Die bus i s reg.

Important role for Chronicle
There is a need for publicity
Dr. Johan van der Hoven writes via e-mail: Dear ColidJanice,
Danie d u Preez, P 0 Box Plettenberg Bay 6600, writes: Dear Sandy,
Congratulations with the interesting and informative Klaserie Chronicle. We enjoy reading it very much and look forward to future editions.
My sincere thanks for favouring me with the above mentioned magazine (the Klaserie Cltronicle) the contents of which I found very interesting in keeping contact with events which are by necessity not dealt with in Colin's monthly Newsletter.
We would also like to commend you, the management, the Board and everyone involved, with the social upliftment programs concerned with the workers. The Chronicle of course plays a very important role in this regard as it presents a forum where these actions are documented and this will undoubtedly serve the reserve very well in the future. Regards. Johan van der Hoven
Mike Myers writes via e-mail: Dear Sandy,
Best regards Danie du Preez

Co-ordinator for the excursion to the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre in September, Sandy Wilkes speaks with great appreciation towards the two instances that enabled this to happen, namely, the visit of 300 children to the Centre. "Special words of thanks must go to Mr Brian Jones of the Centre for sanctioning free entry - we could not have afforded the visit without Brian's generosity and then, to The Great North Transport Company. "The bus company provided bus and driver on each of four days. The value of this donation was R6 800. "Our sincere thanks to Mr Rodgers Mnisi for motivating our request to the bus company's Board and thank-you to the Board itself for its generosity in granting approval," reports Sandy

1. We are the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve and although there has been discussion about dropping the 'private', we are a 'private' nature reserve by legislation. This might change in the future but we would have to think about KNR being confused with the KNP. 2. Isn't the Zebra the logo of some other similar association ? I think we should retain the 'cheetah' logo on the front.
An idea for the next edition could be the new bird names in our area and why they have changed. Thanks again Best regards Mike Thank-youfor your words, Mike. Point taken on item 1. In respect ofpoint 2, the zebra were used merely as a Ifiller 'in the ear-space on thefiont page. Any association with a 'similarassociation 'waspurely coincidental and unintended. You will be pleased to note this has changed, thanks to a photograph provided by Mark Wilkes. New bird names? No sooner said than done, see Pages 6 and 7. Editor

Thank-you for an excellent edition of the Klaserie Chronicle. Just two comments:

I 1032,
My compliments with this innovation. It is about time that the Reserve gets publicity and recognition for its contribution in developing .the social and environmental affairs in the area in which it operates

The tree plantmg session w t h the employee's kids is fantastic. When I was recently on Moscow, Marita showed me the certificates the youngest of the family had received. The certificates with their photos together with thei botanical efforts were a brilliant idea. Marita was bursting with pride;! 'Enviropaedia Day' MAD maak die verskil Wednesday, July 13,2005 broke clear and proud in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. One could call it 'Enviropaedia Day'. Elvis Mathebula, one of the teachers trained for the CET project expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the teachers and participating children towards: MAD, the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Sandy Wilkes, Zani Kunz and the volunteers of the CET project. Francois Pienaar, founder of MAD and several other members of MAD, the warden of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Colin Rowles, Chairman. Mike Myers, journalists and interested parties joined in the day. Member of MAD and Klaserie landowner, Deon Huysamer (Camp George), an avid supporter of the project, has given consistent and solid support. For each training session he has made one or two tlicles available at no charge. He has also provided a venue for the L & Tsessions at Pumula Safari Lodge. The MAD presence on the day focussed on their handing over 200 plus Enviropaedias donated by the publishers, Eco-Logic Publishing ccof the volumevia MAD. The Envirooaedia is a oictorial encvclo~aedia written in plain languageby respeded speciaiistscovering today's major sustainability issues. "ResourceAfrica are sending us teachers to be trained - at a fee, of course. They have a children's wildlife club and they would like to extend emphasis into a trainingearning experience. To do this they have studied our programme and found it to be the best in the region. They will be sending teachers in from the Bushbuckridge area to our teachers training course and have already reserved ten
Continued from page 1 teachers for the 2006 training session. ResourceAfrica is also keenly interested in employing a full-time fund-raiser and entering into a joint project with the Klaserie. "The teachers, once taught, will then return to the Bushbuckridge area and in turn teach the children. "Enquiries have also been fielded from other
reserves in the region. Finally, Fauna and Flora International Project Manager, Wallace Kantai, has approached us with a possibility of sending teachers from the Niassa Province of northern Mocambique. He is keen to send in teachers fluent in English who can then translate textbooks in the lingua franca of that northern province.
