Farmer’s Field School Kick Off
On March 27, 2012 a Memorandum of Agreement was forged between Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Department of Agriculture (DA) entitled “Agrikulturang Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program”. Thus, by virtue of such memorandum, DSWD Field Office No. 02 through its Sustainable Livelihood coordinated with DA- Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Region 2 to develop a workable partnership in the implementtion of capacity building and livelihood enterprise program for the Pantawid Pamilya

concept of “Farmer Field School (FFS)” was born. This season long training will benefit the Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries from the municipalities of Piat and Sto. Niňo, province of Cagayan on organic vegetable production and integrated pest management or IPM. Farmer Field School aims to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge, skills and hands-on experience on the package of applicable technologies in vegetable production with the IPM approaches.
From Theory to Application Members of Buklod SEA-K Association put into practice learning from the season long training of the Farmer’s Field School. Through the efforts of DSWD SLP, DA-ATI, Local Government Unit of Piat and Cagayan State University-Piat Campus the project had a successful take off. The training utilized participative approach and ex-
periential learning to further equip the program participants on the tenets of organic farming. As of the moment, participants were able to yield produce form the three harvest cycles. Thus, enable them to augment their daily needs. Illustration 2: Hands on demonstration of SKA members on planting.
