7th Annual
PREDICTABLE
GENETICS
PROVEN PERFORMANCE
Shorthorn & ShorthornPlus Bull and Female Sale March 4, 2017, 1 PM CST, Pawnee Rock, KS
Cattlemen, First of all, let me extend my sincerest thank you for picking up our catalog and browsing through this year’s offering. My family takes great pride in assembling this group of genetics and your interest in them never goes unnoticed. It’s hard to believe that we have written seven of these and how many ups and downs there have been in the cattle industry since we started Predictable Genetics, Proven Peformance. Somebody once told me, “good genetics will never be a bad investment” and that statement may ring more true now at these current times. To this, there is always a constant need to continue to better genetics and to stay competitive in a tighter and tougher marketplace. We feel that this offering has raised the bar to that next level. When you look through the sale offering, you will see some of the same genetics as well as some new faces. We welcomed a couple of new sire groups that fit some needs that we were being asked for, as well as continue to offer enough genetic diversity for our customers that have been with us a long time. There seems to be a good group of bulls in each category whether you need a heifer bull or a high performance sire or a mix of the two. These bulls have been brought along on a ration developed with their longevity in mind. We know their ability to stay and work in their new operations is paramount to your success. We have rigorously measured, evaluated, and cut through nearly three times as many bulls as what is being offered, so you have the ability to obtain only the top tier of our genetics. The spring bulls will be ultrasounded about the time you receive this catalog and that data will be made available on our website or by request. All bulls will have a breeding soundness exam by sale day, so they will be ready to leave and you can be confident they are ready to go to work. The replacement heifer group is far superior in quality top to bottom as we have offered for sale. We think they will go and work in many different types of operations and fit their market well. They will be ultrasounded and pelvic measured by sale day. Around the time you receive this catalog, videos of the sale offering will be available on our website, LovingFarms.com. All additional sale info will be posted there, as well as on our Facebook page. We will again be broadcasting the sale live on DVAuction.com, so make sure to get registered to bid in advance and utilize that feature if you are unable to attend in person. Also, the videos are available on their website as well. Please do not hesitate to utilize any of our sale representatives listed; they are all trusted and knowledgeable stockmen that will give you good recommendations and advice on the sale offering. The cattle are available for viewing at any time leading up to the sale. We would like to invite everyone to join us on Friday afternoon, March 3rd, to view the sale offering and stay for supper and social at 6 PM. Lunch will be served on sale day, the 4th, at 12 PM CST with the sale to begin at 1 PM. From all our family, thank you again for taking a look at the offering and giving us a chance to earn your business.

Not since Answer 9652, has a head turner like 5720 come along. He has captivated the attention of anyone that has seen these fall bulls since birth. Extremely long, huge middle, and loads of muscle expression are coupled with outstanding EPDs and ultrasound. He is backed by a cow family that has led off six of our seven bull sales. He is dominating in every aspect.
2
Simply the most powerfully constructed 4508 son to date. 5710 puts together great phenotype with a set of numbers that are heifer safe for calving ease with good performance. His three year old mother is out of a Pacesetter dam and shows a great birth to weaning spread with an average BW ratio of 104 and WW ratio of 105.

5799 is the product of one of the most blue collar cow families on the place, quietly putting top bulls in several of the last sales, including one sale topper. Put that kind of predictability with the EPD profile 5799 possesses and the sky is the limit for this young sire.
4
Marquis 127x mated with the prolific bull making Okie family is a powerful matchup. 5785’s mother is a full sib to the bull that topped our very first sale and this young cow brings those superior low maintenance traits and calving ease, that when paired with the explosive growth of Marquis, the results are obvious.

A high performance Marquis son that is great on birthweight and still stands near the top of his contemporary groups for weaning and yearling. Lining up Jakes Proud Jazz on the top and bottom of his pedigree gives him a great look with very predictable outcome.

Jazz 5744 makes a case for overlooking his EPDs and focusing on actual performance. He ratios 105, 116, and 103 for birth, weaning and yearling weights. This calf has more than enough horsepower to run with big boys.

It’s not surprising the mating of Marquis on a Jazz/Cumberland daughter will yield a great birthweight and an end product that will be moderate in his mature size. That mating also puts a lot of eye appeal into a very stout package.

A balanced set of ultrasound data on this Kaper son, ratioing 113 and 102 for REA and IMF. He puts that together with great CE numbers and moderate growth.
Four Point Count was popular nearly 50 years ago as a low maintenance and easy keeping sire. The mating of him to a high calving ease, linebred Double Duty daughter should give you restful nights during calving season and still more than adequate growth. The genetics are identical between these two, the difference you see are those of their recip mothers; one had a great one and the other a below average. We think they should mate very similar.

Another of the 1960’s era throwback calves. 5809 is sired by the still incredibly popular Leader 21st that was used to bring the belt buckle cattle era to an end. His mother is the most prolific cow to leave our place and has generated well over $100,000 in sales all across the country. These genetics are truly one of kind.

6868 is one of those sire prospects that you can’t get past in the pen and has been the pick since birth. He is the product of our newly acquired sire, Optimus, and the hands down, top Marquis daughter on the farm. His actual performance is great, his EPDs are unreal, and phenotypically you can’t miss him.
27
A little less performance than his half brother before, but 6888 has an advantage of more moderate birthweight. His mother is from our Maiden line that goes back many generations and she has done a standout job on her first two calves.

A big ribbed Profit son out of a solid 4 year old that has an average birth ratio of 101.
Feeding and Development
We employ the service of John Ney with Nutrition Solutions to help balance the feed rations as well as to monitor the intake and performance of the bulls. The bulls start out on the cow without creep feed and only relying on their mothers for weaning performance. This allows us to evaluate the performance of the cow as well as the calf. They are weaned on a high forage content mixed ration and allowed to grow at a slower pace to increase frame and give them time to develop. As final selections are made, the sale bulls are moved to a ration containing higher energy and yet maintaining a higher forage content. These bulls never see a concentrate ration and we feel that is important to a digestive system that will only have access to a forage based system post sale. Exercise is a key in the development of a young sire, we feel that it’s important to give them access to plenty of space to move to aid in their growth.

These are top tier EPDs on this heifer safe Capitalist son. He was a twin on a first calf heifer, so his actual growth numbers were skewed some, but we think the genetic potential is all here.

This 0590 son is out of a high marbling halfblood. He ratioed 104 for birth to go with EPDs in the top 10% and still ratioed 114 for weaning.
Let us partner with you: Marketing at Weaning If your operation typically sells at weaning, we have buyers ready to purchase shorthorn influenced calve without your typical market distortion (sorts on color, size,etc.). This eliminates yardage, sale expense, and essentially cuts out the middleman.
Partial Ownership to Finish If your desire is to market the cattle to finish weight and maybe your cash flow doesn’t allow for it, we have feeding partners willing to own a percentage of the feeding group. This allows the owner a cash flow up front and still be able to participate in the profitability of finish cattle marketing as well as have the option to achieve any grid based premiums. Feed will be financed to finishing date and settlement will be made at close out. This is a nice option for the producer who has been a typical market at weaning operation that wants to transition.
Retained Ownership Finishing The feed, yardage, and expenses are carried for the length of the feeding period and settled at close out. You are paid on the net of sale minus expenses. Our feeding partners have been exceptional in terms of rate of gain as well as feed conversion. They also have delivery rights for USPB and other grid based marketing opportunities. We have maintained a relationship with our feedlot partners for over 20 years and they have fed 1000s of head of Shorthorn influenced cattle. They are very much in tune with the ability of Shorthorn influenced cattle’s ability to gain and convert in the top tier of everything they feed. Allow us the opportunity to help you maximize the full value of Shorthorn genetics.

One of the most captivating heifers we have brought to public offering. This high powered Optimus daughter not only has tons of eye appeal, but is great numbered to boot. We think she has an awesome future in front her as a bull producer, but you couldn’t mate her wrong.
46
6880 is an ultra feminine Optimus daughter that reads great on paper and even better when you get in the pen with her. The Queen cow family is one of our oldest lines and for good reason, they are very maternal and have tons of longevity.

6889 is one of those really soft featured, easy doing kind of females you will keep circling back to in the sorting pen. She has bullet proof calving ease numbers and more than enough actual performance to go with them.
48
When you look at Duchess 6844, you see why we call her sire Profit. You will be extremely hard pressed to find faults. Superior calving ease, moderate growth, good carcass, and she is great to look at.
