ASTON MARTIN DBX707
THE MOST POWERFUL LUXURY SUV IN THE WORLD
The DBX707, hand-built in St. Athan in Wales, has a tremendous 707 hp and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h. The new DBX707 is an SUV with character: with an abundance of compelling capabilities a combination of breathtaking power, outstanding dynamics and unmistakable style. The DBX707 is the ultimate SUV in every respect.
The worldʼs most powerful luxury SUV, the DBX707, redefines performance and driving pleasure, setting new standards in SUV performance for Aston Martin. The purpose-built 4.0-litre V8 with 707 hp and 900 Nm includes a comprehensive package of engine, transmission, suspension and brake upgrades. Hardware highlights include a new 9-speed transmission with wet clutch and 42 mm carbon brakes. The fastest. The most powerful. Best handling. Three accolades the DBX707 was designed to achieve. Not by blindly chasing benchmarks, but by achieving them in its own way. For Aston Martin, this meant ensuring there was a nuance behind the numbers – world-beating power and speed, coupled with exceptional precision, dynamic flair and genuine commitment to an engaging and uniquely impressive driving experience. The DBX707 builds on the widely acclaimed design, dynamics and driver-friendly character of the V8 DBX, building on these authentic sporting attributes. Every area of the car has been enhanced to improve performance, increase driving enjoyment and enhance its presence on the road. Tobias Moers, Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin, said of the DBX707: “Since its introduction, the DBX has represented Aston Martin’s dynamic and design values in a way that proves not all SUVs have to make the same compromises. With the DBX707 we have pushed the boundaries in every area to create a car that sets new standards in performance and desirability. It’s the fastest, most powerful, most manageable and most engaging car of its kind and puts Aston Martin at the forefront of SUV performance.” Led by Aston Martin's Head of Powertrain Engineering, Ralph Illenberger, the engine of the DBX707 now features ball-bearing turbochargers and be-
spoke engine calibration to unleash more power and torque. Aston Martin’s flagship high-performance SUV is a 9-speed automatic transmission with wet clutch. This high-performance gearbox is capable to handle much more torque than a conventional torque converter automatic and boosts the output of the 4.0-litre V8 engine to an immense 707 hp and 900 Nm, an increase of 157 hp and 200 Nm over the DBX. Most noticeable are the much quicker gear changes compared to the torque converter transmission. Torque distribution between the front and rear axles is fully automatic, with up to 100 per cent of torque being directed to the rear axle if required. Careful calibration of the e-diff ensures that the DBX707 has the cornering agility, sporty feel and dynamic character of a true sports car. The DBX707 integrates chassis and drivetrain technology to provide the best balance of handling and the optimum combination of traction and agility at all times. Key to the exceptional handling of the DBX707 is its air suspension system. Retaining the basic architecture and triple volume chambers of the DBX V8, which is already considered the best handling SUV on the market, the DBX707 has a special suspension tuning optimised for its uncompromising demands and objectives. To emphasise the driver-oriented focus of the DBX707, the dynamic driving modes have also been revised and improved. “Race Start” is available in GT Sport and Sport+ modes to maximise off-road acceleration and fully showcase the enhanced performance. Revised active logic in the all-wheel-drive transfer case provides greater harmony and precise control between the drivetrain and ESP system, delivering a more natural, sports car-like driving experience. Drummond Jacoy, Head of Vehicle Engineering and Procurement at Aston Martin, added: “Developing the ultimate SUV presented our engineering team with daunting challenges. This class of vehicle is characterised too often by an obsession with brute force. With the DBX707, our aim was to combine immense power with impeccable control and precision, allied to an authentic, sporting character that is essential to any Aston Martin model.” The DBX707 offers drivers a revised lower console with new switches for selecting driving modes. Rather than having to access a sub-menu in the infotainment system, the driver now has the option to select the most important dynamic modes and settings directly with their fingertips. These include dedicated buttons for the suspension mode, ESP, manual gear selection mode, which is now shifted manually like a sports car rather than reverting to automatic, and the active exhaust system switch, which opens the valves of the new four-pipe sports exhaust system without the need to activate sports mode. In line with the extensive technical upgrades, the exterior and interior of the DBX707 have also undergone a thorough design overhaul. The result is spectacular and sporty, but with the style and attention to detail for which Aston Martin is rightly celebrated. The new front end of the DBX received a larger grille and an all-new design of the reversing lights with new air intakes and brake ventilation ducts, as well as a new front splitter profile. The satin chrome grille has been enlarged to significantly increase cooling airflow for the high-performance V8 and new 9-speed transmission. The six horizontal bars are now split to make the model more visually interesting. The dark chrome window surrounds and new louvres on the bonnet blend perfectly with the grille and gloss black splitter, which continues along the flanks with gloss black side skirts that have a deeper and more pronounced profile to give the DBX707 a groundhugging stance. The DBX707 also features soft-closing doors that further emphasise the luxury credentials of the SUV. The rear end is equally dramatic. A new spoiler lip on the roof wing reduces lift and increases stability at high speeds. A significantly enlarged twin rear diffuser protrudes into the new large diameter quad exhaust system, improving both aesthetics and aerodynamics. The new exhaust system is finished in matte black to complement the gloss black finish of the diffuser. Completing the changes at the rear is a new rear bumper with integrated side panel vents that accentuate the muscular physique of the DBX707. The sporty theme continues in the interior with sports seats as standard (comfort seats are available as a complimentary option). All seats have 16-way power adjustment and front and rear heating as standard. There are three interior trim options to choose from: the standard Accelerate trim with a blend of leather and Alcantara®, and the optional Inspire Comfort and Inspire Sport trims with semi-aniline leather featuring embroidered Aston Martin wings on the headrest, a contrasting stripe down the centre of the seat and a perforated pattern in the backrest and seat cushion. Like the exterior, the interior of the DBX707 features dark chrome switches as standard. Bright chrome and carbon fibre are optional. Piano black veneer is standard, with carbon fibre or bronze metallic mesh veneer available as an option. For customers who want to enhance the exclusive character of the DBX707 and create something truly unique, Q by Aston Martin, the brandʼs bespoke service, offers the ultimate in customisation. With an extensive range of options, from unique graphics to tinted carbon fibre and bespoke materials for both the interior and exterior, each ‘Q by Aston Martin Commissionʼ vehicle can push the boundaries of desire and is completely tailored to the customer. Production of the DBX707 is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2022, with first deliveries planned for early in the second quarter of 2022. The base price starts at 238500 euros. ■ ▹ www.astonmartin.com
KOENIGSEGG JESKO ABSOLUT SWEDISH MASTERPIECE
Why driving along the motorway at 130 km/h in an e-sports car when you can also break the speed record of 500 km/h with the 1600 hp new Koenigsegg from the Swedish sports car forge? This bolide is undoubtedly a borderline experience.
It’s hard to believe that the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut celebrated its world premiere as a concept car at the Geneva Motor Show three years ago. After that, things got a bit quiet around the Bugatti Chiron challenger, but as we all know, “good – and fast – things” take time. The pure show car, which was only produced for the trade fair, is now followed by the first pre-production vehicle, of which Koenigsegg has just published the first pictures. The graphite grey of the super bolide immediately evokes reminiscences of a Eurofighter – the comparison is not that far-fetched, it is good that there are still the orange stripes for accentuation. As a pre-production vehicle, the Jesko Absolut has the same 5.0-litre V8 unit with twin turbocharging and ninespeed gearbox under its flat bonnet as the standard Jesko. “The Absolut feels very natural when driving. The seamless shifting, whether up or down, makes everything much quicker,” says Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh. “There are no delays, it’s very responsive and behaves exactly as you want it to. We have invested thousands of hours in CFD calculations. We have optimised the car not only from an aerodynamic and design point of view, but also from a high-speed stability point of view.” That's reassuring to hear. In any case, the designers managed to achieve a sensationally low air resistance of only 0.278. The goal of all these developments – this is definitely no secret – is to create the fastest production car in the world. The Jeskoʼs boosted V8 engine produces 1600 hp when running on E85 fuel. Combined with the aerodynamic modifications and the nine-speed gearbox, the Jesko Absolut reaches a theoretical top speed of 330 miles per hour or 531 km/h. Company founder Christian von Koenigsegg has already said that this will be the fastest car Koenigsegg ever built, now and in the future. If the 330 mph speed is correct, it would beat the average top speed of 282.9 mph (455.2 km/h) achieved by the current official record holder for production cars, the SSC Tuatara. Even the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ with its 304 mph (490 km/h) would be easily eclipsed. Bugatti is the first automobile manufacturer to break the 300 mph barrier in a production car. However, this was all unofficial as the speed was only achieved in one direction and not in opposite directions. Koenigsegg lovers will then be able to decide in future whether they want their Jesko in the racetrack-focused normal version or the Absolut variant. However, the Swedes have not yet named prices for the newcomer, but indications on the internet suggest a minimum price of 3.4 million euros for the Absolut. ■ ▹ www.koenigsegg.com
MANGUSTA GRANSPORT 45
SUCCESSFUL SYMBIOSIS OF BEAUTY AND PERFORMANCE
With its aggressive styling and exhilarating speed, the all-aluminum series Mangusta GranSport represents the perfect fusion of high performance and long range. The yacht is able to cover large distances quickly and comfortably – and to enjoy the time on board to the fullest. Mangusta yachts are handcrafted with the utmost care, they have always been synonymous with beauty and power.
When anchored or in port, the owner and the guests have many options for outdoor relaxation: an extra-large beach club, a Jacuzzi with a waterfall, and a signature upper deck where they can socialize and enjoy life to the fullest. It is not just a boat – it is a masterful blend of art and engineering that will amaze you. The significant exterior lines of the Mangusta GranSport 45 were designed by Alberto Mancini. The magnificent profile of the yacht is characterized by its modern and timeless design. As with every Mangusta yacht, the exterior and interior spaces are well balanced and connected to optimize the intense lifestyle concept that offers the luxury of living on board. Mancini loves the challenge of pushing the limits when it comes to styling. “It’s a designer’s dream because the size also makes the yacht slim,” says the star designer. “What I had in mind was a sword. I tried to find a balance between sporty and elegant and wanted to integrate the Mangusta feeling into a yacht with a raised pilothouse [RPH]. I think it’s one of the longest RPHs ever built.” There was a concern that expanding an RPH design to this extent would make the yacht too streamlined and low. “The wheelhouse is very sloping, but when you get in and sit down, it feels like a Lamborghini.” This immediately convinced the first owner who was looking for a sporty yacht. Each Mangusta interior is tailored to the tastes and preferences of the owners down to the last detail. It requires the utmost attention to even the smallest details in order to create an optimal home on the water. The interior specialists at Mangusta select only the best materials and the most skilled craftsmen ensure that every interior design is absolutely unique. The spacious main saloon on the Mangusta GranSport 45 has floor-to-ceiling windows and three large sliding doors – a classic one at the rear and two on the side, through which daylight floods the room. The protagonist of the lounge is the Cestone design sofa by Flexform, here in a spacious composition and combined with the Bangkok upholstered stool. A smart interior and exterior layout determines both the comfort of the passengers on board and the efficient operation of the ship. Mangusta defines the general standard arrangement in order to ensure the maximum enjoyment of the guests and the right separation of the areas for the crew. Thanks to the impressive use of glass, its interior is bright and catches the sun’s rays throughout the day.
The master cabin on the main deck runs the full width of the ship and features a private balcony, an ideal spot for private breakfasts or a retreat away from the main social areas. The four other cabins on board are all equipped with the modern amenities guests need and include flexible arrangement for children in bunk beds. Stepping outside, one of its nicest features is the massive 75 square meter Beach Club. Here you can relax in the sun while watching the other guests who enjoy the selection of water toys and equipment out on the water. The luxurious hot tub and infinity pool, as well as sun pads and seating, are located on the foredeck. Outdoor social areas include the huge flydeck with sunpads for lounging during the day, casual seating, a wet bar and a formal dining area for the evenings. The aft deck features a large semicircle of chairs and sofas and is the perfect spot for an evening cocktail with stunning panoramic views. The Mangusta GranSport 45 features zero speed and ride stabilizers for ultimate guest comfort. It can reach a top speed of 27 knots and has a range of 3,500 nautical miles. The shallow draft makes it suitable for cruising around the world and perfect for visiting destinations like the Bahamas. It can accommodate a crew of seven. ■ ▹ www.mangustayachts.com
