Cuyahoga Valley National Park Cuyahoga Valley National Park protects 33,000 acres along the banks of the Cuyahoga River between Akron and Cleveland, Ohio. It preserves and protects for public use and enjoyment the historic, scenic, natural and recreational values of the Cuyahoga River Valley and maintains the open space necessary to the urban environment.

Virginia Kendall Crowning this section of the park’s Virginia Kendall unit are high sandstone bluffs, a large outcropping of Sharon Conglomerate some 320 million years old. This is known as the Ledges and includes the CCC-designed Overlook, a vantage point for a vista of forested ridgelines to the northwest. The Ledges Shelter was designed by Albert H. Good of Akron in 1933 and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It includes a covered pavilion and a two-story building once a caretaker’s residence. The Shelter is built of wormy chestnut and sandstone, materials native to the region.

Ways to Get Involved Become a member, volunteer, hike the trails, advocate for the National Park, donate, sponsor an acre, shop Park Place and Trail Mix, run the Towpath – there are hundreds of ways you can become involved in Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association and Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
