FROM THE GUEST EDITOR

‘Celebrating The F-word together as females’ Its hard to create true change, but here at Stylist magazine we want to celebrate those women who have come before us and those that fight along us today. The efforts of these women have resulted in gradual changes to equality issue and the quality of life for females around the world. It started in a small way, but without those initial steps, we as women would never have won the right to vote. Since then we as a gender have continued to evolve the movement that began all those years ago. As an individual, I am extremely passionate about women empowering one another. This issue is dedicated to celebrating the enthusiasm, drive and success of those who consistently battle the female fight. I feel all young girls should be aware of the past, present and the benefits of the feminist movements. I want support the female’s icons within this magazine, and encourage our readers too look to them for inspiration. Read pages 9 - 11 . Katie Charles, Guest Editor @katiecharles

Lets talk about the trends we’re all crazy for this AW! Stylist love the new season styles emerging on our highstreets and here’s why...

August may have marked the beginning of autumn and winter, although temperatures are still lingering on the warmer side, autumn/winter fashion has become a great deal more difficult to resist as our favourite brands have stocked up with the must have chunky knits and stylish fitted coats, first seen storming the catwalks of New York, Paris, London and Milan fashion weeks. The differing trends and sheer variety of colour variations available on the Highstreet have left us shoppers in an autumnal craze, with deep structured leathers, and animalistic cheetah prints with unexpected colour details dominating the store fashions right now! Leather has and always will be centre stage and a favourite during the autumn winter season and remains a focal part, getting you noticed due to its durability and desirability of this workable fabric. It stands apart from all other fabrics with an individual look whatever the colour. Uncommon to most materials, leather is one of the most versatile as it can be fashioned in full length coats, jackets skirts and trousers along with the handbag and boots. And without doubt seeing a great deal of interest. We at Stylist love the idea of the all leather everything in whatever colour takes your fancy and easily accessible this autumn and without hesitation would recommend it to all fashionista’s as a must have buy. Add a crisp classic white shirt, throw on an oversized gold chain necklace and grab a glittering underarm clutch for that finishing look and you’re good to go for that timeless day to night look. We’ve seen Balmain and Roberto Cavalli capture a wonderful dark romantic essence with their fresh take on the leather trend, teaming jet black wet look trench coats with chic leather berets, a sophisticated French appearance that has become popular with many, or the latest necessity, leather fitted shirts paired with matching flared pants creating the ultimate edgy tailored look. Stylist are all for experimentation but these new combinations more that rival last year’s double denim faze and, in some respects, based on the evidence so far, the new leather trends are set to leave it trailing behind. Another year on year classic for Stylist, is the immense excitement to see the return of autumn

winter catwalks and interestingly, the beloved animal print is back. But we anticipate a revitalised fresh version of the prints as the New Year rolls in. We were not left disappointed, as bold unusual colours were introduced and naturally regenerated the well-known pattern. This season, you can see an array of prints and patterns falling under the wild woman category. However, at the forefront is still the statement leopard print. Coming a close second is a wide range of reptile skin patterns and the monochrome zebra print appearing on everything from clothes, accessories to the all-important mule heel. These prints peaked in the early stages of autumn winter with the likes of designer Jcquemus sending models down the catwalk sporting gorgeous flowing dresses that just skimmed the lower leg whilst Versace showcased the well-known young Gigi Hadid, amazing an eager audience with a high fronted low backed tight fitting skirt, covered entirely with the monumental Versace logo and contrasting zebra striped design. This successful macro trend has been seen on catwalks and across all our favourite social media babe’s Insta pages, styling up the print with dreamy thigh high suede boots for that kick ass cocktail night outfit or a cute pair of clinical white trainers, for a more casual approach to what is considered to be a dressy trend. Tonal dressing has definitely made an impact this season sporting the creation of show stopping looks with neutral beiges being thrown together with muddy browns. Max Mara is definitely a leader in the art of tonal dressing. His autumn winter collection made its debut at the ‘ready to wear aw19 show’ and left its onlookers longing for more earthy rich understated tones. The designs incorporated the classic suiting attire, and Max flipped it on its head, by using textured leathers and sophisticated suede elements within his designs which gave women a new take on power dressing. The collection featured within the ‘ready to wear show’ was without a doubt super feminine with a clever intended androgynous feel to its silhouettes and styles. Autumn and winter fashion, especially, over the last decade have seen a steady improvement in the styles available and now with the introduction of new man-made synthetic materials, improved colour pallets and patterns, this seasons designs have been welcomed with open arms and have seen a major increase in sales. It remains to be seen where the future of autumn winter fashion will takes us, but Stylist can’t wait to find out.

THE FF EDIT

FAN GIRLING OVER FEMALE SUCCESS

A little bit of Femspiration whilst commuting to your 9-5!

Join stylist’s in celebrating all the wonderful things women do, as we fna girl over our icons! Women of the world join in our celebration, we want to shout about all the wonderful past and present feminists that have changed the game over the years and are still making their mark right now. Here at HQ, we are honouring them within this issue! So, let’s talk about the F-word, feminism. The new generation of strong female figures are here, and they’ve been making their voices heard! Emma Watson, Jennifer Lawrence and Cara Delavigne are three of the icons alongside many others paving the way for women and girls globally. Speeches on the issue have gone viral, catwalks have showcased powerful quotes from inspira-

tional women and models have lead fashion protests. They’ve taken a stand, and we’re living for it! Nepalese-American fashion designer Prabal Gurung renewed the feminist message at New York fashion week, using the likes of Bella Hadid, who stormed the February 12th runway sporting the message, ‘THE FUTURE IS FEMALE’ and ’WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS’, since then we’ve seen brands such as the online female founded and entirely female run, ‘The Spark Company’ emerge in full support of the rediscovered style, we are all for this awesome brand as it was created to help the less fortunate at the time of the month we all despise by using a portion of the proceeds to buy and donate sanatory products to homeless and refugee women. They guarantee that their brand is 100% ethical, meaning no sweatshops or young children are used in the making of their garments.

The revitalised take on the feminist design has seen a successful launch, and media platforms have everything to do with it! Although this is not the first time these particularly phrases have found their way into the fashion industry, back in October 2015 we saw the lovely Cara pose with partner Annie Clarke styling up a sweatshirt showcasing the same slogan. There have been numerous campaigns and speeches given with the aim of empowering the female audience by the likes of Emma Watson, a British actress and goodwill ambassador for U.N. Women with her gender

equality ‘HeForShe’ movement back in 2014. The speech intended to actively involve men within the new gender movement that was originally pitched as ‘a struggle for women by men’. It was a smart, insightful and moving speech that tackled the inequality issue between the genders and offered ways in which we could approach change to make a difference in a supposed ‘male orientated’ world. Emma has since then launched a feminist book club ‘our shared shelf’ on Instagram with a dedicated following. It’s just another example of why we love the young actress other than her extreme beauty and amazing talent, her enthusiasm to the female cause is encouraging and uplifting. Today, brands, designers and well-known activists find it much easier to engage with the mass audiences, using social media to spread the message of equality and selfworth. In a post ‘#METOO’ world, online platforms play a huge part in providing a voice and an environment where women can connect in a powerful sisterhood. The speeches made and visual protests created are seen by the thousands that actively visit social sites daily. Women around the world can engage, empower and praise each other with positivity and a few friendly compliments about an outfit or two! It doesn’t matter if they are miles apart, the women standing together, are friends with a united interest. Beth Sanderson (cover star) told stylist in an exclusive interview that she had been inspired as a young girl, at the age of 15. She had watched her favourite female icons growing up in movies, on catwalks and in the news reports, but could only dream back then of becoming like them, well now aged 22, it’s a reality. We asked her what does being a female in 2019 mean to you? She said “I am free, I have the right to equal pay, and I can hold whatever job title I want but I know this was once not the case. I’d love to inspire future me’s to continue fighting for their gender, I want people to go out there and try new things. I want people to succeed.” We loved this idea and wanted to showcase more women with the same attitude about them, que Miriam Gonzalez.

Miriam is a true ambassador for inspiring women, she has said passionately that; “Every young woman should feel free to choose whatever she wants to do in life.” She founded the online campaign ‘Inspiring Girls Internationally’ in 2016, the platform was created with the intention of making it easier for girls around the world to have access to strong role models. There are so many women out there doing amazing things, and Miriam thinks everyone should be able to look to them to realise how many possibilities they can have in life. Leading by example is the best way to show the younger generation what they can achieve. Putting real ladies in front of pupils in schools or day centres will help them achieve their aspirations. Sharing experiences, demonstrating passion, showing hard work and drive can prove to young girls that their goals in life can be reached. The campaign is currently active across thirteen countries in three continents and they are expanding all the time. Prior to launching the ‘Inspiring Girls Internationally’ Miriam worked with the education and employers charity back in October 2013 to create Inspiring Women, a campaign that was a real success with 24,000 British volunteers signing up in record time. Girls around the world are benefiting from the efforts of Miriam and her wonderful tribe of strong female figures! We’re totally fan Girling over these fabulous ladies and all they represent. These are the women that all the little girl’s day dreaming somewhere sitting at school desks can look to. They demonstrate that females can do great things, they can achieve anything they put their minds too. Emma Watson, started off her career as young child actress never believing she could be where she is today, earning her own money, doing great things whilst earning the respect of everyone around her. Be inspired, because inspiration can lead to so many incredible things, just ask the girls reaping the rewards of Miriam’s programme, or the women no longer feeling inequal to the men around them in the workplace. Feminism has really moved on since the

2nd and 3rd waves. That is because of all the women we’ve mentioned and all the women we’ve yet to shout about. Stylist are all about following and supporting new exciting ‘girl bosses’ continuing the incredible work and hard efforts of those that have come before them, you can be sure we’ll be one of, if not the first to celebrate them, documenting their successes within the pages of print for years to come! So, let the future bring the next generation of powerful instrumental female voices!

INSTA BEAUTY

Following her recent deal with clothing company Pinkclove. co.uk Olivia, the viral social beauty talks to stylist about her insta fame and her self love routine! @SELFLOVELIV went viral back in 2017, following a specific powerful post about the stigma around spanx pants. Her personal Instagram account sports followers of 70k and she continues to inspire women and men of all ages! Documenting her own journey with mental health. She dedicates her page to promoting positive messages about body image and self-love.

Are you a social person in real life?

“I am! I love hanging out with my friends, going out on the town, but I also love chilling at home with my partner. I like to have a balance between the two.”

What things do you enjoy in your personal life?

“The one thing I love the most, is hanging out with my Grandma. She’s 93, a complete sasspot, and full of life and wisdom. She’s just so funny, and bossy, but for 93 I let her off.”

Do you have any specific tips for our readers for how you relax in your down time?

“I love taking a long hot bubble bath with candles and relaxing music. Self care comes in many forms, whether it’s going for a run, saying no to an upcoming event that you don’t want to go to, or just doing some yoga. There’s not a right or wrong way to practise self care.”

GOING INTO DETAIL WITH @SELFLOVELIV Has Instagram helped you become happier?

“Yes and no, yes because I get to help people every day and that fills me with happiness, and no because I unfortunately constantly compare myself to other people. Some people use social media as a highlight reel, and sometimes you can get consumed in other people’s lives.”

What are your future plans involving your social accounts, is there any avenue you want to explore?

“I’d love to get into youtube more, I have an account already but rarely post, so my mission for the new year is to post more regularly on my youtube account. Fashion is always a big interest of mine, so pherhaps a few more clothing avenues.”

Lastly are you a feminist?
