For første gang nogensinde i Danmark : Mød den amerikanske digter John Giorno i en samtale om New York, dels de kreative 60*ere med Andy Warhol og popkunst, dels de vilde 70*ere, som han kalder The Golden Age of Promiscuity.
På Hovedbiblioteket vil Giorno indgå i en dialog med den herboende digter og dramatiker Lennox Raphael (former staff writer for New York*s East Village Other (EVO) & author of the play, CHE !, directed by Ed Wode, which ran in Manhattan for 13 months ; & director-author of the musical BLUE SOAP, with music by Archie Shepp) om 60*erne og alt, hvad den tid siden har sat af spor. Moderator er forfatteren Lars Movin, som efter en pause vil spille eksempler fra de mange lækre Giorno Poetry Systems vinyludgivelser ! John Giorno er inviteret til Danmark af festivalen Berlin Soup www.berlinsoup.org

Leif's Tree

My pictures and songs are the foundation on which I walk. The first authentic work of art I saw as a child was by a lithographic artist in Ærøskøbing. Never mind the woodcut & white paper with black sticky colors, it was a sacred moment. I often watched as Tulia, my mother, made ready her knitting machine. Which was often not without problems, but her ingenuity would put everything in its place and the first patterns took shape. Then I stepped into the Glyptotek in Copenhagen for the first time. I would walk around and closely study the paintings & sculptures. Later came the time of workshops with friends. Here I learned the hard way about being cleaved off the rest of society and the necessity of standing together. Alone but not lonely. Those who see my pictures and listen to my songs are my life. leifdionejoensen@gmail.com – skulpturnexø.dk.

Christian Noah Møller …As I approached The Room in contemplation, the problems arouse dancing in an empty space. For years my body was attached to the situation, growing in the soil of everyday life, breathing, building up and breaking down, as humans do. Suddenly, there was an opening as if two hands had pulled the clouds aside, and there was light ! As the problems of existence started to dissolve as dew on the leaves of the tree of life, a thousand brilliant colours spread out like a widened tale. Stars being born. Stars fading out. Slowly, the problems of life were leaving me, and I was surprised to find a space in nothingness. In this room I met you. I love you ! Christian Noah Møller

Tove Vestmø Her performance style lies at the border of stage, visual and language art. She is presently occupied with investigating time, the moment and principles of repetition.

Since 2008 she has choreographed dance in a new style – a hybrid consisting of ›butoh‹, comtemporary, & oriental, which is evident and can

be experienced in ›Dance Poetry‹ – ›Dansedigte‹ – a personal innovative concept, where language, music and dance merge in synergy.

Carman Moore Berlin Soup welcomes Carman Moore, the world-renowned composer & conductor Carman Moore is ›most excited‹ to perform internationally this year with Lotte Arnsbjerg vocalist and actor, on their dramatic song cycle ›GIRL OF DIAMOND MOUNTAIN‹, which addresses forcefully the scourge of child abuse. Lennox Raphael remembers it was John Lennon who introduced him to Carman & Carman who introduced Lennox to John Cage. A world-renowned composer, conductor, author, librettist and music critic, his commissioned works include ›WILDFIRES AND FIELD SONGS‹ for the N.Y. Philharmonic conducted by Pierre Boulez & GOSPEL FUSE for the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Seiji Ozawa. To libretti by the celebrated Ishmael Reed he has written the gospel opera GETHSEMANE PARK and the chamber opera WILD GARDENS OF THE LOUP GAROU. Upcoming on Moore’s calendar are the premiere of his Latino-oriented chamber work REQUIEM FOR LA LUPE and

TATA MADIBA (honoring Nelson Mandela) commissioned by The American Composers Orchestra for 2015. A recent Guggenheim Fellow, he is presently creating a 2-day work called TAO BEYOND TAO, the first day acoustic, featuring symphony orchestra and singers and the second electronic, featuring The Skymusic Ensemble, the NY electro-acoustic chamber group which he founded and conducts. A dedicated educator, Moore has taught at the ›Yale University School of Music‹, ›Queens and Brooklyn Colleges‹, ›CarnegieMellon University‹, ›Manhattanville College‹, and ›New School University‹. In 1995 he served as consultant to Wynton Marsalis on his popular PBS-broadcast home video series for children, ›Marsalis On Music‹. In 2002 his RASUR, a Spanish-language dance opera for children was premiered in Costa Rica. Moore is also the author of two youth-oriented books  : ›Somebody’s Angel Child‹ – ›The Story of Bessie Smith‹ (Dell) and ›Rock-It‹ (a music history and theory book for ›Alfred Music Publishers‹). Moore has served as Board member and adjudicator for several major organizations, including ›Composers Forum‹, the ›Society of Black Composers‹, the ›N.Y. State Council on the Arts‹, and the ›National Endowment for the Arts‹. In addition he has been music critic and columnist for the ›Village Voice‹ and has contributed to ›The New York Times‹, ›The Saturday Review of Literature‹, ›Vogue‹, and ›Essence‹ magazine.

Carman Moore Lotte Arnsbjerg and Carman Moore met by coincidence. They started to work on music by coincidence. What they create seems to appear by coincidence. But they both believe that nothing important happens by chance. The thing is, when they get together something quite amazing is happening; and when put into music, becomes very clear, the great Tao operating from a plan of beauty, love, and perfection.

Lotte Arnsbjerg Lotte Arnsbjerg is fabulous. As one who cannot keep herself from bringing hidden issues to light, she follows her own way and is a creative & uncompromising artist. In 2000, she founded her sing-along programme, ›Toner Fra Himlen‹, which has already chalked up more than 1,000 concerts throughout Denmark (+ several in Germany) ; and in 2003 released her first album, a rewrite of the book of Psalms, a project that played over 80 concerts sparking debates about the fear of death and how to break the taboo around it. She now follows the same path in the project ›GIRL OF DIAMOND MOUNTAIN‹, a powerful song cycle about child sexual abuse structured dramatically into audience discussions and encounters between survivors and exdefenders. ›GIRL OF DIAMOND MOUNTAIN‹, already done twice to rave audiences in New York City, is supported by ›RED BARNET DK‹ and during 2014 & 2015 will be traveling to Texas, San Francisco, Canada, Hawaii, Japan, Budapest and Berlin. She has starred in more than 80 theater performances, and has given more than 1,200 concerts, performed in albums of Martin Hall and Moussa Diallo, and released 5 albums of her own (›Toner Fra Himlen‹, ›Glamorama‹, ›Mongotube‹). Lotte, who became a famous and popular face in the danish TV series ›Strisser på Samsø‹, appeared too in several TV shows and feature films such as ›Operation Cobra‹, ›Come back‹, and ›Rich kids‹. In 2006 she debuted as a playwright with ›Historien om en Mo(R)der‹ – a shocking dramatized biography about the danish serial killer Dagmar Overby, who killed more than 26 new-born children. This piece was followed by the play ›TVANG‹ – a brutal story about prostitution within the domestics. Lotte, also a highly recommended performance-coach in business circles, works widely as a personal trainer & advisor, founded in 2000 the performance & improvisation lab, ›Improgruppen‹, now a well-known popular theaterlab. photographer – Pearl Perkins

Sarah Armstrong ›  As an artist I am very much engaged in the nature of cross genre aesthetics and often focus and challenge the format of my works around notions of  contemporary dance with strong influences from Live and Visual art. I allow myself to transcend in the moments of execution, though still aware of the culturally imposed narratives of my body and archetypes residing in the contours of society. I like to view movement and choreography as a ›middle ground  , a playground between art and life, a live transmission between reality and fiction, a starting place for subjective and political disintegrations and for transformations, laughter and silence ‹.

›Culture Camping at Charlottenborg‹ Poetry Station is a site-specific artwork where from word to space to city the audience participates in a transformation process. The artwork is a collaboration between poet Ursula Andkjær Olsen and artist Rune Fjord.

Elements of poetry, performance, installation and contributions by the audience merge together to create an artwork in which everybody contributes to the final shape. The intention is to create a kind of open ›Gesammtkunstwerk‹ with a tight aesthetic design in dialogue with the environment that can be used and experienced first hand. The work will appear as some sort of furniture which includes seating and opportunites for dialogue between the public by using chairs positioned to encourage conversation combined with artifacts provoking a particular dialogue enhancing the work.

Poetry Station is an experimental work of art in the intersection between poetry, visual arts and urban development. The artwork converts and translates the written form of the poem to a concrete physical space using furniture, artifacts and performative acts in social interaction with the audience and the urban environment on site.

Julian Layn Classical composer and pianist. At this year’s Berlin Soup Julian will present the Scylla-and-Charybdis Impromptu, a two-theme piano solo piece rooted in his ›Ecocalypse‹ program which is both a statement on the collective anxiety in society and a reply to ›Endspiele‹, a collection of works by Swiss author and playwright Fridrich Dürrenmatt. Julian has released two full-length albums of his own compositions and regularly performs concerts across Europe. Currently he is on a special concert tour, bringing his unique style of music and performance directly to the people. These outdoor, open-air concerts create the most dynamic artist-audience environment explored by Julian as part of the creative process for his work. His unique style of music can best be described as contemporary classical for piano solo with a romantic-era harmonic structure and a basso-continuo-concept inspired by heavy rock. Julian was born in Switzerland and, along with a lifelong education in composition and performance, also holds a PhD in theoretical physics, which contributes heavily to the inspiration and theoretical underpinnings of his work and performances.

LITSA Kiousi

photographer – Hendrik Schneller

Berlin-based Litsa Kiousi is dancer, performer, and choreographer. Greatly influenced by the post-punk and experimental music scene, cinema and performing arts, she creates work with intimate and charged atmospheres. Her dance-concerts, ›Where is the most beautiful funeral ?‹, ›Dream Inspector‹, and the solo, ›watching alice‹, have been performed in clubs, galleries and theatres in Germany and abroad. With choreographer Camille Mutel, she created the project ›L'animalité Cabaret‹ which was presented in Paris and in Nancy at ›SOUTERRAIN PORTE VI‹. She is currently working with the theatre group ›unitedOFFproductions‹. ›Visiting Time‹, a live interactive installation by and with Litsa Kiousi, is an intimate encounter between a blind-folded performer and her audience. do you love yourself ? – are you addicted to anything ? – are you afraid? – what kept you alive ? – are you lonely ? – would you like to change ? – are you obsessed ? – what is beauty ? when was the last time you cried ?… these are some of the questions proposed, and the process of answering varies during the course of the evening.

›Where is the most beautiful funeral ?‹ ›a dance-concert for 3 performers (one dancer, one actor and one musician). A living-picture that captures the atmosphere of loneliness of human beings, poeticly created by movements, words and sounds.‹

Introduced by Marco Wittorf as the keeper of the gate, the audience enters into a 1on1 encounter. Everyone is given a questionnaire and invited to provide answers by writing them on the performer´s naked body, thereby immersing the skin and marker in an intense dialogue.

In addition to numerous film and television roles, he works regularly, especially in the free scene, at theaters such as ›HAU‹, ›Sophiensaele‹, ›Staatstheater Stuttgart‹, ›Ballhaus OST‹, ›FFT Düsseldorf‹, ›Mousonturm Frankfurt‹, ›Theaterhaus Jena‹, ›TuD‹ (Berlin), ›Schaubühne Lindenfels‹ (Leipzig), ›Kleistforum‹ (Frankfurt-Oder), ›EIRA33‹ (Lissabon), ›HELLERAU‹ (European center of the Arts, Dresden) and the ›Danspaceproject‹ in New York City, and is a regular member of ›unitedOFFproductions‹ theater group. Other collaborations include directors Ant Hampton & Tim Etchells, Ulrich Rasche, Jürgen Kruse, Robert Wilson and choreographer Chantal Yzermans / Radical Low. ›Visiting time‹ is his third collaboration with Litsa Kiousi. www.litsakiousi.com – www.marcowittorf.de

Mariella Brandusa

visual artist

Works with painting, ceramics, land art, video, 3D animation, space installations & interactive books. ›Art makes the world a better place, and is a path to near divinity. But just mastering the craft alone does not produce the sublimation. Art beyond form is about transcendence. A great idea will not necessary produce good work. So ›what I do‹ must refer to the intensity generated by the piece (hopefully to influence the public). I am now at work on several projects, some begun a year ago, some newer, others in moving space, all about human essence as existence in the universe itself, the consciousness of islands and time (which I take personally)‹.

Octavian Neagu Octavian Neagu exhibited at BERLIN SOUP 2013. Born 1965 in Ploiesti, Romania, he belongs to that country’s sacrificed generation. And visual art, a vehicle of spiritual survival and weapon against oppression was his means of expression during the cold war and the dictatorial epoch of Eastern Europe. Octavian’s first conceptual art action was as a 5 year old when he modelled a baby cow from the cheese his mother gave him for breakfast. And when he drew a portrait on the mirror with her lipstick she, convinced he belonged there, sent him straight off to art school. Reacting to the political climate, during the year of his graduation, he found himself on the streets with others fighting the dictatorship. His debut exhibition, and the first on the streets of Bucharest, was with the Danish artist E.A. Frandsen. The exhibition was taken by an art gallery in Lyons and he was invited to exhibit in Gallery Specta in Denmark, going on to study at the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen. Octavian Neagu has lived & worked in Copenhagen since 1990.

The process of is one of concealing rather than revealing. ›Surrealism is not radical enough‹, he claims. Instead of adequate images, the unconscious is granted merely recognizable fragments of form. Action is introvert. And surface fades (as tho invisibiilty drains the canvas of its strength) As spectators are devoured elsewhere by the cunning of the work. www.larshoeg.com

Sean McKenna SEAN was born with the luck of the Irish & this art blessing of his nature soul is expressed through abstraction, naturalism, symbolism and the masculine & feminine arising from a combination of his being inspired by nature’s materials, and by places & people. This Irish sculptor living in Denmark works primarily in wood & stone, the themes varying always & ripening into astonishment as he pours magic into silence, with the outcome a sublime mix between the obvious & the hidden, as he invites the viewer with different perspectives on a specific theme or subject matter. For this charmed artist of here & now, ›Sculpture is a journey of the heart through light and dark, shape and space, asking life pending questions, listening – waiting and living it to the full. Sculpture for life.‹ And dreams.

I sense I seek I sculpt I serve I speak

Dokswel M. Ladies & Gentlemen. …there’s a war going on! A psychological war aimed to influence the audience's value systems, belief systems, emotions, motives, (un) reasoning and behavior. …and in a time of psychological warfare, you need the best storyteller to spread the most thrilling propaganda. For this mission, Dokswel M. has written and self published a book - Rio Is Melting Dokswel M. is declaring war against clichéd & unoriginal minds ! The clichéd & unoriginal storytellers have infected the public long enough with stories that contain fewer nutrients than refined sugar *.

* refined sugar can cause addiction & depression.

The book was unleashed from Dokswel M.'s neurotic mind not too long ago, and is definitely a must-read ! ›The book is about people and diseases (personified) in serious trouble, and it's a Kafka/ Lynch-esque mystery, and that's about all I want to say about it !‹ The following quote is stolen from Dokswel M.'s great, great, great grandfather's confidential protocol, written on a cold night in Torre Galatea : ›There is a hypnotic energy when leaving ideas abstract. People are curious by nature, and leaving something behind to the imagination opens the floodgate to a world everyone can relate to…‹ Allan Bestle with his setups and big flatulent images had a soulful and creative collaboration with the Ukrainian-born writer Dokswel M. The author of the book ›Rio Is Melting‹ has been the source of inspiration or the rebellious reason for these pieces of art. The fruit of their collaboration could be seen in the beginning of March 2013 at previously mentioned galleries. And with nearly 700 visitors, it was a smashing success ! ›The written words by Dokswel M. are smoothly combined with Allan Bestle’s artwork – speaking the language of a universe that is large on ambiguity and fragmented narratives.‹

›MEMORY GAME‹ Joint Project Art*putting something seemingly very personal into a public place and thereby transforming the feeling of that space. Inviting visitors to this child’s play of remembering and matching images and, at the same time, sending them down memory lane. Having images as well as words or short sentences introduce poetry to the game of memory.

Flying practice I imagine that via these redefined fitness apparatus, one is inspired to reach for a higher spiritual recognition at a less materialistic level. The core theme is the dream to fly and the subtle connection created between body and soul. http://www.charlottepetersen.dk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLp8YNO6kO0

2020 Visions dk is an art collective dedicated to giving people the chance of having original art on their walls. The copenhagen collective is administrated by a non-profit group of 15 volunteer members. 2020'S darling is the large exhibition (may 23-25, magistræde 14, copenhagen) entitled ›3 party days for the painting‹ (›3 festdage for maleriet‹). Last year 100 scandinavian artists participated with 1000 20 x 20 cm paintings priced between 200 & 1,500 danish kroner. This exhibition is a feast of paintings that comes with an entertainment program. Viewers are allowed to move the trellis-mounted pieces around and even create their own mini exhibitions. The inter-active experience is enjoyed by the many guests who keep coming back each year for more.

PB 43 is a working community of companies, associations, and groups with interdisciplinary expertise in cultural production, entrepreneurship, communication, and urban development. Since 2010 PB43 has had a former lacquer factory on Amager as its haunt and creative platform. The 6400m2 and four large buildings form the framework around a unique interdisciplinary collaboration which has resulted in innovative projects and products in close interaction with local and international partners. All the premises have found new functions, such as an exhibition space, a cultural event and concert hall, architectural bureau, shared offices, a platform for sound art, wood, bike, pipe, and ceramics workshops, ateliers, children’s TV production, music studios, a record company, new circus studio, urban kitchen garden, publishing house, festivals, and more. The tenants of PB43 are organised as a cooperative which has the task of developing the property and the local area with the aim of creating a vibrant, open, and sustainable environment with cultural and social activities, as well as engaging both nationally and internationally in the development of urban space and creative environments. PB43, with two seats in Copenhagen’s neighbourhood committee, cooperates with local partners in creating better conditions for disadvantaged youths, and takes part in the development of Copenhagen Council’s future strategy regarding the creative growth segment. The lease contract with landowner Akzo Nobel lasts until the end of 2016. There are ongoing negotiations between the landowner and users of PB43 about a possible extension of contract, as well as preparation of a development plan and financial model which will give the users the possibility of buying the property.

The Birth of

BERLIN SOUP

1996 Kulturfabrikken, in Amager, Copenhagen Lennox and Jesper first met at Kulturfabrikken, now Fabrikken for Kunst & Design, in 1996 where Jesper curated a one week workshop on food art together with Rune Fjord Jensen. Lennox participated with, among other things, a piano piece starring a beautiful wellformed naked beauty eating grapes & bananas on top of the piano during the closingdinner. Lennox & Jesper both knew some day in the future they would start working together. August 2011 The seed of Letters from Berlin : Walkies & Talkies : and BERLIN SOUP started its journey in the light of a rainy augustevening under a bombshelter in the yard of the Artspace DADAPOST founded 2009 by Howard McCalebb. Here Lennox and Jesper did an Optipist openingperformance under the blue / white doubleumbrella. When Lennox saw Jespers videoinstallation of Walking men under umbrellas, he fell in love with the magic & said he would like to take a walk & talk under an umbrella in front of Brandenburger Tor SOME DAY October 2012 SOME DAY – BERLIN – JULY IN OCTOBER became 5 beautiful and heartworking walkie talkie days of July in October – Which turned to be long inspiring walkings through the history of blood, suffering, pain, hope, beauty moments of the 20th century European history & inspirational pitstops in the company of Chris Calmer, Silke Calmer, and Anna Fink… That last evening in town Lennox and Jesper biked around Wedding and, as they passed one empty shop after another, decided to have a releaseparty & their DVD : Letters from Berlin : ›Walkies & Talkies‹ in one of these some time in the future. Then Howard heard of their plan and invited them to come to DADAPOST. December 2012

BERLIN SOUP was named under the legendary Star of the upside down hanging Christmas tree in Library Bar at Hotel Plaza a slushy dark Sunday afternoon in the beginning of December 2012 in Copenhagen. We, Alex Choub from Siberia, Lennox Raphael from everywhere and Jesper Dalmose from Copenhagen were sitting talking about the coming ARTevent in DadaPost, Berlin, in May / June 2013 as Ideas and imaginations sparkled in the beauty of the brightlighting Star bidding welcome to the Future. Alex exclaimed ! ! what a Soup ! ! and Lennox & Jesper both said at once : ! ! ! What a Berlin Soup ! ! ! C'est Cá and BERLIN

SOUP was born.

May/June 2013 – The first

BERLIN SOUP was held at DADAPOST.

The rest is artHistory in the Making.
