inspiration In the following few pages, I would like to showcase how I get my inspiration. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not an easy process, and sometimes when the creative block hits...Well, let’s just say that it can last for a pretty long time. However, there are a few things that help me get through. When I feel stuck with my project, I like to get creative in some other way. It helps to pick up my camera, go out and take some photos. Or just get away from my laptop for a bit and create in a good old analog way (painting, scrapbooking, collages...the possibilities are endless). Traveling is also one of my greatest sources of inspiration and even though I cannot be on the road all the time (maybe in the future haha), I always come back home refreshed and bursting with ideas. Now, let’s explore these categories a little more in-depth. Painting allows me to try out different mediums, see how they react and how I could potentially utilize them in my designs. As I said earlier, I love stepping away from my laptop from time to time and getting my hands on analog creating. The software can sometimes take away a little bit of the fun and creativity, which is why I love getting messy, covering stuff in paint, and just enjoying the moment. Travelling allows me to gain new perspectives by exploring different cultures and lifestyles. I really stand by that famous quote that staying in one place all the time is just like having a book but reading the same page over and over again. I often stress the importance of traveling for our self-development - it’s an incredible way to become more aware of what’s going on in the world and most importantly - it humbles us and makes us grateful. In addition, inspiration can be sourced from every single culture, and I love exploring all the unique styles of design and art there are to be found.

also,

Here are some useful things I’ve learned on my journey so far. Sometimes it’s all about the feeling, not the theory. Sometimes, your education tells you one thing but your eyes and gut are telling you otherwise. Don’t snap to that grid and guides at all times, sometimes you need to follow your intuition instead. Also2: let the first couple of versions of your designs suck. I often strive for perfection right away which then keeps me from doing anything at all. It’s okay to learn and improve slowly.

These photos speak to me - some loudly, some softly. It’s about the feeling you get from a photo that matters, it’s not about the perfect composition or perfectly graded colours. Photography is one of my biggest passions, and it inspires me daily. Sometimes, when I hit the creative block, it helps me to get out of my house, take my camera with me and just snap pictures. I try to capture people, objects, and moments, sometimes from different angles than usual. That, alongside bold cropping, gives the pictures a very different feeling, which can help me to gain a new perspective.

the power of My friends always make fun of me for taking photos of literally everything. I honestly don’t mind, they are quite right. I love taking random photos of patterns, wall creaks, interesting buildings, strangers, and even trash sometimes. This helps me to train my eye, to be more observant and I think it makes me more creative too. I get so inspired by these! New layouts, bold color combinations, amazing techniques... Also, this way, I am slowly building my own personal photobank, so every time I need a background for a new design, I don’t have to search too hard.

eudaimonia

The Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 BCE – 322 BCE) wrote Nicomachean Ethics, in which he defined personal development as a category of phronesis or practical wisdom, where the practice of virtues (arête) leads to eudaimonia commonly translated as “happiness” but more accurately understood as “human flourishing” or “living well”.

creative stroke

This abstract piece represents the feeling when you get a sudden urge to make something, so many ideas at once but none of them being clear. It feels more like fog with a few sparks, each one leading you in a different direction and you’re trying to form a vision or at least something visual. Although it’s the opposite of the creative block, there are quite a few similarities and this can feel just as overwhelming.

h w I chose orange because it’s the colour of creativity, representing the heat you can feel when the creative stroke hits you. It’s not as aggressive as red but it has its drama and energy, it can feel alive almost.

continuous improveme along the

s ment Here comes the main series of posters for this project. I researched each word from the sentence continuous improvement along the journey and created a separate poster for each. The focus is both on their meaning and origin. I utilized their old forms because I find them really beautiful, and also this etymological research showed me another journey of how these words were created. This whole series is quite abstract, conveying the feeling from each word and gently leaving it up to you whether you want to fill in those blanks or not.

Meaning “betterment; act of making better.” The word nice is a classic example of amelioration. This is a rare occurrence, compared with the opposite process of pejoration, or downgrading.

trust the Here are some previous versions of this project, where I photographed different angles around the city. I had a good time taking photos from different perspectives than I am used to, however, that was it. Even though I tried, the project just wasn’t something I would be very excited to work on so that’s when I realized that I might need to change my subject. I really like how this little series turned out though, and even though there is no deeper meaning to it, I love how the colours and aesthetics work together and I have certainly learned something new along the way. And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? The continuous improvement along the journey.

Anyway, I’m glad you made it this far! Thank you for taking the time to look through my work and I hope you’re feeling a little happier and more inspired than you did when you started reading. Klára
