The Tweed Coat is a versatile cuddly lightweight garment that is a suitable project for an average skilled knitter. Stocking stitch is used throughout with rib bands and collar.
The yarn used is Silkroad DK Tweed which combines merino wool, silk and cashmere with tiny nubs of contrasting colour to create a rustic textured fabric. This yarn is extremely soft to the touch and (unlike many other tweeds on the market) can be worn directly against the skin.
Silkroad DK Tweed is 135m (147 yards) to the 50g ball which makes this a very lightweight yarn when knitted into fabric.
The idea behind this Tweed Coat originated with the Kitchen Cardigan. This is the garment that you throw on as you walk out the back kitchen door to sweep the step or to collect herbs from the garden for cooking. Its also a handy item to wear around the house in place of a dressing gown - and oh so stylish!
