, grants, bequests and dues; To promote the concept that the Patterson Cottage Museum is an integral part of the community and an public resource; To work toward an ever improving museum by creating a building fun in order to build or purchase a building to better house the current Patterson Cottage museum collection; To plan and implement programs and events of community interest and educational outreach to development and sustain an awareness and appreciation of the area’s history in general and the Patterson Cottage Museum permanent collection in particular. The Friends is a group of volunteers and contributors who work along side the Patterson Cottage Committee, a group appointed by the Town of Liberty. The Town owns the Patterson Cottage but the cottage and its contents are supported by contributions and volunteers. The Town does insure the cottage and maintains the lawn. The Friends group has set their annual dues as: Teen Member, $10.00; Individual, $25.00; Family, $40.00; Civic Groups, $50.00; Businesses, $100.00. To join the Friends, you may send your remittance to Friends of the Patterson Cottage, PO Box 1605, Liberty, NC 27298. If you do not want to join, please consider making a donation. Any amount is appreciated. The Friends will have a booth at the upcoming Heritage Festival, Saturday, September 29, from 10-3 at the Cottage.

Teague's Farm And Market New Look If you have not been by or even ever been to Teague's Farm and Market in Snow Camp you should take a drive out there. Micheal Teague the owner has completed a whole new look inside and outside. As you can see from the pictures it has a great new look. This is a great place to pick up all kinds of items. They have great supplies of all mulching items, gravel and top soil. They even over delivery. Muck Boots are a great price here also. Getting ready for the hunting season, they carry several items for baiting up your spot and more. They truly have a little something for everyone. A friend was with me and realizes their prices for chicken feed was even cheaper than big chain Tractor Supply. So why not help out the local shop owners and shop local. Great little find located at 8912 Pleasant Hill Church Rd, Snow Camp, NC 27349. You can reach them at 336-376-6660.

His team made history by being the first Northeast 11u team to ever win the National USSSA All American League championship. Stephen has a nasty knuckle ball that was never able to be hit. This pitch is what got the Northeast team into the championship game. He had tryouts in Greensboro, NC to be part of this team. He was the top pick of over 200 prospects. His team consisted of young men from New Jersey down to South Carolina that will forever share a huge bond due to this amazing experience. Fortnite friends forever (lol) Out of 7 games total the Northeast team only lost the very first one. The other teams consisted of players from all over the Nation!! For the Championship game the Northeast defeated the Atlantic team 5-4 at the bottom of the 7th inning. They were tied 4-4 in the 6th inning and had to go an extra inning to win.

Jack Garner Donates Civil War Rifles to Patterson Cottage
Jack Garner has once again made a major donation to Liberty’s Patterson Cottage Museum. Garner recently donated three iconic Civil War era rifles to the museum in honor of the R.M. Garner, Sr. family. “Jack has already donated around $10,000 worth of artifacts to the museum,” said Warren Dixon, Chairman of the Patterson Cottage Committee. “These include two rare Jamestown rifles, one in memory of his wife Marjorie Johnson Garner, and the other, signed by Henry Wright, in memory of his parents, R.M. Garner and Maize Kimrey Garner. We are gratified by Jack’s generosity and his loyalty to the museum. Not many museums are fortunate to have this kind of collection, nor are they fortunate enough to have a friend like Jack Garner.” The Civil War era rifles include a Spencer Rifle (pictured), the world’s first military repeating rifle, a Sharps Carbine, renowned for its accuracy and a Springfield Model 1863, Type II rifle, the last muzzle loading long arm produced by the Springfield Armory. The Spencer Rifle was a revolutionary innovation with a seven-round tube in its buttstock that allowed a soldier to fire 14-20 rounds a minute. A soldier by contrast could only fire two to four rounds a minute with a typical muzzle loading percussion cap rifle. The Spencer was a breech loading rifle, firing a .50 caliber round. Christopher Spencer, designer of the rifle, took his weapon to the White House and he and President Abraham Lincoln fired the rifle. Lincoln was so impressed that he ordered the rifle to be adopted for production. In gratitude, Spencer gave him one of the guns. The Sharps Rifle was also a breech loading weapon. Although it was a single shot rifle, a soldier could get off eight to ten shots a minute. The . 52 caliber rifle was known as a superior sniper weapon because of its long range accuracy. Revered among foot soldiers for its rugged construction, it earned the nickname “Old Reliable”. After the Civil War, it’s been credited with decimating the buffalo herds out West. In the 1874 Battle of Adobe Walls, 28 buffalo hunters with Sharps rifles withstood the attack of several hundred Indians. Scout Billy Dixon is said to have knocked an Indian off his horse during the battle at 1,000 to 1,500 yards with a Sharps. Indians said it was the rifle that “fired today and killed tomorrow.” Tom Selleck most recently used a Sharps rifle in the movie “Quigley Down Under”. The Springfield Rifle was a .58 caliber rifled musket which fired two to four rounds per minute. As a muzzle loading percussion cap rifle it was among the most numerous weapons used during the Civil War and was a standard issue for Federal troops and was often used by Confederate soldiers alike. These rifles, along with the Jamestown rifles and other percussion weapons and artifacts donated by Jack Garner, will all be on display during the Patterson Cottage’s Heritage Festival, Saturday, September 29 from 10:00-3:00 at the Cottage. The event is free and the public is invited.
