Hello everybody. This is the first issue of ‘Klebstoff’, put together by international artists with various backgrounds, who all share one passion – creating and spreading stickers. The result reveals a more artistic selection of stickers and is here to show that a sticker can tell way more than you might think of. Note: This is a magazine which is supposed to be used as a working tool, so feel free to peel and stick. You will need a second copy if you want to collect this book as a who is who - archive. No problems with that.

On_ly Caracas, Venezuela The spots for those stickers were not taken randomly. On_ly used her patch stickers for places that in her opinion were worth the attention: Reaching from neglected, crumbly plaster of a deserted house to a scratch of a fairy-tale castle or a rusty classic car telling of past luxury.
ZEK Crew Ljubljana, Slovenia The ZEK crew was established in 2001. It was primarily a graffiti crew, attempting street art and turning later on towards design. Today, nine members form this allround creative collective, including graphic, type, and industrial designers, graffiti writers, illustrators, an architect and a VJ. Mixing minimalism with kitsch, combining old styles with contemporary approaches, but not neglecting the tradition through the use of improvisation.

Dirk Sandbaumhüter Münster, Germany “In 2001 I found a huge package of advertising-stickers at my parents home, that I collected in my childhood. I painted and drew on them to cover my neighbourhood with a stupid logo that still remains as an sideproject. I still like to draw and paint my stickers by hand, but also use screenprinting or offset, if I can spend some money.”

Doppeldenk Leipzig, Germany “Doppeldenk”isisgerman germanfor fordoublethink, doublethink, but butwhat whatdoes does “Doppeldenk” doublethink mean? The concept of doublethink comes from George Orwell’s dystopian novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four” and describes the power of having two contradictionary beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. Unlock the Idea of George Orwell’s novel from total brainwash and combine it with self-responsible human acting you can achieve a new complex form of thinking. In this case you are able to accept the connection of two contradictionary relations and, as a conclusion, to create an own new conviction.
Waakabund Dresden, Germany Dylan montaak about waakabund: “Waakabund was born. His characters are charming animals and crazy guys. Edgy characters always arriving with good intentions – Sometimes with everyday speech babble, Sometimes with short, smart worldly wisdoms.”

Pixelpopulation Dresden, Germany Digitally drafted, pixel-style characters populate urban space, thus creating a parallel digital world on walls, dustbins, traffic lights or large-scale billboards. The first wave of civilisation came along with rocket birds and clouds populating the air in 2003 soon followed by astronautic rabbits, flying robots or bats. 2004 started the colonization on the ground. The project was presented at cynetart_humane 2006 for the first time. Straight after this presentation “pixel-population V.2.0 started. The aim of V.2.0 is an complete population consisting of characters of all social classes.
ttursk & rusack Joensuu, Finland “Casual hello from finland, the country of thousand islands in one big lake. With our stickers we try to create more dry surface in our country. Also, we want to balance serious and sad minds with happy colorful naivity. Our muse is a lovely woman called Viivi, whom we have never met but to whom we keep on sending nice postcards with poems. Stick responsibly! We love you all! It’s not art if it’s permanent.”
...and “ did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts hot ashes for trees hot air for a cool breeze cold comfort for change did you exchange a walk on part in a war for a lead role in a cage...“

Thomas & Martin Poschauko “Some lines about us: We`re both 27 years old (twins), living and working in Au b. Bad Aibling, a small village near the moutains in Bavaria. Even though we are working as ‘designers’ we don`t like design, if design means to make people more dumb or just to create ‘style’. In our works we want to tell storys with a good and real message.“

Saner & Mookiena Mexico City, Mexico “The sticker movement in Mexico is very big. Many people have choses this media to express their feelings, protests and moods. Like always there are talented artists and people who simply copy styles but in general the development within the country is increasingly positive. The act of taping in the streets is of political nature and shows that this place belongs to everyone and therefore may me designed by everyone.
Zonenkinder Frankfurt, Germany “Our philosophy is to replace the normal course of life with a colourful, surreal world of imagination while reflecting the necessities of reality and the ambivalence of life: Art is freedom, freedom from the order of daily life that is forced upon us and fences us in. In fact sometimes we do not really know what kind of art we create… often we just discover places which scream for color and revival or we suddenly see diffuse parts, faces, animals in a fresh painted wall and let it flow…”
