PROGRAM GUIDE
MAYORAL MESSAGE
2019 Knitfest Yarn & Fibre Arts Festival On behalf of the 320,000 residents of the Sunshine Coast, I would like to welcome all new and returning yarn and fibre artists and visitors from across Australia to Maleny for the fourth annual Knitfest Yarn and Fibre Arts Festival. As a healthy, smart, creative region, we take great pleasure in hosting arts and cultural events which enable talented artisans and craft groups to showcase and share their skills. Here on the Sunshine Coast, we are fortunate to have a local textile industry that has a strong focus on sustainable and
handmade production. Through the Sunshine Coast Arts Plan 2018-2038, council recognises opportunities to develop and grow creative and cultural industries and was able to fund this event through the Major Events Sponsorship program. Our beautiful hinterland town of Maleny has embraced this year’s Knitfest theme of Australiana. Whether you’re a professional fibre artist or simply love dabbling in arts and crafts at home, I know you’ll love your time at the Festival. Enjoy your time in Maleny and hopefully you will have time to explore all that our Sunshine Coast has to offer. With best regards Mayor Mark Jamieson Sunshine Coast Council
WELCOME
Welcome to the Fourth Knitfest - Yarn & Fibre Arts festival Knitfest is back again for its fourth big festival. Last year we had 10,000 visitors over this crafty fun filled weekend showing the popularity of fibre arts. Knitfest aims to showcase the many talented Fibre Artists this country has to offer, while inspiring everyone to get off the couch and try something new in the world of Fibre Arts. We give support to the many Fibre artists, arts and crafts groups, knitting for causes groups, artisan groups and craft suppliers in a fun filled family weekend.
We have great support from our community, local Council and business’s alike. Our wonderful team of enthusiastic yarnbombers and fibre artists share their amazing skills. They have generously volunteered their time and efforts to make this a wonderful experience for us all. Please enjoy what we have to offer and don’t forget to dress up in your handmade woolies, beanies and scarves. Deborah Swain Festival & Creative Director www.knitfest.com.au knitfest@hotmail.com Facebook: Knitfest
