Re-Cap “Didn’t I tell you to be home before the street lights?” My brother John raged as I entered our home. “And what are you doing out this late anyway!” “John, look. I know you told me to be home before the streetlights, I know this. I just got caught up in some things.” I replied “Well you’re in a shit load of trouble now little brother. Get your tail up those steps and into your room.” He assured. “Please don’t let this happen again, baby bro. I really hate yelling at you. I do love you.” He began to glare at me, and quite frankly, I didn’t feel the love. “Ugh” I groaned. “What ever.” “Excuse me?” He started towards me. “Oh-oh nothing.” I lied, trying to hold back much anger. “Yeah that’s what I thought.” He smirked. “Now hurry up and take your butt up to your room.”
John, he is my older brother. My only brother. He’s kind of like a parent to me, but not really my real one. Ever since my father passed over, John has been trying to be a real man. I just wasn’t ready for him trying to be too manly. My father was shot to death, murdered in his own living room. At the time I was only three years young. The thought of my dad being gunned down is a hard image to get rid of. The day he was assassinated, he spoke a few words to me. Words that sounded like understatements. He told me that he “loved” my brother and me, and he had some “business to attend to”. My intuition was telling me that something wasn’t right, but I just looked over that gut feeling. I could have prevented his death, but I was too young and clueless. My uncle Brian was the one who brought us the ill-hearted news. Mother seemed to be deeply bothered by the news.
My first year in school was truly easy. All I ever did was eat, sleep and shit. I was hooked on peanut butter for some reason. The prekindergarten teacher that I had was less than adorable. She stood about six feet, which was kind of disturbing to begin with, and plus she was big and looked heavy. Her skin always resembled a cheap oily product that you buy from like fake ass boutique at the flea market or something of that nature. I only acted like I liked her because she let me stuff my face all day long. My teacher would always bring her jacked up looking boy toy to the classroom, flaunting him as if he was attractive, in which he wasn’t. He looked like an overcooked pinto bean, but that’s just me being generous.
My friends were limited. My devilish ways began to build up and frightened them away. I stole their lunches, not because I didn’t have my own, but only to anger them. I thought that everyone else should be angry since I was. But they all had their dads so they were all peachy keen about every damn thing, and that made me jealous. In high school I had to repeat the 9th grade because I fooled around the whole time I was supposed to be doing my work. But by senior year I had my own car, a Toyota Camry. The color was a little faded but it ran and that’s all that mattered to me. When graduation strolled around the corner, I zoomed up and across that stage, accepting my diploma and smiling so hard my cheeks started to hurt. I was presented with a full ride scholarship to whatever college I chose. I majored in English, and minored in psychology. My college years were the best!
Shortly after college, I received a high paying job as an editor and a play writer at the Byron James building along ways from my home. But of course, before all of my success I had to go through a lot of adversity. My life before success awaits...
Bad News
Chp.1
It was the night of my fourth birthday. Mother, John and me had just returned home from Celebration Station. We had a huge party, just for me, and I loved it. A couple of days before, my father left without telling
my brother or my mom. I was compelled to fib and say that he didn’t tell me anything.
When we got in and fully settled after the party, the phone rings. Looking onto the caller ID, mom quickly identified Uncle Brian. Mother picks up the phone and greets him. “Hey Brian what can I do for you?” “Hello” He spoke with a depressed tone. “I have something to drop off with you guys.” “Well what is it Brian? We just got back from my boys birthday party, please don’t let it be a burden?” “I’m so very sorry” He stumbled over his words “BRIAN! What is it?” “It’s about the boys’ father.” He stated. “Oh my god is he okay?” “The boys’ father was killed; he was shot to death in his living area for kidnapping the Queen of England. Don’t ask me why he did it, I just know he did.” He wept “Oh my you can’t be serious Brian!” Mom gasped “Oh but I am very serious” He said “How are the boys going to take this? Oh man we can’t tell them, not just yet, no.” “No you have to tell them, it’s their father!” He yelled “I KNOW WHO HE IS TO MY CHILDREN, and I said that we shouldn’t tell them, not just yet.” “Whoa calm down, I’m just being a little suggestive.” He smarted “And yet your advice is gratuitous.”
“Well then I guess I should be going now.” He sighed “I guess your right but answer me this. Why would I tell my sons that their father passed away if he didn’t love me or them?” “You see and that’s where your wrong baby girl. He loves you and the boys. Very much. Know what you’re talking about before you start talking. It’s the easiest way to look smart.” He hangs up the phone angrily
After Uncle Brian hung up the phone, mom worked her way up the staircase to notify us. She has no clue that I was hiding behind the sofa, listening in on their conversation. I run up the stairs after her to hear the news that I already heard. John took it very well, no cry or anything.
The following day we all go the church to view the body before its burial. When we arrived, people were already lined up at the door, trying to get close seating or something. I thought to myself wow I guess more people loved him than I imagined. I glance at the loved one’s and then the youth, and they looked like they had no clue why they were here. Minutes later, an older woman approaches me, scaring me half to death by her jacked up skin. As she got closer I took notice to how decrepit her face really was, and her condolences were just a part of the show she put on. Her voice was like a cacophony to my ears, I couldn’t fathom her existence. “I’m so sorry about your loss, she was a wonderful woman.” She stammered. And I’m realizing that her mind is as decrepit as her face. “Look you old piece of shit, my dad was a man! And I want my daddy back!” I raged
Mother pulled me back before I could really let her know how I felt. Mom begun to drone on and on about why I should respect old folk, but my ears pretended to consume her inspiring words, in which lead to her hitting me upside my head with her holy novel. We began to enter the church and capture our seats, and then another woman comes to me and offers her sympathy, in which was redundant, so I ignored her ass. This time mother didn’t care, simply because this lady was the same who was caught giving it up to my dad. Mom kicked her ass, HA some Christian.
The pastor guy comes out of this small closet looking room, and we all arose as if he were God. He began to speak about why we were gathered there that day. He kept stating the fact that my father was killed for doing something so idiotic. After the service we all went out to eat at my dad’s favorite restaurant, White Castle. Thanks to my dad’s fancy insurance plan, we were able to order whatever we wanted.
While we devoured all of those nice, succulent sliders, mother wanted an honest answer from me; only because I was there the day he left for that ‘business trip’ he told me about. “Son, did your father tell you anything about an overseas business trip or anything like that?” My stare became blank, and my mouth dropped. “No mom, he told me nothing” Of course I felt all demented for lying to my mother but I had to. I just couldn’t take the blame for his death, and I damn sure didn’t want my mother or anybody else for that matter, all on my sack about me not stopping my dad from ruining his life.
We left the restaurant holding our stomachs as if we all just swallowed a cow. In the car, tunes were playing. My dad’s favorite. I could tell that mom was a little upset about the whole thing. When we got home, mom picked up the phone and dialed up her sister in-law. I overheard their secretive conversation and was devastated by the outcome. I can almost remember their exact words. “Hello.” Janie says. “How are you doing?” “Not so good” Mom answered, looking around to make sure she wasn’t being watched. “Bad actually” “Well tell me what’s on your mind.” She suggested. “I’m here for you’re always.” “I can’t… I can’t handle this, Janie.” Mom stressed. “Oh honey child let me know what it is that’s bothering you. Stress can knock you down if you let it, come on baby I’m here for you. Now what’s wrong?”
“I don’t think that I can take care of my boy anymore.” Mom cried out. “I love him with all of my heart, but Lord knows my little heart can’t take the pain. I’m just not a good enough mother.” “Sugar, I can’t do too much financially. Money is a little tight down here.” She replied. “It’s not that Janie… I need something bigger from you.” Mom said, trying to rejuvenate herself. “And what is that?” She asked “I need you to take him from me. Just take him out of my hands before I fuck him over. Please just give him a better life. A better childhood.” Mom sniveled. “Because I love your boy’s and I truly hate that my brother is gone, I will take the little one off of your hands...” She accepted mom’s challenge. “How soon can you get him down here?” “By noon. Tomorrow.” Mom assured “Umm okay, okay sister girl. I’ll get a room ready for him in a jiffy.” She said “Okay I’ll just scrape up the last of my money, for a plane ticket.” Mom sniffled “Didn’t you get the insurance money he signed up for?” She asked “Yes I did, but I want to save it for my boys’ college.” Mom said “Great thinking.” She applauded. “But hey, if you fuck me on this, I will spare no expense on your ass. You got that?” “Yes ma’am I do. And thank you once again. You are a true lifesaver.” Mom praised “That I am. I have got to be going now. Let me know when you put him on the plane okay?” She said “I’ll be sure to let you know, bye.” Mom hung up the phone, and then dashed up the staircase.
I made it up to my room before she could be able to tell that I was listening in on her conversation. Mom explained to me the news, and I acted like I didn’t know already. She packed some bags for me, not telling me how long I was to be gone. She then drove me to the airport and watched me get on the plane. I watched her call Janie to let her know that she was seeing me off, and it wasn’t until then that I finally wanted my mom on my arm.
The flight was bumpy and it freaked me out really bad. I arrived in country ass Austin, Texas and Aunt Janie was waiting for me outside. She gave me a huge hug and we were off to the house. When we pulled into the driveway and I couldn’t help but notice some country ass looking people standing on the add-on-after-seven-long-ass-years-and-finallygetting-tired-of-walking-up-a-step-ladder-to-get-through-the-front-door, porch. I figured they were part of the family, so I handed them my belongings thinking they would take them up to my room for me, but no, they took off. I was so damn tired and worn out from that bumpy ass plane ride; I didn’t even run after them. Aunt Janie did say a few things in the act of simple defense. She blurted out things like “Get back here you stupid bastard” and “Don’t let me catch you around here again or I’ll kick your ass up and around this city!” When we got into the house, she began to tell me everything I needed to know about surviving in Austin, and in my mind I’m screaming “I AM ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD FOR CORN’S SAKE!” It was a little weird how my mind worked while I was a child. I blame it on whom and what I was around for my four years alive. Meanwhile, she showed me to my room, I was glad that I wasn’t going to have to share a room. The room that she showed me to was fabulous in all the right places. Wooden door, unlike the others in the house. The knob wasn’t all knobby, it was a nice firm handle with that warm feeling to it like somebody lit it on fire and hurried up to put it out before they got caught. The walls were an off red color like my brother’s earlobes and my mom’s tuna casserole. The closet was big enough for me to perform exorcisms, and oh boy the bed was big enough for me too have as many female nurses as I dreamed of. But as I completed the tour, it all seemed a little too good to be true, so I asked Janie if I was worth all of this and she said “Oh I’m so sorry baby, this is the guest room. Boy I’m getting so damn old my memory is rusting.” I was so upset and wandering what box I was going to be sleeping in. She walked me to the eastside of the house, and then placed me in a room that was just fair. Realizing that those wacky looking people robbed me earlier, I didn’t have any luggage to throw around the room. My beloved teddy near Mr. Tumbles was in that bag. Those God dammed crazy people probably assassinated my baby.
Aunt Janie left the room leaving me with nothing to grub on. How can she just leave a four-year-old boy without at least a loaf of bread and some syrup? Lord knows you can do a lot with some bread and some syrup.
My First Day at School
Chp.2
It was a Monday morning, and the first day of school. I had no idea where I was enrolled, so I decided to hit up Aunt Janie so she can fill me in. I strolled down the stairs, smelling coffee and donuts, finally running into Aunty. “Good morning aunty.” “Oh hey there sweetie, come give your Aunty some sugar.” She greeted I leaned in and kissed her warm cheek, smiling all big and shit. “So where will I be going to school, aunty?” “It’s a small school right up the street from here. Omega Elementary.” She said “Is it a good school?” I asked. “Because I don’t need anything messing me up!” I giggled “It shouldn’t be that bad. I mean it’s pretty new.” She replied “Wait why do I even have to start school this early? John said that he started school when he was five. I’m only four. Just turned four if you didn’t know already.” I sighed sarcastically “Your not John and plus your mom wants the best education for her baby boy, so hurry and get dressed. The bus is on its way.” She explained “Okay fine.” I smirked
I threw on a pair of blue jean pants and a black long-sleeved sweatshirt. Aunt Janie had somebody go to her cousin’s house to borrow some clothes from a kid my age, but he died in a car wreck a few years ago. He would have been seven. I woke up in the middle of the night to go use the bathroom, and then tripped over two big ass bags of clothes. After I finished cursing out the bags for trying to kill me, I finally was able to piss like I needed to. Minutes into my getting dressed, Aunty yelled up to me. “James, come on now. The bus is outside!” “Coming, one second please?” I yelled back “Boy get your tail down here!” She butted-in “Yes ma’am I’m coming!” I grinned and ran swiftly down the stairs, kissing her goodbye as I passed through the door.
So I walked up the bus steps and then I started for the isle when I laid eyes on the cutest girl. Her hair was long, and her skin was radiant. When our eyes met, my private part began to press against my zipper. The freakiest thing happened when she told me that I could sit by her, my heart dropped from being nervous. “Hey I’m Meagan.” She greeted “And I’m James. I’m new around here.” I replied “Really oh my gosh me too. I’m from Chicago. Where are you from?” She asked “I’m from Ohio.” I said
When she turned her head to face the window, I quickly flipped my sex up into my waistband, and then resumed conversing with her. As she shared with me her story about why she moved to Austin, I admired her four-year-old body. Her lips seemed to be full, and glowing from the sweet layer of carmex. I fell in love with her so fast; I had to catch up with myself. Meagan then started to tell me about the school, considering that she had been going there for a year.
“James, man I’ve got to tell you.” She turned towards me. “This school is kind of rough. I mean there are bullies on every corner, seems like. What ever you do, don’t let them think that you are scared because they will test you.” “Thank you for telling me this, Meagan.” I responded “But I lived in the upper part of Ohio, I wasn’t even allowed to be scared of anything.” “The braver you are the less you have to worry about. Lucky you.” She sighed “Well have you ever been bullied into doing anything?” I asked earnestly “Of course, look at me! I’m pretty!” She laughed I laughed and then said, “yes you are”. “Aw thanks for the complement. No one’s ever told me this before.” She stressed “DANG are you for real?” I giggled. “When I first saw you, I thought you were really pretty.” “Yeah I kind of noticed you slipping it up into your waistband.” She smirked. “I have an older brother; he does it when ever Baywatch comes on.” “My brother never tells me about his female peoples. It kind of makes me feel like he doesn’t want me in his life when he leaves me out like that.” I said “Yeah some brothers are like that. They think they’re too cool to let four year olds in on their personal life.” She humored “I can tell that we are going to be the best of friends.” I smiled “I hope so.” She whispered into my ear as if she didn’t want to be heard.
We pulled up to the school and got off the bus. The school was intact and nothing seemed to be out of whack, until I got inside that is. The walls were jailhouse grey, the floors weren’t even tiled, and it was like
they just threw that shit together. After having read the piece of paper on the wall, I had to head over to Mrs. Jameson’s room. I looked once more and found that Meagan was in my class too. A tingly felling came over me. I walked around the building, in search of my homeroom. Finally, I stumbled across room 37 and saw Meagan motioning for me to come in. “James, in here! Come in before this seat is taken!” She shouted I ran and grabbed the seat next to her so fast; the wind was nibbling on my dust. “Thanks” “Oh no problem. As best friends it’s our duty to help each other out.” She sang The moment she said that we were best friends, I wanted to be more than just best friends. “Oh no, I’m in the best friend zone.” “Well of course. Don’t you want to be my friend?” She asked “Well yeah I do…” I started “And plus if we liked each other my dad would have a bitch fit.” She said. “But hey, you never know, we might be married in about fifteen years.” I spaced out when she spoke those words to me. “James? James is you okay?” She said moments after my black out spell “Yes…yes I am okay.” I stuttered “Are you sure? You kind of had a blank stare on you face.” She said “Sorry, I am okay though really.” I lied
The teacher entered the room, and I noticed that she was one of the old ladies at my dad’s service. The one who called my dad a woman. Man I wanted to expel that heifer form life permanently as soon as I saw her. “Hello class, my name is Mrs. Jameson and I’ll be your teacher for the remainder of the year.” She began I leaned over to Meagan and said “what the hell is this old piece of shit doing out in the daylight?”
“Oh don’t be mean. I bet she’s really nice.” Meagan joked “No, I know her. She was at my dad’s service! That lady is freaking Looney for real though!” I whispered loudly “James you are funny.” Meagan giggled “But I’m serious though.” I sat back up right Mrs. Jameson noticed us talking and then came up to us with a devilish grin on her yucky ass face. “Hello my little children of the corn, what are we talking about here? Would you mind sharing with the class what ever it is you think is funny?” “Umm what we have going on here is none of your business Mrs. Jameson, now get off my nerves!” I said “So I have a few smart ones on my hands huh?” She asked herself “I’ve been smart, lady.” I smarted She pulled me by my shirt, thinking aloud how she was to punish me. This didn’t sit well with me at all. “Look lady I think you better get you saggy ass mittens off my damn shirt. This isn’t even mine!” I hollered, drawing much attention to myself “Yeah what ever little boy.” She mumbled “Watch this” I picked up the little twenty-pound chair and then busted her upside her big mammoth ass head and calmly excused myself. She struggled when she yelled, “Get back here now!” I turned around to face the classroom and her swollen face “fuck you, I’m mad as hell at you right now.”
I ran all the way home, leaving Meagan behind. I beat myself up trying to think of a nice lie when it came down to telling my aunty why I was back so soon. By the time I got home I planned on telling her that school was let out early. And if she asked why I was breathing so hard, I
would tell her that I was in a rush to see her. I figured she’d want to hear a pretty lie instead of the ugly truth.
Call from School
Chp.3
I woke up the next day with a nervous twitch. I was scared of the teacher calling Aunt Janie while she was at work, which would be a disaster. What would be even worse is for the principal or even the cops calling the house.
Just as was contemplating the thought of my punishment, the phone rang. I tried to fight the temptation of me looking at the caller Id but it didn’t work as well as I hoped. Aunt Janie just so happened to trot down the stairs after I found that It was my school calling. She answered with a mighty churchwoman voice. “Hello?” “Uh yes hello, this is Jackson Hues, the principal down at Omega Elementary. How are you this morning?” He greeted “I’m doing fine, and you?” She answered with a question filled tone “I’m doing great this morning but I’m afraid I have some news regarding your son, James.” He stated She turned and glared at me, and then resumed her conversation. “Yes sir what is it?” “I’m calling on behalf of a Mrs. Jameson. She has told me that your boy James ht her with a chair.” He began to explain why he has called “Excuse me?” She sounded surprised “She has showed me her face and it is swollen. Are you aware of this incident?” He asked
“I’m afraid not sir. Let me call him down now.” She said She hollered my name, jump-starting my nervous system, sending sweat down my forehead. “James come here now.” “Coming.” I answered softly When I got to her, she turned to me again but this time her glaring at me almost made me shit on myself. “James, tell me you didn’t hit this lady so I can let this man go.” “I didn’t hit this lady.” I lied “Boy don’t lie to me. Did you or didn’t you smack this lady in the face with a chair?” She fumed I thought about lying again but I couldn’t put her through any trouble, after all, she is taking care of me. “I had to. She was yanking my chain.” “Oh my gosh boy why?” She smacked her thigh as if it was her fault. “Boy do you realize how much trouble I’m in? DO YOU?” She raged “I’m sorry Aunty but I can’t just have people in face like that.” I frowned She backhanded me so fast, I lost track of time. Her powerful slap sent me about seven steps up the staircase. I could tell that she was upset with me. I listened in to the rest of their conversation. “Okay sir, what can I do to clear all this up?” She stressed “Well there is one thing…” He said. “He could do a little community service. With Mrs. Jameson, in her garden.” “Done.” She closed the deal “Okay have him at 1136 Thompson Street, 3rd house down on the left. Saturday afternoon. 12:00pm.” He said “No problem, he’ll be there.” She replied. “Thanks so much!” She hung up the phone and then made her way to the butcher knife set on the kitchen counter, ready to end her life. I sprinted down to pull her away. “Aunty don’t do this!”
“No, I want the pain to stop” She said “Maybe, but I need you here. Mom left me. She can’t do a damn thing for me. I need you aunty!” “Oh I see you found out.” She recovered “I already knew. I heard you guys talking when we got back from my party! How could she be so weak! She was right, she isn’t the best mother. Hell she isn’t even a mother!” I seethed “Aw sugar, don’t be like that. She loves you. Very much.” She defended. “She just couldn’t support you financially.” “Oh and I’m guessing you can?” I laughed hysterically “Now you hold up there cowboy! I would watch my damn tongue! Especially if you’re not paying the bills! I can support you. But like I told your mom, you better not mess around, because I won’t waste a penny getting you out of the gutter.” I took some correction and a deep breath. “I’m sorry aunty.” “It’s okay honey. Just don’t let it happen again, or I’ll rip that pretty little ass of yours right off.” She joked. “How about some pizza? From Godfathers.” “I would like that.” I smiled
We left the war zone, and entered the living room.
Aunty dialed up the pizza place, and ordered two large Canadian bacon and sausage pizzas, in which I didn’t care for considering that I was a pepperoni man. But I played along and had a great time just for my aunty. After we finished the food, she told me what I didn’t want to hear. She told me about the phone call with the principal. “James, your school principal wants you to help Mrs. Jameson in her garden, this Saturday. No exceptions. You have got to do this or you will get suspended.” She announced “Nope.” I argued
“You have to boy.” She yelled. “If you don’t, you will be kicked out of school. Don’t you want to get an education?” “Yes I do want to learn stuff but I hate that lady!” I said “Then maybe next time you will think before you act.” She raised her brow “Oh but I did think before I hit her. I thought about hitting her in the stomach but I didn’t want to get into trouble” I replied. “Well you’re going and that’s that.” She demanded. “I know you hate her but you will apologize when you get there too.” “I’m glad you know that I hate her.” I smarted. “So we are cool right aunty?” “No, I’m cool. You’re in trouble.” She declined “Wow, you have a pretty high opinion of yourself don’t you think?” I muttered “I sure do, I know I’m the bomb!” She laughed
The rest of that evening eased on by, connecting her and me much closer.
Untitled
Chp.4
The following morning was the day where I wanted to go look around the neighborhood. I wanted to see the streets, view the homes, be adventurous and stuff. So I did. I put on some shoes and a snazzy sweater, and headed through the front door. As I strolled down the block, a jacked up looking mutt ran up and started to sniff my legs. I tried to ignore it and keep on walking, but the dog didn’t want to stop. With no mercy, I kicked the dog in the nose so hard; its eyes began to bleed. I stood there and watched it convulse. When it finally died, I stepped over it and keep on strolling. As I walked down the right side of the street, I started to feel horribly about killing that poor little dog, so I turned back. When I got back to view the body, I found that it was already lunch for the vultures. Pitching my fear aside, I picked up a nearby brick and
chunked it at the killer bird. It flew off into the skies, and I bolted over to the dog and swiped it up. Sadly its neck was nearly gone, so I decided to go ahead and burry it. Cruising alongside the road, I’m continuously singing to the poor dog “I’m sorry, don’t worry, you’ll be in a hole soon” Until I nearly broke my leg, falling into a semi-deep hole in the dirt. I gently place the dog in the hole and covered it with rocks and other items that were surrounding me at the time. The burial was complete and the repulsive looking dog traumatized me.
DAYS PASS…SATURDAY CREEPS UP…
The Garden
Chp.5
After I explored the neighborhood and buried the dog, I went back home to prepare for the torture that awaited me at Mrs. Jameson’s place. Aunty thought she was telling me something that I didn’t know before when she said, “Apologize when you get there, and be kind. Remember you did bust her upside the head with a chair.” But I nodded like a never heard her say that before.
I retrieved the mini shovel that lay on the coat rack and jumped in the car with Aunt Janie. It took some time for us to get there because aunty wasn’t all that great with directions, but we finally reached our destination. Mrs. Jameson was standing outside, awaiting my arrival. Her foot tapped at a steady pace as I got out of the car. A mysterious smirk came over her face as I approached her. ‘Hello James, how are we this afternoon?” She asked “I’m okay, now can we get this done already?” I responded
“I’m glad to hear that.” She said. “I have a little something for you.” “Oh cool what is it?” I digressed “Right this way” She grinned while walking us through her French doors.
Her place wasn’t as I expected, it was clean. Plants were everywhere. As we came to the back door, my heart dropped lower and lower. She opened the door and I stepped onto the patio. Looking around at her strange back yard. I could’ve sworn that I was in a rainforest. “Have fun.” She started back inside. “Wait what the heck is this?” I yelled “It’s my garden.” She answered calmly I took a double take at that garden of hers and then said “this aint no garden.” “Don’t complain. Just go get the gardening tools and start pulling the weeds.” She ordered “Well can you get them for me? I’m kind of new around her and I don’t know where you keep your tools!” I answered sarcastically “Use your hands little boy.” She hollered. “Young people these days can’t even do some simple gardening.” She said while dismissing herself.
I swallowed my pride and carried on with what I was supposed to do. Entering the bushes slowly, picking up all the pieces to this puzzle. I thought she was really trying to make me suffer for what I done to her. But I continued anyway. I looked up and saw vines, branches and all kind of itchy things that were only grown here to kill me. Squirrels were swinging from branch to branch, knocking nuts off the trees. I got so irate that grabbed a rock and chunked it at one of them, sending it all the way to the ground from the Tipp top branch. When I started for the rodent, a snake jumped from the bushes and snatched it away, leaving my heart
beating harder and faster than ever. Mrs. Jameson hears the entire racket and decided to come out and see what was up. “Whoa what’s all that noise? “What do you have me working in you evil witch?” I yelled Ignoring my question she responded, “Oh good you’re alive. You may want to watch out for pretty.” “Who is that?” I screamed “You’ll see…” She giggled
She went back inside and closed the door behind her. I began to wander who and what in the world is “pretty”. I didn’t know if I were to be eaten by a freakishly large hamster or devoured by an extremely small lizard. All the possibilities were there. Meanwhile, I picked up my shovel and drove it into the soil. After stabbing the ground so many times, I ran across something that made a bog BOOM noise when I hit it. I dug a little deeper…and then some deranged animal jumped out of the ground and pierced my bottom lip. I suck it to get the pain to stop, and all of the while this tiny dog stood inches from me. It had one big protruding tooth that tickled me pink. I took off in fear of losing my life, but most of all I didn’t want that mix breed gone wrong to damage my four year old lips.
I finally got far enough away to take a deep breath. I continued with my deadbeat job, watching my back from all angles as I pulled weeds from the dry cracked soil. As I finished up pulling the weeds, I called out to Mrs. Jameson, letting her know that I have completed the life-endangering chore. “I’m done, I’m done!” I called out She shot out the house slowly, as if she were a turtle in a race. “Coming”
As she walked towards my fat lip, and me that creature snatched her up and dragged her into the bushes. Her cries for help affected me, not. I sprinted past her in search of a sharp object so that I could slit her throat while she was already being devoured by this hideous mishap. I
stumbled over a common household preserved mammoth tooth, and then ran back to her, finding that the damn thing killed her already. Man I was fierce. Quickly, I threw the tooth among the forest, and then ran towards her with guilt chasing me. I helped her into the house, and onto the sofa, and then dialed the emergency hotline. After I gave them the address, I hung up and rubbed her forehead gently.
The Confessional
Chp.6
The same day, they had me in this compact interrogational room. Asking me every kind of question they could to make me trip. “You were the only one there, James. Who else could have done this to an innocent old lady?” The detective spat all over my face While abrading the nasty saliva from my mouth, I replied “She may have been old but she was not innocent, Mr. She set me up for a day of hell!” “But you did hate her, right? I mean you hit her with a chair.” He calculated. “I see no other motive.” “Look man I couldn’t stand her but I would never kill her.” I said “Hmm are you sure about that?” He accused Even though I didn’t enjoy his accusatory tone, I responded anyway. “Yeah I’m pretty sure.” “Okay well let me ask you this little boy. Why would you want to end her life this way, huh? How could you do such a thing?” He rubbed his forehead “First of all, I she wasn’t all innocent as you think. And secondly, I didn’t kill her!” I defended “Well who did? Who could have done this?” He asked
“This weird dog thing.” I started. “With its huge tooth!” “You can’t be serious.” He jerked away from the table. “Somebody get me some freaking coffee.” “I’m serious though.” I answered truthfully. “I wanted to kill her.” “I KNOW YOU DID! I KNOW YOU DID! AND I WILL GET THE TRUTH ONE WAY OR THE OTHER!” He promised “Look I can save you the trouble and tell you the truth right now. But you better stop yelling at me like I’m a three year old or something.” I said “This kid…” He laughed while sitting back down at the table. “How are you talking this way? You only a kid.” “I have been through some things.” I said. “So I was pulling the weeds like she told me and then out jumped this miniature beast when she was coming to see how my work was coming.” “And that’s it?” He asked “Yep that’s it mister.” I assured “How do I know if what you say is the truth?” He asked “I couldn’t care less if you believe me or not. I know it’s the truth.” I smarted “Oh I…I believe you, I do.” He replied “Good then. I can go home.” I asked Changing the subject, he says “But you didn’t tell me how it killed her.” “Does it really matter? She’s dead. A jacked up mutt killed her. That’s all that needs to be written down.” I replied “No that’s not how it works buddy.” He said. “But you can go on a twenty minute break. You better come back too. We have some unfinished business.” “Yeah what ever.” I muttered
I shot through the door and into the outside. Aunt Janie stood there all eager to know what was going on in the interrogation room. “What happened?” She asked “Oh nothing, really.” I lied once more. “They still think that I done it.” “Well you didn’t do it, right?” She miffed “No. No I didn’t. I thought you were on my side here.” I frowned “I’m not taking sides, I just wanted to know who and what did it.” She preached “And I already went over this with you.” I recalled “Stop talking so smart to me boy! I have had enough of your being able to talk as if you are grown. Boy you aren’t grown.” She seethed “I’m sorry I was forced into grown up things back in Ohio! I guess mother didn’t tell you everything! I was always around to see her be all-open and stuff! I was always around to see my mother…my mommy do bad things. That’s why I loved my dad so much because he didn’t mess me up in the head! And now that he’s gone, I can’t take this world head on!” I cried out
The detective called me back into his office, and I went, not looking back at Aunt Janie. When we got back into the heat filled room, the questioning began immediately. “So let’s get this show on the road shall we?” He played “Please?” I said “I want more from you, James.” He ordered “What more could you possibly need? I told you all that I know.” I argued “I have only one more question and then you’re free to go.” He said
“Go ahead…” I instructed “Why did you do it? Why did you take her life away?” He asked once more “I’m out of here man.” I roared “You hold up there little one, I’m not going to take took much more of these verbal insults!” He promised. “That piece of shit you speak of was MY MOTHER!” He shouted “Oh my bad. The fault is mine. But hey your not alone dude, my mom is a prick too.” I joked to ease my punishment “No your mother wasn’t a prick, fucked her last night.” He said “What?” I asked, for a repetition of his previous words “You see it’s not cool to talk about someone’s mother, let alone, kill her!” He raged The moment he spoke those horrid words, I felt my eyes darken. I jumped up, grabbed the clipboard from the table, and started to bash his face in. When he fell to his knees, I hit him one good time in the nose. As he bleeds, I raged even more, taking all my anger that I had from my father being killed out on him. The guards on the other side of the door burst in and wrestle me off of the injured man. They tied my hands with cheap rope, and then carted me out of the room, into another.
NIGHT PASSED AND MORNING APPROACHED…
I woke up on the floor in a darkened room. I look around, trying to find a familiar setting. After struggling to find something I knew, the door opens slowly. It was Aunt Janie; in her hand she had a bag of clothes. “Son, what in heavens name were you thinking about?” She asked “Listen…” I started but Aunt Janie butted in
“No you listen. I’m tired of you messing up my life. So you’re staying here until further notice.” She informed “No I’m sorry Aunty!” I cried. “I’ll do better I promise!” “I can’t risk it anymore James. I love you and you know this. But I just can’t do it.” She saddened “So you’re giving me up just like my mom? You knew it was going to be hard taking care of me but you agreed to make my life way better. And now that I’ve put you through a bit of hell, you’re letting me go?” I Wept “I’m sorry honey…” She apologized while dismissing herself
Top Floor
Chp.7
Aunty left the clothing on the floor, and left. I sighed for minutes upon hours. Hitting myself, cursing myself out, wandering why I can’t control myself.
Hours into the day, some people came and got me. They roomed me on the top floor, floor twenty-five. I could tell that they wanted me away form all the others in the building. For the first couple of hours that I was up there in my new room, I found that there were no assholes lurking the halls. That installed confidence in my little body. But the next morning brought something along that wasn’t too enjoyable.
I wake up on a hard mattress, and sat up. I glanced around the room to see if anything is different but nothing was. But what was different was the janitor staring into my room through the little glass window on the door. I quickly scrambled through my things and grabbed hold of my toothbrush. The strange man went away. I went and got some plastic wrap from the filthy sink in the corner and then wrapped the bristles, several times in a row. I ran to the heater that was hovering over my bed and held my brush up against it so the plastic could harden quickly. It came out to be as sharp as a tack. Superb.
I waited several minutes for the bastard to come back, and of course he did. I hid in the closet as he unlocked my door. He slowly crept inside; trying to be as quiet ass a mouse but was as quiet as a Denzel fan. Sure enough, he came around to the closet. He reached in and snatched me up and then threw me on the bed eagerly. “Let me go! Now!” I screamed “Hold still boy, it’ll be quick.” He insisted. He placed his left over my mouth and used his right hand to unzip his pants. I bit his funky ass hand and then screamed “fire” when he pulled away. He slammed me into the wall, and banged my head up against it like he was trying to kill a roach. It was then that I retrieved my shank and drove it into his gut. His weight was a huge contribution to his fall. When he hit the cold ground, I twisted and turned the shank until he stopped breathing. I opened the door, looked both ways as if I were crossing the street, and then went back to tie the mans hands and feet with the heater cords. I dragged him down twenty-four flights of stairs, making every step worse each time. Blood was parading out of his every pore.
I finally reached the first floor, and there was no one to be seen. So I pitched the man into the massive heater that stood just inches from his bleeding corpse. I waited for a few minutes, until I was sure he was dead.
As I made my way back up to my room, I began to rue the day and every day that I’ve caused some one some sort of pain. But I didn’t have that much regret for that man. He has no idea what he has just done to my perception of grown men.
Repercussions
Chp.8
Later that day, a stench arose and roamed the halls aimlessly, and recklessly. People began to exit their rooms in a non-orderly fashion, but I stayed in my room. I stayed in there until I came to the conclusion that
maybe I should go out and pretend to have no clue what that disgusting smell was, instead of staying in my room collecting suspicion. Some boy came and asked, “Do you smell that?” “Yeah what I that?” I acted “I don’t know, but I think its spoiled soup.” he guessed. “Anyway, you should come on down with the rest of us. We all want to see what that smell is.” “Nah, I think that I’m just going to hang around in my room.” I said “Aw come on it’ll be fun.” he replied “Would it kill you to be a little adventurous?” He asked “Okay let’s go!” I gave in We went on down to the first floor, and begun to sniff out the ‘mysterious smell’. The boy that came to get me from my room was Jason. I just heard people call him that. The owner of the institution approached me with some interesting yet, strange words. “I saw you. It was you.” He accused “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I lied “Please don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about.” He insisted. “Come with me. I’ll show you the tape.” He pulled me by my sleeve but I weirdly, I didn’t beat him with a balled up fist, and then took me too this office that was similar to the interrogating room I was in earlier on. “You guys have cameras?” I asked, rhetorically “What do you think this is? No we don’t have cameras.” He said “Well how do you know that I done what you say I done?” I asked He reached into his pocket and pulled out an upbeat kind of phone and said “I recorded it on my new z-phone.” “What the heck man?” I yelled
“Oh hush, I’m just trying to save money these days.” He huffed. “Just look at the damn screen.” He flipped on the television monitor and pressed play. As he zoomed in, I noticed that he really did record me but he didn’t record the man trying to rape me. “Excuse me sir, but where is the first half?” “What other half? What are you talking about?” He asked “Oh don’t play like you don’t know what I’m talking about. That man deserved what he got because he was going to rape me. Now where’s that part? Huh?” I raged. “What you need to do is watch your damn work puppets instead of keeping your crossed ass eyes on me!” “What ever that man wouldn’t hurt a fly.” He told himself “Maybe not, but would he rape one?” I asked The deranged man shot up and jacked me up into I corner and said “look boy, I’m not taking any shit from you.” “Well don’t. But I’m still going to dish it out. Eventually you will have to respond.” I smiled “Keep testing me, boy. I’ll choke you up in a heart beat.” He threatened “Talk is cheap.” I laughed. “Especially yours.” He opened the door and tossed me out. I turned to him and said “if you ever throw me into a corner again, you will make up breathing through a tube.” And then headed back up to my room. When I got to my room, the owner was sitting on my bed, patiently awaiting my arrival. I thought to myself “what the hell are you doing here?” He looked at me and smiled when he said, “I’m not going to hurt you.” “You got that right mister. I’ll call the police!” I shouted. He jumped from the bed and hand cuffed me. Threw me in this small potato sack; then dragged me into the elevator. “Now I’m going to leave you tied up in this bag just to teach you a lesson.” He explained “What lesson is that asshole?” I struggled for breath
“I just want you to hurt, because you killed and burned my brother.” He miffed “DAMN why is everybody always related!” I asked myself
He left the elevator, dropping his keys on floor without noticing. I wiggled out of the sack and grabbed the keys from behind. Unlocking the cuffs wasn’t the easiest thing to do. I stormed down to the main floor to tell all about what he has done to me, but no one was around. So I turned to the staircase and then ran back up to the thirteenth floor where Jason was roomed. I went and banged on his door. “Jason, help me please! HELP!” I could hear him rush to the door and trip over stuff on the way. “James what’s going on?” He asked eagerly “That crazy owner guy tied me up and stuffed me in a bag and then left me in the elevator!” I struggled for breath “Whoa slow down there buddy.” He said. “Billy, that’s the owner. But I don’t think that that’s the one who tried to kill you.” “No it was him!” I swore “Are you sure?” He asked “YES! I AM SURE!” I yelled “Okay, come on lets go.” He said “Wait I’m not going out there again, he may be out there!” I said “Just come on.” He instructed I entered his room, looking back to make sure the man wasn’t around. We dialed up my aunt’s number and she picked up after the first ring. She was glad to hear from me, and she was surprised I didn’t kill everyone in the building. She let me know that she was coming to pick me up in a few hours; I have never felt that happy in my life. I jetted up to my room, telling Jason goodbye, and gathered my things. I waited for her out front, when she finally pulled up after two long and drawn out hours. We then went home.
Home Sweet Home
Chp.9
Aunt Janie had everything so nice and put together when I got back home after all that I have been through. She said that she couldn’t wait to have me back home. I’m surprised she didn’t send me back to Chicago after what I said to her. When I woke up the next morning, she had made me breakfast. Bacon, eggs, waffles, and toast with a slight spread of apricot jelly, and a nice sized cup of orange juice with extra pulp. I guess mom told her how much I loved pulp. That’s one thing mom always remembered I liked. I wolfed down the hearty breakfast like it was the last meal I was ever going to eat.
I wanted to call Meagan, so after I ate, I rushed up to my room to do so. Aunt Janie thought she was doing me a favor by stopping Meagan at the grocery store and asking for her number. For me of course. I don’t even know how she knew about Meagan but then she told me that when she had to go up to my school and talk to the principal, Meagan told her why I hit the lady with the chair. It was then that I really knew that Meagan was a true friend. And that she maybe even liked me liked me. Meagan: “Hello?” Me: “Hey Meagan it’s me. James from school.” Meagan: “Oh, hey what’s up? I haven’t seen you around school lately but your aunt came by, I told her why you hit that lady. She understood. Are you in trouble?” Me: “No I’m not in trouble. And I’m doing fine actually.” Meagan: “I’m happy to hear that. So are you coming back to school?” Me: “Look I’ve got something to tell you…” I said trying to be as calm as possible. But I knew I had to tell her what happened to Mrs. Jameson. Meagan: “What is it? Are you moving again?” Me: “No, but Mrs. Jameson is dead.”
Meagan: “Did you do it?” she quickly accused Me: “Now you hold on there, I did nothing to that lady!” I raged Meagan: “Then who did? No one else hated her.” Me: “It was her dog, pretty.” Meagan: “Oh really? Well what if I don’t believe you? How can a dog kill a woman? How?” Me: “Well I’m telling you the truth. I wouldn’t lie to you. I like you…” I shared Meagan: “Wow no wander we’ve been having subs for a while.” She replied. “Wait what do you mean you like me?” Me: “I…I like you.” I admitted Meagan: “Really?” she asked Me: “Well yes—“I started, but Meagan hung up in my face. I was furious at her. I was just telling her the truth about Mrs. Jameson, and me. Girls just can’t handle the truth. I called her back to confront her. Me: “What the heck, Meagan?” Meagan: “It’s cool you like me and all, but I’m kind of mad you for killing my mom. I love her!” Me: “Wait what? Why didn’t you tell me that on the first day of school! And why have you been so quiet while I was wailing on her?” Meagan: “Because I didn’t want you to make fun of me that’s why!” Me: “Meagan you’re my best friend! I would’ve never made fun of you. And I’m sorry about your mom, I really didn’t kill her. Gosh this is so all of the sudden. It’s all happening so fast.” Meagan: “I’m sure you didn’t kill her James. You’re lucky you still have your mom. Go run to her. Love her forever.” She cried Me: “No that woman doesn’t love me!”
Meagan: “So what! At least you’re not adopted. At least you know who your real mom is. I don’t!” she hung up the phone again.
I was livid at that point. I darted outside and took the neighbors bike, and then I raced to Meagan’s house. When I got there the car was gone, but her light was on. I didn’t bother knocking on the front door, so I went around back and jumped threw an open window. “Meagan, Meagan, Meagan.” I yelled “James what the hell are you doing in my house!” she shouted “I’m here to apologize for what I did.” I said “Yeah you did that already, now get out of here, now!” she said I heard a car pull into the driveway. Meagan turned to me with a slight scare on her face. “James my dad is dad id here you better hide!” She shouted “Where?” I panicked She pointed to the under of her bed, and then instructed “there, under my bed!” I slid under her bed, and was forced to burry my head in her panties. “Ewe do you wipe?” I coughed “Shut up and stay DOWN!” She whispered As we both she tried to keep her cool, dad strolls in and they start conversations. Him: “Hey honey, what are you doing?” Her: “Nothing. Just standing here, breathing.” She breathed He looked around suspiciously and then replied “Oh well I have good news!” Sidetracked easily, Meagan responded “What, tell me!”
Him: “You know that your mom is gone right?” Her: “Sadly, yes.” Him: “Well she left us her house, so we are moving!” He rejoiced When he said that, both our mouths dropped. Her dad left the room all excited, and Meagan’s reactions were delayed. I came up from under the bed with a saddened face. Me: “Are you happy?” I asked, considering the fact that she wouldn’t have to deal with the bullies at school. Meagan: “I really like it here. I don’t want to leave.” She wept Me: “It’ll be okay Meagan. Look at the bright side; you’ll be in a new house. This means a bigger room!” I tried to lighten the darkened mood Meagan: “No I just want to be here with you and all the other friends of the school. I’ll miss you James. I don’t want to leave you here.” Our eyes met when she admitted that she would miss me if they moved, and then I went in for a kiss. It was magical. Meagan: “Wow, four years old? Yeah right” she complemented I blushed. That was the best part of my day. Her lips were perfect to me. Her breath was fruity. This was a blissful moment, which I will forever cherish. I stared off into her eyes, getting lost in them along the way. Meagan snapped her fingers and ordered, “Come back to earth captain hormone.” “Oh-oh that was great. Whoa my little heart is pounding from the best moment of my life.” I said while flipping it up into my waistband. “Since we’re moving I thought I should go with what I felt and kiss you.” She explained “I understand, Meagan.” I said
Meagan looked at me with such happiness, and then said, “You got to go.” I sighed and then replied, “Fine then.”
She gave me a goodbye kiss on the check and I climbed out through the window. Crying all the way home, my eyes reddened to the point of no return. I hated that she was going to move, but I loved that she felt the same way I did.
Trouble
Chp.10
Back at home later that day; I leaned on Aunt Janie for comfort. It was really taking its toll on me, Meagan’s up coming move. Aunty was surprisingly sympathetic. “Baby what’s wrong?” she asked “I went over to Meagan’s earlier and told her I liked her.” I wept “That’s good right?” She asked “She felt the same way about me.” I said “Okay get to the part that makes you sad.” She smirked “Her dad walked in and told her they were moving. And it turns out that Mrs. Jameson was Meagan’s adopted mom, so she left them the house. And now she’s leaving me here all alone.” I cried “Aw honey it’ll be just fine. I’ll take you to go see whenever you’d like, you hear?” she promised “She’s going to a new school too!” I cried “Come on now James, it’ll be alright.” She ensured
“I sure do hope so, aunty. I hope so.” I yawned
After while, I go back outside to get some fresh air. I wanted the wind to dry my tears and carry me to happiness. When I got out there I took notice to the grey Chevy four door standing in my driveway. I glanced over to see whom it may be but the windows were too dark for me to notify. I walked up to the mysterious car and pressed my face up against the driver’s side window. The window rolls down, and there appears a black guy with gold teeth. Being the nice little boy that I am, I said a quick “hello”. The guy opens the door and pulls me in and throws me to the back seat. “You’ll have a great time with us. Plus, you will be around people that are just like you.” Before I could reply, his buddy on the passenger side reached back and slapped some duck tape on my mouth. In my defense I took the seatbelt and hit him in the chest with it. As he caught his breath, I crawled up to the front and hit the driver in the throat with the bottle on Merlot they had sitting in the cup holder, and he gasped for air. I opened the door and leaped out into the traffic. The cars seemed to do very well at dodging me, but luckily, the grill of Megan’s dad’s car, and my face met. It didn’t hurt that bad, they were only going twenty mile an hour. They came to a quick stop and he jumped out of the car. “Oh my gosh I am so sorry are you okay?” “Yeah I’m okay can you just take me home.” I rubbed my head “No problem.” He said as he helped me into the car. “There you go buddy.” By the time I got home aunt Janie was panicking like a lady who lost her boy. So I told her that I was okay, and she put down the phone. “Dear God what in the world happened to you?” she panicked “First I was outside trying to breath the clean air, then I see this car in the driveway, so I go see who it is. They yank me inside, and drive off. As they drove off I hit both people with something hard, and then I jumped into the traffic.” I summed “Man why does all this bad stuff happen to you, boy?” she asked
“That’s what I’m saying!” I said. “When I fell to the street, Meagan’s dad hit me with his car. And now, here I am.” I finished “Well are you okay?” She asked, again “I’m fine, really.” I assure I ended the crazy night with a prayer to God, and a phone call to Meagan. I had to tell her exactly how I felt because the next day, she was leaving. For good. THE VERY NEXT DAY…
Goodbye Meagan
Chp.11
Today, Meagan’s move is going to be finalized. So I decided that I’d go down there to see her off. Hopefully, she wouldn’t fall apart with out all of this.
Pulling up to a half empty home, I saw that they have a moving company helping them with their furniture. I slowly approached the door looking as sad as can be, and here came Meagan-happy to see me. “Hey James!” She shouted from across the living room. “Hey Meggs.” I greeted. “So are you almost done here?” Our eyes connected from across the room, and she came to me. “James look I’ve got to tell you something…” She confessed “What you aren’t moving!” I rejoiced “Still got to move…” She trembled
“Well what is it? I hope your not moving to out of the city!?” I hoped She shot a “shut the heck up and listen” look, and before she could finish her confession, her dad comes in the room and calls out to her “come on honey”. As they got into the car, Meagan looked back at me and blew a kiss. I felt all the love and like in the world at that moment. Before we shared our feelings for each other, I was so out of my element.
The Very Next Morning…
Dreaming
Chp.12
This morning Aunt Janie wakes me, and gives me breakfast. It was so much I couldn’t even eat it all. I think it’s because I just couldn’t stand having my best friend gone from me. My mind was completely wrapped around Meagan.
I showered after the meal; surprisingly I still couldn’t seem to stop thinking about Meagan. I cried all the time and I just couldn’t do it anymore, I had to do something. So I hopped out of the shower, threw on some clothes, and then went looking for her. With no set plan, I just meandered hoping to find her. I started east on my street, and then went to the end of it. Remembering Mrs. Jameson’s address, I make my way over to Thompson Street. The third house down, there they were, unloading the truck. Meagan stood just feet from the truck, so I ran a gave her a hug from behind. Her squeal gave me an artic rush. “James how…!” She started “I know…I’m amazing…I know this!” I said as I hugged her tighter. “I don’t know what to say. This is crazy!” she squealed “Just say that you want to be with me. And you love me.” I replied
“James I do you know I like you. But we are just too young. Do you even know what love feels like? We are four freaking years old. And we both have problems. For God sakes, how are we talking like we are grown ups? I think that we should just stay friends. It’s for the better.” She said while tearing up. My eyes rolled back to the back of my head and my whole body became numb. The whole world just stopped spinning. “But don’t worry. Since we are friends and all, maybe my dad will let you stay over.” She caressed my pain “I’d love that.” I responded “Okay I’ll just go take my box of toys up to my room and then I’ll ask him on the way back down.” She said I backed off of her and took my place beside the truck. She dashed up and into the house, but took a while to get back down to me. After plenty of minutes she finally came to me with the best news ever. “He said you could stay over tonight!”
Later that Night…
Meagan and I decide to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Being that we were four years old, we couldn’t stay out for that long, especially in a new setting and with pretty on the run. We talked about some interesting things. All I wanted to do was talk about her, see how she’s doing; she wanted to do the exact opposite. “Your so pretty.” I flirted “Thanks I know I am.” She said Noticing she didn’t answer back with much thanks, I said, “That’s not what I expected to hear”. “Oh! Thank you I think that I am too.” She smarted “Wait what the hell is your problem?” I exploded “Excuse me?” she acted as if she was so shocked.
“Why are you acting to weird now? Do you not want me here?” I raged “I just don’t say ‘thank you’ anymore.” She said I got so angry; I snatched my hand from hers and crossed my arms. Huffed and puffed and the whole nine. “I don’t want to be your friend anymore, Meagan.” “Oh stop being a baby and hold my hand again!” She flipped out “NOOOOOOO!” I shouted, awakening from a horrible nightmare I never knew that I talked in my sleep. And it surprised Meagan’s dad too, he rushed in too see if I was okay. “James are you okay?” “Yes.” I said while catching my breath. “I’m fine now. I was just having a bad dream. I hope.” “Sounds like it, now go back to sleep.” He said
He left the room with the door a tiny bit open. I glanced up at Meagan and saw her sleeping so peacefully. But that nightmare was not how I wanted it to go down. I would hate it she turned on me. And most of all, I didn’t want her to tell me that she didn’t like me as much as I do her. After that bad dream I had all kinds of second thoughts about this friendship. I contemplated the thought of her and I being all grown up and married, and her treating me like crap while I’m changing her baby’s diapers. She may be gorgeous, but I wander what’s really behind that pretty little face of hers.
The Big Day
Chp.13
I woke up this morning with Meagan in my arms. I felt so alive. I sniffed her hair and it smelled like bubble gum. She opened her eyes and laid them on mine. The way she looked at me shoved all my skeptical feeling out the window and into the fire.
Last night Meagan’s dad referred to this day as “a big day”. Just a I was going up to ask him exactly what today had in store for us, he met me half way with a big cheesy smile. “I’m taking you all to the Handsome town zoo!” He cheered. “But don’t tell Meagan, I want to surprise her. She has always dreamed of going there.”
Meanwhile, I returned back to Meagan’s room and gathered a few things that I could use for our trip. On the other hand, Meagan didn’t know what we were doing or where we were going so she packed a bi duffle bag with all-purpose materials. Meagan’s dad hollered for us to come on back down stairs so we can go already. We all crawled into his car and drove away. It took us a while to get to the zoo, but we finally got there. The expression on Meagan’s face was great. She was surprised, happy, shocked and she even shed a few tears. “Oh gosh daddy thanks so much!” “I thought that you deserved a treat since you have been a little soldier about your mom being gone.” He said “James did you tell him to take us here?” She turned to me and giggled. “Nope he knew you loved the zoo. I just found out today.” I threw my hands up “I’m so happy dad thank you so much this is the best day of my life.” She smiled “Well how about we get on out there and see some animals!” He said
We jumped out of the car with our bags on our arms, and then walked up to the entrance gate and purchased our wristbands. When we passed through the metal detectors, we parted ways. “Alright guys, here is twenty bucks. Stop and get a snack later on. Be sure to drink a lot of water while you’re out there walking and stuff. I’ll be over
by the monkeys.” He instructed. “I love the monkeys!” He waved at us and headed off to the monkey side.
Meagan and I were pleased to be alone, at last. We started our journey by going through the peacock animal kingdom, which scared me half to death because they seemed to be approaching me with every step I took. When I finally got up to one, it spread its little feathery eye things and glared at me. I hopped my ass right back over the fence when it charged at me. Meagan just stood back, laughing and what not. After my encounter with the peacocks, we headed over to the all bird pavilion. We saw all kinds with different heights, weights, and head circumferences. We made our way over to the water creatures when a momma owl swallowed the rat one kid was dangling over its cage. The alligators gained our attention fast, considering it was wolfing down a piece of a turkeys leg. Trying to impress my woman Meagan, I stick my hand through the gate thinking it wasn’t paying attention. I was paying attention. And I got bit. The alligator attacked my arm the very minute I turned to Meagan to show her how brave I was. She screamed so loud for her dad, my ears began to numb. “Dad James got bit!” she yelped Dad rushed right over and my agony continued. My arm was throbbing to the point of me desperately wanting my arm amputated. They carted me off to the nearby hospital, and sedated me with plenty of medications. Later that day… “Okay my little soldier, you’re all stitched up.” Female doctor said Meagan’s dad butted in “dear god thank you so much! His mother is going to kill me!” he yelped in one breath. We leave the emergency room after two long hours of sewing and threading. On the way home, Meagan’s dad blew up. He was heated. “Do you have any idea what I had to go through because of you?” he raged from the driver’s seat. “Why on earth did you have your arm in that damned cage?”
I looked at him angrily and hissed, “What do you expect? I’m four years old. Hello, haven’t you noticed my dialogue?” “How dare you disrespect me after all that I’ve done for you?” he fumed “You act like you gave a kidney.” I smarted “Okay smartass do you want to go home?” he asked “Go ahead, take me home. Do yourself a damn favor.” I muttered. “And we’ll see just how heart broken your daughter would be.” Meagan arose from the deep confinement the argument caused and said, “I want James to stay with us.” When she spoke in my interest her dad looked at me with much anger. In return I winked back at him, kind of suggesting “I tapped that…” He slammed on the gas and we arrived at their house in a heartbeat. They carried in the bags and we all laid down to rest. At least I made it seem as if…
Dramatics
Chp.14
Once they fell asleep, I made my move. I had to escape from that nightmare. I just couldn’t take anymore yelling. When people yell at me I get crazy, so I decided to go back home. I’d rather be around someone that I can halfway stand, than be around a grasping pa. But as soon as I stepped foot on the other side of their place mat, here came he. He was yelling louder than ever and it made my blood temperature go up like crazy. “And where the hell do you think you’re going?” he asked “Home.” I answered, taking one more step. “I promised your mom that I’d keep you safe while you were in my hands.” He said.
“Well I’m not in your hands, I’m on the ground. And that’s not my mom, that’s my aunt. And I’m leaving.” I replied “Get your ass back in here and go to sleep.” He grabbed me by the stitched arm and yanked me inside. “You sonofabitch.” I miffed “What are you going to kill me like you did her mother?” he smirked and then released my arm. I feeling all the seethe in the world, I charge at him grabbing the umbrella off of the coat rack, and thrusting it into his throat. As he bleeds I carefully made my exit. By the time I got outside, he had dragged his corrupted body out where I was and took hold of my leg. “What ever you do, don’t tell her you done this to me. She will reveal her real self…” he struggled. I kicked him away and continued on home.
THE FOLLOWING HOUR…
Aunt Janie wasn’t present when I got home. I entered my home, it was silent and the floors looked like they haven’t been stepped on in days. I listened to the strange silence a bit harder, and then hard breathing broke the silence. I tossed a glance over my shoulder making sure that there was no one to scare me, but sure enough, there stood he. Meagan’s dad, still breathing. He wasn’t having the easiest time trying to catch his breath before it finally escapes him. He was like a dart and I was the target board. He charged at me and threw me into a headlock. As I chocked on my saliva, I found that he was slowly releasing me. “Don’t you ever come around again! Leave my baby alone. You the devil child!” he tried to yell but his pierced throat caught up with him. “Not really hurt by that Mr.…” I started. “What exactly is your name sir?” “You little bastard!” he tried to grab hold of me again but I slipped through his grip. “If I were you I’d keep my hands to myself.” I said, just trying to help him out.
“You can’t kill me.” He said arrogantly. “I’m unstoppable.” He started after me, I ran to the front door remembering the knife my aunty always kept in the drawer just incase of an emergency. He approached quickly and I drew out the knife, warning him to back the fuck back. He didn’t listen, like the rest of them, so I slid the blade across his neck, sending him to the ground ten times as fast as I did back at his house. I darted out of the house, leaving the dying man facedown on the ground.
By and by I felt afraid of myself, considering the fact that I don’t know what I would do next, or what I’m capable of. I don’t know if I’m taking it a little too far or if I’m just defending myself.
I bike to Meagan’s house…
Finally I arrive at Meagan’s house after twenty minutes of biking. No lights are on, she’s still asleep. I stepped though the door, making the loudest silence ever. I look to the side just to be sure that the cost was clear; Meagan stood before me, smoke spewing from her ears. “How was your nap?” I asked in the hopes of her not killing me. “James what is wrong with you?” she asked. I notice a razor blade hit the ground beneath her feet. “What do you mean?” I asked, being sidetracked by the blade. “Don’t start James. I saw everything.” She revealed. “So you’re a spy now? Keeping tabs on me? Watching every move I make?” I enraged “No!” she picked the razor blade up. “Why are you killing all of these people? Why? What did they ever do to drive you up the wall?” “Meagan,” I started but she kept butting in “What would you have done to me, I wander…” she slowly moved in
“Meagan, you’d better back away from me now.” I threatened “I don’t even know what I ever saw in you.” She moved closer “Little girl, you’re cute and all but I WILL chop your ass up!” my eyes widened and my pupils constricted. She took a moment and stared around the living room. Trying to get a feel of an unstoppable force that will take control of her hands and stab me. “I really don’t want to do this.” She moved a little closer “Look Meagan I’m not going to tell you again! You better back back. Give me fifty feet!” I shouted “James, do you love me?” she asked, trying to distract me “I did.” I sighed The sight of her eyes turning pitch black scared me the most, but when she charged at me I got a little weak. But not weak enough to let her kill me. I backed up all the way to the front door, and grabbed one of the sets of keys on the key rack. She striked at me, I blocked and then wrapped her hair around my fist. She screamed “oww” and it was hard to ignore, but I couldn’t risk losing my life over love. I drove the key to my aunt’s shed, into her back seven times. She fell to the ground, and I her heartbeat slowed in a hurry. Finally she died. I drug her out to the back yard and placed her into a ditch. After I covered her with mulch, I walked away ruing the whole day. I was devastated by the outcome of our friendship.
Atrocity
Chp.15
I could bet that I’m pretty detested right now. As a matter of fact, I know I am. I began to hate myself for what I done. I can’t live with all these skeletons in my closet. I’ve got to move on though. I can’t let this defeat me. I slept in a shed over night, and as soon as the sun rose, I
headed on over to tell Aunt Janie what’s been going on. When I got there she was fully awake. Making breakfast and all. She had no clue I’d been home already. I walk up to her and take a deep breath before spilling. “Hey Aunty, I’ve got to tell you something.” “What is it?” she asked while stirring the sweet rice. “I had done a bad thing Aunty…” I sobbed “Well what is it?” she turned to me “I killed them…I killed them all.” I cried “Killed who? What in the devil are you talking about boy?” she put down the spoon and stepped closer to me. “Let me call Meagan’s dad to see what you all did while you were gone.” She said, reaching for the home phone that lay on the counter beside her. “I killed him…and Meagan…” I blurted Aunty Janie turned back to the food on the stove and started stirring again. “I know your playing right?” “No I am not. I killed them both.” I mourned She flipped the gas off and then went to sit on the sofa. She dug deep into her purse and pulled out a cigarette box. She smacked it up against the bottom of her wrist, trying to loosen them up at the bottom. She opened the box and retrieved one. When she lit the cigarette, my heart began to pound and I could feel my sweat glands building. “Where are the bodies?” “I put her into the ditch behind her house, and I don’t know where he is.” I stammered Aunt Janie sucked on the cigarette real hard and then flicked it over her shoulder. “Let’s go.” She got up and grabbed her car keys from the key rack on the wall by the front door. I stood in silence.
“If I come near you, I will snap your little neck like a twig. Now get your ass in the car, now.” She looked back at me and muttered. I ran my ass swiftly by her and out the door trying to not get busted up side the head on the way by. Twenty Minutes Later…
We pull into Meagan’s driveway and park the car. As we crept around back, we started to smell the stench of decomposition. By the time we dug her up, her nails had grown some, and her eyes were whiter. Her skin was pasty white. Lurid to an extent. Her body has shriveled to an emaciated corpse. Aunty grabbed her legs, and demanded I take her arms. I didn’t refuse because I didn’t want to get backhanded. We stuffed her off into the trunk and drove to the nearest dump. We drug her under a car masher and laid her there. Just seconds later her body busted into little pieces. We left in a hurry. Strangely, Aunt Janie was a little to good at getting rid of a dead body. I couldn’t help but look at her from the side. “Can I help you?” She asked “You were…pretty good back there…” I said “Look let’s not relive the past, okay?” she winked “Yes ma’am.” I answered I really began to ponder. I wanted to know if she was like me. If I was like her. Is she my real mother? So I asked her what she meant by that. “So what did the past do to you?” I asked “Aw nothing. Nothing really.” She kept focus on the road “Have you killed before?” I raised my eyebrow “Not recently, no.” She said “Can you tell me who it was?” I asked “James, does it matter?” She miffed
“I just really want to know.” I said She sped up and then we hung a right and then a left, leading us to our driveway. She turned the car off, and sighed.” “Look I was young. Stupid. All my screws were loose.” She admitted “Who did you kill?” I rejoiced as if I love to kill… “You had better keep your mouth shut!” She threatened “Zipped tight.” I smiled “I was in high school. I got too carried away. I just wanted to pick a fight with some one weaker than mea so people would think that I was cool. It was the staple gun that took her life.” She explained I looked at her like she was a weirdo and then praised “oh my gosh Aunty you are so cool!” “James, killing people isn’t cool. I regret all that I’ve done.” She said We got out of the car and went into the house. The night passes through, and the morning shows up wearing an ugly coat.
Untitled Part Two
Chp.16
This morning, my mother calls. I wasn’t too happy about it. The fact that she gave me away was stuck in my head. I thought to my self “wow she really loves me.” The phone rang as soon as my eyelids lifted. Answering the phone made me want to blow my brains out. “Hello?” I yawned “Hey honey how are you?” she asked
“Fine.” I said with no character to my voice. I hung up in her face and laid back down. Exactly thirty seconds after hanging up the phone, it rang again. Aunty got angry. Purposely, I told her it was a prank caller.
I couldn’t believe that I hung up on my mother. Never in a million years would I have thought that I was going to hang up on my mom. But I was totally pissed at her for handing me off so easily. Moments Later…
Ring Ring Ring, the phone sounds again. Obviously she hasn’t gotten the message yet. I didn’t want to be rude, but I had to tell her how I really felt. “Hello?” I raged “Wow, the signal must be really weak down there huh?” she said “No the signal is fine.” I said “Then you hung up on me?” She calculated. “But why?” “Look woman don’t call me ever again. I hate you and I wish you weren’t my mom. Leave me the hell alone!” I yelled while getting out of bed “Baby don’t be like that. I’m coming to get you.” She assured herself “Don’t bother. By the time you land, I’ll be so far gone-you won’t even know where to start looking.” I untangled the phone cords angrily “Where is all of this anger coming from all of the sudden?” she asked earnestly as if she really didn’t know. “All of the sudden! This is not ‘all of the sudden’!” I fumed. “You gave me away.”
“Now you listen to me boy. You have no idea how hard it is to be a parent. And a good one at that!” She defended “Well if you would’ve kept the gate closed, then maybe you wouldn’t have had any trespassers.” I shouted “Don’t make me beat you James.” She threatened “Please. Don’t you think it’s a little too late to do a mother’s job?” I hung up the phone and knocked it off its stand.
A day passes…
Definitely Maybe
Chp.17
This morning is horrible, I felt terrible. I couldn’t sleep at all. My head was hurting super bad. I was having the worst nightmare. It was about my mom really showing up to take me back to Ohio.
Aunty comes and talks to me about things that really didn’t spark my interest. “James, pack up. Your mother is coming for you.” “Whoa hold on there.” My eyes widened “Just listen to me.” She rubbed my back in a circular motion “I’m not going with that woman.” I said “But she’s your mom.” She said in an enthusiastic way “No I’m staying here. With you.” I said “Okay let me call and tell her to come another time.
“Please?” I wailed Aunt Janie went downstairs and dialed mother up. I sprinted after her, failing to remember that I have a phone in my room. But in just three seconds, I remembered and darted back up to my room. I heard everything.
“Hey he can’t make it this time.” Aunty said “Why? Did he throw a fit?” mom asked “Not exactly.” Aunty said “Well why isn’t my son able to come back home to his family?” mom offended Aunty told her exactly what I did and said. Mom didn’t take it so well… Aunty Janie came back up to me…
“She wasn’t too happy about this. She said she would call us back tomorrow.” She notified “I don’t want to talk to her.” I said “Look if you want to stay, I’ll make the call for you.” She said with a brave tone. “Sure. Thank you.” I handed her the phone. “Child if you don’t want to go, you call her and tell her yourself.” She said “Fine I will.” I snatched the phone back from her hands. “Go ahead. Punch in the number.” She smarted I dialed the number, ready to tell her that I didn’t want to move back with her. Ring Ring Ring…
“Hello?” mom answers “I’m not going with you and that’s that.” I said “What have I done to make you hate me?” mom stressed “I’m just not feeling the way you handle things as an adult.” I critiqued Aunt Janie took the phone from me…
“I’m sorry but we have got to go.” She said “No wait tell him that I love him!” mom shouts Aunty pulls the phone away from her ear and sticks her tongue out like she was vomiting. “I tell him this all the time.” She said “Why are you being such a bitch to me?” mom asked “Because of people like you, kids have to grow up without a stable household.” She replied “Are you going to hold this over my head forever?” mom asked “No honey, I’m grown. I don’t have time for childish things. But I will say this. He doesn’t want to go home with you, and I’m not going to make him. So please subtract yourself from this equation, it’s beginning to lose its balance.” She slammed the phone on its hook.
When she told mom off like that, my love for her grew a bunch more. I mean, I thought I was the crazy one of them all but it seems like I just got touched by the crazy stick, and my aunty was beaten with it. Aunty took me to dinner that night. She looked a little worried about something. She reminded me of a killer who left a messy trail leading to his capture. When I asked her what the matter is, she tries to be modest. “Aunty what’s wrong with you?” I asked
“I’m okay, James. Just eat your food.” She said “Are you sure you are okay?” I asked again, hoping for an answer “Well I’m just…” she started “Scared? Get over that fear baby. You had done the right thing by me. You should feel like you are standing on the top of the world.” I sang “You’re right son. I feel a lot better now.” She smiled softly
We finish up dinner, and then return home… Another day passes…
It’s the day after yesterday, the doorbell rings. I go down stairs and I see that my mom has showed up. The taxicab was still standing in our driveway behind my Aunt’s car. She had no bags, just an umbrella, a purse, and an angry face. I raced my fear back up the stairs and hid under my bed. Aunt Janie heard the bell ring so she went to get it. I came from underneath the bed, and went to greet my birth mother. “James let’s go!” mom ordered “Aunty help me!” I yelped “Oh shut the hell up I am not in the mood! The plane leaves at nine!” mom said. “I want to stay here with Aunty.” I wept “Ugh this isn’t going to be easy.” Mom mumbled
Forty minutes later…
“Boy let’s go!” mom hollered. “Go away.” I yelled back at her from my room “What did you just say to your mother?” she raged “Go away!” I replied “Excuse me girl,” Mom said, pushing Janie aside. “I’m going to get my son.”
Mom tried to get into my room but she couldn’t. Her dumb ass couldn’t make the realization that maybe there was something heavy blocking my door, and that I probably already took off. In which I did. I took off to Meagan’s old clubhouse. Seventeen Minutes Later…
The nice calm clubhouse made me think that it was safe for me to go home now. Hopefully, mom took my advice and killed herself before I have to. When I got back home, mom is still there. The cabby was there too. I crawled back into my room through the window around the back of the house. My bed was still blocking the door, which made me feel safe.
All of the sudden I hear foot steps. The steps sounded like they were angry and not clear exactly how they were going to do something. I walked back to my window just in case I needed to split again. I waited… and waited… and then it happened. My bed came flying towards me as well as my door. I became buried underneath my thrown furniture. No mercy was present.
Leave
Chp.18
Some towering, yet quick creature came busting through my door, leaving my limbs no room to wiggle. I shoveled my way through the pile up and finally reached breathable air. I have to stay calm though, I don’t want to end up killed and I damn sure didn’t want to kill anyone.
Six Minutes Later… “James. Come out now. You’re coming with me to Ohio. I’m not going o fight with you on this.” Mom whistled “Let me out of here. I can’t feel my arms!” I shouted “Only if you act right.” Mom answered back like I was a three year old. “Well you better let me out of here if you want me to live!” I fought back the sensation of cutting her up into edible pieces and then feeding them to a very hungry vulture. “You will live, trust me.” She promised “I don’t think this is funny. Get me out of here!” I raged Mom pulls off all of the furniture and then snatched me up and headed for the door. Aunty was nowhere to be found. Mom continued all the way to the cab, she threw me in the back and then the driver drove off. “At least let me bye to my mom.” I smarted “Sit back and put on the seatbelt.” Mom ignored my comment “Why are you going this?” I asked “You have really become a smartass. Now shut up and sit back.” She said “Where are we going? At least tell me that.” I asked
“The airport.” Mom rolled her eyes
Moments pass by…
We arrive in the airport, located in the downtown Austin. Mom wants to go stand in line and get our tickets; I told her that I had to use the potty. “Mommy I got to go potty.” I faked “Damn, why now? Can’t you wait until we land in Ohio?” mom asked “Come on now mom I got to go.” I said “Okay, fine. Just hurry it up! I need to be on the soonest flight” Mom ordered “Yes ma’am.” I replied Mom kept straight, in the direction of the ticket line. I took off towards the entrance doors. I couldn’t go with her, not back there to that life. I jumped in the same cabby that lifted us here and demanded he drive me back to my house. He kept asking where my mother was, and I kept telling him that she sent me back. Aunt Janie was by the front door, waiting for me as I pulled into the driveway. She knew that I was going to escape capture. I ran to her with my arms open wide and she took me in her arms like she hadn’t seen me in ages. “I knew you’d do the right thing.” She smiled “Aunty I was so scared. She kept being mean to me. I had to leave her or else I would’ve done another bad thing.” I shot back “Its okay honey, she’s not taking you anywhere. Not as long as I’m alive.” She assured
She carried me up stairs in order to get me into some better-looking clothes. She had plans to get us to a hotel just in case my mom tried to kidnap me again. “Here you go, put these on.” She handed me a pair of pants “Thanks.” I put them on and them looked at her with my eyes suggesting my gratitude. “I’m glad you’re here to keep me safe.” “Not a problem sugar.” She fumbled through some clothes and then finally coming across a nice t-shirt. She said, “It’s because I love you that I keep protecting you.” “How much do you love me Aunty Janie?” I played “More than the bank has to offer.” She replied seriously while handing me a cap. “That’s what I’m talking about!” I started happy dancing.
It was then and there that I realized that all of this adversity was meant to be. My dad getting shot to death for kidnapping the Queen, and mother gaining weakness by the second sending me off to the best person ever. My Aunt Janie. I couldn’t ask for a better person to be in cahoots with.
Aunt Janie and I sped off to the nearby hotel, Holiday Inn, and the checked in. I looked around the lobby nervously, fearing the wrath of my mother if she found us here. Aunt Janie promised me that I was going to be okay, and motioned for the hotel helper guy to get our bags up to our room while we fetched a snack. “You all ready to go upstairs?” she asked while chewing the last of her cookie “I feel like I’m being watched, Aunty. I’m ready to go, I’m scared.” I quivered “Great let’s head on up to the room.” She said.
We traveled to the top floor. Scoped out our room, and then entered. We flipped on the lights, and on the bed-sits mother. I was so confused at that point; I didn’t know what to do. “That crazy feeling I felt down in the lobby was you?” I yelped “Yes, it was!” she smiled devilishly and then grabbed me up. “Let go of him!” Aunt Janie swung her hand across her face and then took me back. “How dare you? You whore! I should have never placed him into your arms.” I regretted “No, how dare you? You heard him; he doesn’t want to go with you!” grabbed my hand and headed through the door. Mom’s face became showered with the color red. Ground Floor… “We have got to get out of here. This woman will not stop.” Aunty picked up speed and we exited the hotel. “Can we tie my shoe first? It’s undone. And I don’t want to fall.” I complained “Boy, are you trying to go back to Ohio?” she stopped and gave me a quick shake. “Because I want you to be safe.” I shook my head “no” and forgot all about my shoes. “I thought so.” She smarted “Where are we going?” I bothered “Don’t worry about it. I’ll keep you safe!’ She yelled “Okay I’m sorry!” I apologized. I looked back and saw her. She was behind us.
“Don’t look back! She’s right on our tails.” Aunty slapped me in the back of the head. “She’ll know that we know that she’s behind us if you look back.” “Well how did you know that she was behind us?” I asked “Because I just knew she wouldn’t sit for long.” She thundered “Wow aunty you are being really mean.” I muttered “If you just shut the hell up and run a little fast then maybe I’ll ease up off of your ass!” she hollered
We roamed the streets in search of a safe place, but mom followed from a distance. After while, mom was accompanied by someone I wasn’t familiar with. I wasn’t that scared though, all I had to do was pick up something heavy and hit them with it. If mom tries hurting me again, vowed to will kill her as well as any others that stood in my way of escaping.
See You in the Fire
Chp.19
Mom was still after me, her anger grew stronger ach mile she chased us. I knew that by the end of all of this, lives were going to be no longer.
We were able to escape the hunt and lose the followers. Instead of going back home, we go to one of Aunt’s friends’ house. Name was Tony and she was delighted to have us over. She was the type of woman that could be as fierce as a tiger when you tick her off, but can also be an honest angel. But the only uncomfortable thing about her house was that it resembled the inside of a fat mans stomach. It was hard to get comfortable.
“Well who might this handsome young boy be?” Tony asked “This is my nephew, James.” Aunty answered “I’m James.” I said to her. Tony explained to us why she had to fire her maid because the maid apparently couldn’t stand the mess. “Oh it’s fine, really.” Aunt Janie lied “So what can I do for you guys tonight?” Tony asked “I’m a guy.” I flirted “And a very cute one too.” She turned to face Aunty. “What are you guys doing here?” “Nothing really. Just stopping in.” Aunty said “Um can I say something…?” I butted in “Go ahead honey.” Tony insisted “Aunty?” I looked at her for permission She sighed and said “by all means.” “My mom is trying to kill me and we are running from her right now.” I sniveled “Say it isn’t so.” Tony placed her hand over her chest. “I’m not lying.” I said in a hurry. “We need to hide here until the coast is clear.” Just as Tony began to reply, the door knocked. Tony went to peak through the peephole. “Um is your mom carrying a purple fake Gucci hand bag?” It was then that I an episodic panic attack. And Tony opened the door and let her in.
“Hey girl, what’s up?” Tony ad-libbed “Where is he? I want to know where my son is now! Don’t test me because I will blow this place your ass up.” Mom threatened “First of all,” Tony flipped the bird and then shoves her to the ground. “Don’t test me bitch!” mom seethed “No you don’t test me. You are in my house. You can’t just come up into my shit, demanding things. I will beat the dog shit out of you; let your ass take one more step.” Tony threw up her guard
Mom took another step anyway, and Tony pounced on her like a cat. Ripping tuffs of hair from my mother’s head, Tony pounded on her face like it was a cheap drum. Once mom showed weakness, Tony dragged her to the patio and threw her over. Mother landed on a lawn chair. She looked dead to all of us, but I couldn’t be too sure. Tony approaches us all frantic and shit. “You need to go. I can’t get into trouble killing people and hurting people.” “Okay fine, we’ll be going now.” Aunty said
Aunty and I leave her house and hail down a cab as we walked further away from the crime scene. The cabby person drives us home. “Gone upstairs, grab some things…like something that you can protect yourself with.” She instructed “Yes ma’am.” I darted up the stairs and into my room. For protection I grabbed the switchblade I swiped from Meagan’s house a long while back. I started for the door, when I heard a noise over by my bed. I walk over to my bed, cautious. Mom pops up from the side cracking her neck. My heart jumps and skips a beat, surprising me with her existence. “Hey son, would you like to know why you act like you do? Would you like to know how you’re able to talk like you’re twenty years old? Well here it is. When I was pregnant with you, I drank lots of…liquor. Hard liquor. Now
usually the baby wouldn’t make it if the mother drinks bad stuff while pregnant, but something out of the ordinary happened with you. The doctor diagnosed you with the rare brain disease called evangel cellular scleroses. It’s when your brain has extra brain cells that trigger brain augmentation. Your brain is growing as if you were a grown man. I was scared for you. I wanted them to put you to rest. But I couldn’t let my baby die. I knew that I could care for him. I could take care of him. But I lost faith.” She explained I stood in shock. I couldn’t believe what my ears were hearing. “You’re stuck now buddy. I’m here and I’m taking you home with me! I’m better now! I can take care of you!” she yelled. “Aunt Janie!” I cried out “No use for doing that. I have her dealt with.” Mom smiled She ran up to me and slapped me across the face and then took my arm. I tried to escape her embrace, but it was just too strong for me to handle. At that point I was scared to death of my mother. But something struck me, seconds later. If I could get her sidetracked for a few moments, I could pull out my knife and put it through her. “There is a cop car!” I hollered She looked over her shoulder and out of the window; I drew the blade from my pocket and shoved it into her chest, several times over. She fell to the ground and blood gushed from her chest as if water would if I busted a balloon full of it. We shared a few words with each other. Some that were pretty bold. “So here you lay. At my foot. Dieing as slowly as I wish. Such a wondrous thing to me, and Aunt Janie.” I leaned down and whispered in her ear “Go to hell.” Mom choked on her clotted blood, trying to clutch my leg. “See you there…”
I stepped over her and then took a few steps forward. I turned back to her and winked. I hurried back down stairs to help Aunt Janie, but she was tied up on the sofa. Begging for her life as I untied her. I got her a glass of water and she gulped it down with no hesitation.
“Let’s not worry about her anymore. She’s burning in hell right now.” I smiled while wiping my hands with a wet towel. “You killed her?” Aunty put the glass cup on the coffee table in front of her. “I had to. She tried to kill me off. So, my balls grew and I cut her ass.” I said with tireless pride. “Good job son.” Aunty grabbed me into her arms for a huge hug.
The rest of the day was heavenly. I finally didn’t have to worry about protecting myself from others or myself. Aunty and I took her body to the lake and pitched her in with no worries of her returning. This goes to show, if you mess with a four year old, you never know what kind of disease they may have that will make them take you out.
About the Author Hello readers, Kliphton Taylor here. Writing this story was challenging for me in many ways. I had to be creative with the characters and I also had to remember that the main character was four years old, so I couldn’t be too abrasive with his dialogue. Explaining his condition at the end of the story was a little tough, considering there is no such disease. This was all part of my plan to let the world know that abandoning a young child with out fully explaining to them why it is your leaving them, and then they can become very hostile. Even if they aren’t suffering from a rare brain disease.
Be sure to check out my other projects. Those include ‘The Second-Hand killer’, and ‘Dead after Divorce’.
