An Innovative Solution for the Professional Stabilisation of Foundations

INTRODUCTION If a part of a building or structure stands on ground with insufficient load-bearing capacity subsidence can result. Therefore the building should be offered additional ground support and the superstructure should be reinforced to repair the existing cracks and prevent further cracking. In general, this shows in the form of cracks in the masonry structure.

The SureMicroPile offers a flexible and efficient system which is environmentally friendly. No additional loads, as with traditional mass concrete underpinning, are introduced into an already weakened ground. No big and heavy machines are used which can disrupt the surroundings. No excavation is necessary therefore eliminating the need to employ transport for removing the spoil.

If a building is altered by adding floors, greater loads have to be carried by the existing foundations and the ground supporting them. Here again additional ground support must be offered.

Desciption

The SureMicroPile is a prefabricated-pile, made of cast aluminium first grade AlSi7Mg06 Y20, which anchors itself with a minimum of vibration and noise into the soil with a customary compressed air or hydraulic driven hammer. The spiral shaped pile screws itself into the ground through the hammer action of the tool.

Installation

The pile drives directly and without a pilot hole by hammering the individual 1 metre long units into the ground until the predetermined or required load is achieved. A test in tension is carried out on each pile assembly to verify the actual load carrying capacity. If the required figure is not achieved further pile units are hammered into the ground and the control test repeated. Due to the geometry of the pile and the impact-effect of the hammer, the pile screws itself in without vibration into the soil. Within this process, the soil around the pile is being compressed, which enhances the diameter of the pile. With the large excess length of the screw thread on the pile, a high frictional resistance between each concurrent pile may be generated.

Due to a fast one step installation, the use of smaller equipment allows low overhead, limited access installation, and work in confined spaces. The building and the immediate surroundings are subjected to minimal disturbance by the SureMicroPile procedure.

Mini Track Loader – Where no access problems exist

Each of the 1 metre pile sections has a connecting stud made of anodised high tensile aluminium. Therefore, any length of pile is possible depending upon local conditions. The 1 metre length pile units, are hammered in and connected by means of the screw stud made of anodised high tensile aluminium. The total length of the inserted pile is dependent on the required loading capacity and load bearing capacity of the ground. SureMicroPile is based on an even distribution of the loads to be carried over several points to prevent point loading.

For use of a heavier hammer (44 or 66 kg) a lightweight rig is available

SUREMICROPILE ADVANTAGES Studs

Pile Stud

The patented connecting Pile Stud has been modified. The modification has been done in a way to permit a self alignment of the helix between pile to pile. This way it is avoiding soil destruction while driving the pile down. This self-alignment provides a major advantage by keeping a uniform helical-shaped guide hole in the ground which maximises the load resistance of the pile. Stud’s threads are galvanic-corrosion protected (Anodized Aluminium). Studs are connecting piles together.

Piles are self-locking when driven into the ground. The stud is manufactured with a right hand thread to match that of the pile. During development a pile was inserted and a test carried out to expose the connection points of the pile. It could be seen that, due to the matching threads, the piles had maintained a tight fit. This is not the case with opposing threads of stud and pile where the connection points may become loosened.

The SureMicroPile point is easier to insert into the ground. The verticality of the pile is maintained and aids insertion and eliminates the need for a pilot hole.

Production Traceability

During each batch of production and for each pile, a sample of the raw material is retained and archived. In event of a claim, it is then possible to trace the production history of the pile, when it was produced, with which material, serial number and under which production process parametres the piles have been produced.

Internal load carrying capacity

The internal load carrying capacity of the pile is determined by the material used for the production of the piles. Since the SureMicroPile is a prefabricated factory produced pile, we can guarantee a permanent high standard of quality.

External load carrying capacity

The external load carrying capacity of the pile is determined by the ultimate soil friction, surface of the pile (skin friction) and end bearing capacity. Tools and Machinery

Tools and machines are designed with the aim to reduce working time and operations as well as working safety conditions. Tools and machine are designed with the aim to speed up pile driving operations. Where low overhead space or limited access installation and work in confined spaces are concerned, a special air compressed hammer has been developed. Excavation machine works reduce to a minimum. In best case scenario, excavation work is not necessary.

THE SUREMICROPILE AND SUREBEAM COMBINATION

The SureMicroPile can be combined very efficiantly with the SureBeam System – A two component system consisting of stainless steel Suretwist Bar and SureGrout. The SureBeam system can be used in situations where masonry has lost its structural integrity and load bearing capabilities.

The SureBeam system gives horizontal mortar joint reinforcement which connects the masonry together, forming masonry beams which distributes most of the building loads. No extra stress is introduced into the structure, so the integrity and stability is quickly and cost effectively restored.
