SUPPLIES

All-purpose Thread Craft Clips

1. Align the hidden (left) zipper with the left edge of the front pocket, right sides together, and clip in place. The zipper slider should be face down and oriented toward the top of the front pocket when closed.

2. Using a zipper presser foot or a regular presser foot with a left-adjusted needle, sew the zipper to the front pocket with a ¼" seam allowance. Tip » To create a straight sti tch, don’t sew next to the zipper slider. When close to the slider, use the handwheel to set the needle down into the fabric, pausing when it is on its way back up, but sti ll in the fabric. This needle placement will prevent skipped sti tches. Lift the presser foot, and move the slider out of the way. Then lower the presser foot and conti nue sewing.

3. Align the front body lining along the same edge of the zipper tape, right sides together, and clip in place.

The zipper should be sandwiched between the lining and exterior

fabric. Repeat step 2 to sew the front body lining to the zipper. Then fl ip the exterior and lining fabrics open, revealing the zipper. Tip » Sew with the front pocket fabric face up and chase the previous sti tch, using it as a guide.

4. Align the free edge of the zipper tape with the right-hand edge of one side panel, right sides together, and clip in place. The closed zipper slider and button stud should be facing each other. This ensures that your pocket is not upside down! Repeat step 2 to sew the side panel to the zipper.

5. Align a long edge of the side panel lining with the same edge of the zipper tape, right sides together, and clip in place. The zipper should be sandwiched between the layers of fabric. Sew the side panel lining to the zipper using a ¼" seam allowance. Flip open all layers of fabric, revealing the zipper.
