The Olympics-themed puzzles are arranged in groups of 5, each of these ‘pentads’ designed to be published on a separate day in the form of pentathlon. A completed pentathlon from any of the days entitles the puzzler to enter the draw. On some days the puzzles are difficult, on others they are easier. In this way everyone can have a chance.

First published by the Guardian during the Barcelona Olympics in August 1992. The puzzles with hints and explanations are constructed to exercise the five different parts of the brain responsible for verbal, numerical, logical, spatial and perceptual skills.
