SINS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAWS OF GOD OR OF A MORAL CODE. • THE 10 COMMANDMENTS • THE 6 PRECEPTS OF THE CHURCH

HOW DID SIN COME ABOUT ? •THE WORLD IS GOOD. BUT SATAN WORKING ON THE “FREE WILL” OF MAN, WAS ABLE TO GET HIM, THROUGH THE WEAKNESS OF A WOMAN TO TRANSGRESS THE FIRST EVER COMMANDMENT OF GOD AT THE GARDEN OF EDEN. •MAN CONTINUED TO SIN AGAINST THE 10 COMMANDMENTS UP TO THIS DAY, UP TO THIS VERY MOMENT.

KINDS OF SINS • ORIGINAL – THE FIRST SIN COMMITTED BY OUR FIRST PARENTS, ADAM & EVE WHICH COST MAN THE LOSS OF GOD’S FRIENDSHIP AND PRIVILEGE TO ENTER HEAVEN • MORTAL - DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD’S COMMANDMENTS IN A SERIOUS MANNER WITH FULL KNOWLEDGE & CONSENT. • VENIAL - LESS SERIOUS COMMISSION & WITHOUT FULL CONSENT AGAINST A MORAL CODE.

-

”THIS YOU SHALL SAY TO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL: ’ I HAVE BROUGHT YOU UP OUT OF EGYPT & HAVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF YOU. YOU SHALL BE MY CHOSEN PEOPLE & MY TREASURE IF YOU WILL OBEY ME & KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.”

MOSES TOLD THE PEOPLE & SAID:

“ WE WILL DO WHAT THE LORD HAS COMMANDED.”

THEN GOD WROTE THE 10 COMMANDMENTS ON 2 TABLES OF STONE AND GAVE IT TO

BAPTISM • THE SACRAMENT THAT GIVES NEW LIFE OF SANCTIFYING GRACE BY WHICH WE BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD AND HEIRS OF HEAVEN. o CHRIST HIMSELF HAD TO BE BAPTIZED o “UNLESS ONE IS BORN AGAIN OF THE WATER AND THE SPIRIT, HE CANNOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD. (John 3:3) o “GO OUT TO THE WORLD AND PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS TO ALL CREATION. HE WHO BELIEVES AND IS BAPTIZED WILL BE SAVED: HE WHO REFUSES TO BELIEVE WILL BE CONDEMNED. (Mark 16:15-16) • BAPTISM WIPES OUT “ORIGINAL SIN”. IT AVOIDS GOING TO LIMBO, THE REASON WHY THE CHURCH REQUIRES EVEN BABIES TO BE BAPTIZED.

• CONFIRMATION IS THE SACRAMENT WHERE THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES TO US IN A SPECIAL WAY, STRENGTHENS OUR FAITH AND ENABLES US TO PROFESS AND DEFEND IT EVEN WITH OUR OWN LIFE. o PERFORMED BY ONE HIGHER IN AUTHORITY THAN THE ONE WHO ADMINISTERED THE BAPTISM (BISHOP or MONSIGNOR) o THIS SACRAMENT PROVIDES GRACES FOR OUR GROWING-UP YEARS, WHERE WE WILL ENCOUNTER VARIED TEMPTATIONS, WHICH EVEN CHRIST WAS SUBJECTED TO.

PENANCE •

THE SACRAMENT ADMINISTERED BY A PRIEST, WHO AS AN AGENT OF GOD, FORGIVES SINS COMMITTED AFTER BAPTISM, WHEN THE SINNER IS HEARTILY SORRY FOR THEM, SINCERELY CONFESSES THEM AND IS WILLING TO MAKE REPARATION FOR THEM. o JESUS CHRIST INSTITUTED THIS SACRAMENT AS THE BRIDGE TO RE-UNITE US TO GOD. IN RE-UNITING WE ARE BROUGHT BACK TO ENJOY OUR EARNED MERITS WE HAD BEFORE. NOTE THAT THE AUTHORITY TO FORGIVE OR RETAIN SINS WAS DELEGATED BY THE LORD TO THE PRIESTS.

HOLY EUCHARIST • “A THANKSGIVING”. THE GREATEST SACRAMENT, IT DOES NOT ONLY GIVE GRACE, BUT GOD HIMSELF WHO IS THE SOURCE OF ALL GRACES, IS PRESENT IN THIS SACRAMENT. o OUR LORD’S “GIVING OF THANKS” TO GOD ARE FOUND IN : MATT26:25-28; MARK 14:22-24; LUKE 22:19-20 AND PAUL IN COR. 11:23-29.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK • THE SACRAMENT ADMINISTERED BY A PRIEST USING BLESSED OIL WITH PRAYERS, WHICH GIVE STRENGTH TO THE SOUL AND HEALTH TO THE BODY, WHEN IN DANGER OF DEATH. o HOW IS IT DONE? • ANOINTING ON THE FOREHEAD • ANOINTING ON THE HANDS APOSTOLIC BLESSING – SOMETIMES CALLED “THE LAST BLESSING” OF THE PRIEST, CARRIES WITH IT A PLENARY INDULGENCE AT THE VERY MOMENT OF DEATH. INDULGENCE ELIMINATES THE EFFECTS OF SIN, ENABLING THE SOUL TO GO STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN.

HOLY ORDERS • THE SACRAMENT THROUGH WHICH MEN RECEIVE THE POWER AND TO PERFORM THE SACRED DUTIES OF BISHOPS, PRIESTS, AND OTHER MINISTERS OF THE CHURCH.

 THE 3 STAGES OF THIS SACRAMENT : • THE OFFICE OF THE DEACON • THE OFFICE OF THE PRIEST • THE OFFICE OF THE BISHOP o POSITIONS OF HONOR : • THE CARDINAL • THE ARCHBISHOP • THE MONSIGNOR

MATRIMONY • THE SACRAMENT BY WHICH A BAPTIZED MAN AND WOMAN, WHO LOVE EACH OTHER, BIND THEMSELVES FOR LIFE IN ALAWFUL MARRIAGE AND RECEIVE THE GRACES OF GOD TO DISCHARGE THEIR DUTIES. o MUST BE BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN AND IT MUST BE FOR LIFE. o GOD MADE MARRIAGE AN INSTRUMENT FOR PROCREATION. THE INTIMATE UNION OF THE REPRODUCTIVE ACT SHOULD BE UNDERSTOOD NOT ONLY AS SOMETHING GOOD & ENJOYABLE, BUT AS SOMETHING SACRED AND HOLY. o OBSERVE THE LAW OF THE CHURCH ON MARRIAGE .
