he beautiful blend of manicured garden and wild Georgia woods at Callaway Gardens draws photographer Alexandria Stillwater like a bee to honey. “I love to explore the beauty of nature through my work. The contrast between the untamed beauty of wild spaces and the carefully designed spaces at Callaway gardens makes a beautiful picture,” Stillwater says, “I tried to capture the small details and the large landscapes that make Georgia so lovely.” Stillwater’s favorite spot at Callaway Gardens is the Sibley Horticultural Center’s greenhouse. “It’s like you’ve stepped into another world. You know you’re still in Georgia, but you’re surrounded by succulents growing from rocky crags and banana trees. It’s great.” She also recommends catching the azaleas during peak blooming in the early spring. “The azalea bowl is gorgeous in the spring. The pictures I took don’t even look real!” Finally, take a trip by the chapel during the organ concerts to float wistfully between the lake and the woods while the deep organ notes fall on your ears.

Where the woods meet the garden
The rustic corners of Callaway are often the most charming.
Reflections at the lake
The azaleas are gorgeous in the spring.
The large vistas are breathtaking.
The details are equally impressive, like this lovely climbing rose.
The chapel’s native stone plays off the stoic architecture.
