Projects from Ran Sarfati Digital Imaging This series of renderings and floor plans was completed during my work as a Visualization Specialist for Israeli Architect Ran Sarfati. The projects include residential towers, a private neighborhood, and an office space that will be constructed in Israel. For each of these projects, I worked with the architect to create computer models and 3D visualizations of the exterior facades and interior spaces. This was vital to the design process because it allowed the client to get a full understanding of what the building would look and feel like before construction.

Private Residence Proposed for Ramat Aviv, Israel This proposal for a private residence in Ramat Aviv, Israel (also featured on the cover) has a contemporary identity and a minimalist style that is derived from the Bauhaus architecture in Tel Aviv. The north facade is a cube that appears to float above the ground and unfolds into a geometric Z pattern on the south facade. The public spaces are open yet intimate and create a continuous movement to and from private spaces. The glass walls allow natural light to penetrate the interior and create a seamless transition from the interior to exterior. The concrete structure acts as a thermal mass and the large overhanging roof on the south facade limits summer heat gains.

Residence in Ashdod, Israel This contemporary duplex located in Ashdod, Israel was designed to be iconic yet simplistic and minimalist. Based on the concept of a floating cube, a concrete mass sits on a glass wall supported by a central concrete core. At night, the glass structure disappears and the mass appears to float on the light below compelling us to question the buildings visual weight.

Residence in Kfar Shmarayu, Israel

With an L shaped footprint, determined by the lotâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s geometry, the interior of this residence is designed to be a continuously flowing series of spaces interwoven with internal courtyards and gardens. The courtyards provide natural light, fresh air and act as an intermediary between the exterior and interior. The exterior walls were removed, replaced by glass with wood cladding (added for privacy when necessary). An array of clearstory windows span the house creating beams of light radiating from the interior. Concrete conjoined with steel beams create a horizontal and vertical movement on the exterior facade and give the residence a modern industrial identity.

Residence in Herzliya, Israel This home located in Herzliya, Israel, blends modern with Mediterranean. Modern materials and amenities compliment a Mediterranean motif to adhere to the neighborhoodâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s traditional style. Circulation and division of spaces are based on a central axis defined by a modern wood entrance on the south facade. The extensive use of glass on the north facade allows for sunlight to flow through the house and skylights on the north deck allow for natural light to reach the lower levels.

Residence in Moshav Bin Nun, Israel From the exterior, the building is not a home but an artistic expression, a composition, a canvas, a work of art. Doors, railings, and fixtures are hidden so the houseâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s identity as a building is not apparent. On the front facade, vertical slats of wooden cladding contrast the white concrete structure creating a strong minimalist composition. A bridge through a two story void connects the upper level bedrooms and a second story balcony creating breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Undergraduate Projects While completing my B.F.A at Miami University, I had the opportunity to work on projects that allowed me to see the world with a new perspective and challenged my thinking. As much as I studied building methods I studied how people interact with and experience architecture and how architecture changes and influences people and culture. In the summer of 2009 I lived and volunteered in Over The Rhine, a lower income neighborhood of Cincinnati. With a team of Miami University students, I designed and remodeled a unit in an affordable housing apartment complex. We redesigned the space to be used as an office that could be transformed into a community gathering space. The project featured a central conference table made from recycled lumber, that can disjoin and become a buffet table when the office is used as a community gathering space. The project won the Over The Rhine Community Housing Gold Hammer Award for our efforts and dedication to the community.

Derived from the sketches below, this hypothetical project is intended to represent the Dakine brand (an American extreme sport lifestyle brand) in 3D Space and immerse its occupants in the Dakine consumerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s high adrenaline lifestyle. The rigid angles on the front facade mimic the mountains and express energy, excitement and adventure while the cedar paneling brings the warmness of sitting in a Rocky Mountain ski lodge.

Retail Design Studio

Library Design Studio Located in the heart of the Clifton neighborhood in Cincinnati, OH, The Clifton Library is in need of a new enlarged building to accommodate the library’s growing number of users. This proposal is derived from in-depth interviews and interaction with the community and is designed with the intent of creating an iconic piece of architecture that enriches the neighborhood and serves the community’s need. The library’s cantilever forms an exterior courtyard to compliment the street by allowing for a space for public interaction, conversation and rest. The angled steel frame forms a naturally lit atrium in the core of the library. Circulation is based on this central atrium, as from it one can see where he or she wants to go and know how to get there. The lower levels are intended to be active and noisy (children’s area, periodicals, and digital media) while the upper levels are for quieter browsing and reading. The top floor extends into a roof garden for reading, reflection and expansive views of the Clifton Neighborhood.

Library Design Studio

Digital fabrication has garnered much attention because it enables the construction of complex forms that push the limits of materials and are impossible to create with conventional means. This proposal for the Tex-Fab Repeat competition in Houston, Texas, seeks to reframe the discussion beyond this, to bring focus to responsible use of materials, resources, and allowing individual creativity. I have developed a single unit that is designed to be assembled, disassembled, and then reassembled in multiple creative ways to serve different functions. Initial assembly will be a spiral sculpture Use/ Reuse in the atrium of University of Houstonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s College of Architecture to represent where students can rest, walk around, study, and hang out. After the sculpture is displayed, this kit will be donated to the University of Houstonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture to become a teaching material for a studio warm up project, a design build installation. My presentation illustrates some potential possibilities to use this for sitting, playing, parking, shelving, and so forth. The primary intent, however, is to challenge and enable the creative talent of each group to come up with their own compositional solution. Each unit is produced from cold rolled steel. It is laser cut and then cnc bent into shape.
