Built for the future.

To build its cars, Volkswagen draws on a proud heritage of technological innovation and world-class engineering. It expresses itself in subtle ways; the easy integration of devices and systems; the effortless driving and smooth performance; and the seamless marriage of mechanical, electronic and computerised components.

All of which should be largely invisible to you, the driver. Technology is a tool to help make your drive safer, easier or more enjoyable, not an end in itself. Every technology in the Golf has a specifi c purpose and will play its part in helping you get on with your busy life.

01. TSI engine

Volkswagen’s TSI technology includes turbo-charged petrol engines with direct injection. The innovative engineering boasts excellent torque and power at low revolutions – for you that means lower fuel consumption and fewer emissions.

02. TDI engine

Volkswagen’s cutting-edge TDI engines with Diesel Particulate Filters feature Common Rail technology that injects precise amounts of fuel at extremely high pressure. This not only results in a cleaner burning engine – and years of hard-wearing durability – but exceptional fuel economy, impressive torque and compelling performance whatever the drive.

03. DSG - Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) (not pictured)

DSG is an advanced 6 or 7-speed transmission in which the clutch and gearshift are controlled electronically. What makes DSG unique is that the next gear is already pre-selected and awaiting power to be transferred, resulting in a gear change that

takes only 3-4 hundredths of a second. The benefi ts are virtually no interruption to power, traction or acceleration, and additional fl exibility. Furthermore, because it ensures optimum transmission of the engine power, DSG provides excellent fuel consumption and driving satisfaction

04. Adaptive Chassis Control

● The optional Adaptive Chassis Control electronically adjusts the damper characteristics for each wheel, ensuring optimum driving comfort for any road surface or driving situation. It achieves the optimum balance between driving comfort and driving dynamics, based on a newly developed control algorithm. 04

05. Hill Start Assist (HSA) (not pictured)

Hill Start Assist holds the vehicle stationary for 1.5 seconds on hills with an incline greater than 5 percent, when the foot brake is released, by temporarily locking the brake pressure. This intelligent feature provides a comfortable hill start, which importantly avoids any rolling back.

06. BlueMotion Technology

BlueMotion Technology is the name Volkswagen has given to its range of innovations and intelligent technologies that make its fun to drive, fuel effi cient and more environmentally-friendly. On the Golf 103TDI Comfortline with BlueMotion Technology these include the Start/Stop System and Brake Energy Recuperation, both of which are simple in theory and robust in application. The BlueMotion Technology brand mark lets you know you’re driving one of the cleanest, most energy-effi cient vehicles in Volkswagen’s range.
