INSPIRED BY THE LANDSCAPE High Desert yarn colorways are inspired by the rich flora and majestic physical geography of the region—native wildflowers, like Larkspur and Indian paintbrush. Big Sagebrush and native grasses in rock-studded fields under big skies serve as the rangeland for the rugged Rambouillet Merino sheep, bred for the High Desert environment.

WOOL OF THE ANDES Wonderfully wooly in 100+ colors, our bestselling Wool of the Andes continues to be a fan favorite since it was introduced in 2010! What makes Peruvian wool so special? Developed by crossing the finest Corriedale and Merino sheep breeds, Peruvian wool is a strong fiber with an excellent softness quotient. We love Wool of the Andes for long lasting sweaters and accessories as well as stunning colorwork projects. Available in three weights | 100% Peruvian Highland Wool. Sport: $3.49/50g skein - 137 yds. Worsted: $3.49/50g skein - 110 yds. Bulky: $5.99/100g hank - 137 yds. Wool, one of nature’s most versatile fibers, is naturally sourced from animals such as sheep. Known for its uncanny ability to withstand a great deal of use, wool boasts antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, while remaining breathable, insulating, cooling, and also water resistant. It’s no wonder we love wool fibers for both garment and home décor projects! Sustainability at its finest. We appreciate wool not only for its softness, but for its many eco-friendly qualities as well.

•
Items made with wool typically have longer lifespans than textiles made with other fibers.
•
Sheep are part of the Earth’s natural carbon cycle. They subsist on plants, consuming the organic carbon contained within and converting it to wool.
•
Wool textile products tend to be washed less frequently and at colder temperatures, resulting in a lower environmental impact.
•
Best of all: It’s 100% biodegradable.

ANATOMY OF A SWEATER Sweater construction and fit can be tricky when first getting started. Here is everything you need to know about sweater construction and anatomy to guide you on your way to making a sweater that is just right!
TYPES OF SWEATERS CARDIGAN A sweater that opens and closes up the front with buttons or a zipper.
PULLOVER A sweater that gets pulled over the head to wear.
PARTS OF A SWEATER CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE The measurement around the sweater aligned with the fullest part of the chest. SHOULDER The measurement from neckline to tip of shoulder or shoulder seam.
SLEEVE The measurements for the fabric that covers the arm, often measured as both length and circumference. sleeve
WRIST CIRCUMFERENCE The measurement around the bottom of the sleeve at the narrowest end.
neck opening shoulder
HEM The measurement of any border stitch or ribbing at the bottom of the body. NECKLINE/COLLAR The measurement of any border stitch, ribbing, or patterning for a collar around the neck opening.

NECKLINES
EASE & TYPES OF FIT
CREW NECK A crew neck is a round neckline that is often close to the neck and accentuated by ribbing stitches to allow enough stretch to get the project over your head.
NEGATIVE EASE A sweater has negative ease when the garment measurements are smaller than the body measurements. This means that the garment will need to be really stretchy, and it will be very tight fitting when worn.
NO EASE A sweater has no ease when the garment and the body are the exact same size. This will still be a very tight-fitting garment, as most garments have at least a little bit of positive wearing ease.
Very Close-Fitting
Close-Fitting
A very close-fitting garment is going to have 2-4" of negative ease. You’ll need the garment to be a bit stretchy to fit. This type of fit is most popular with a tube top or a very close-fitting tank top.
A close-fitting garment has no ease, so the measurements for the body and the garment are the same. This garment will also need a little stretch to allow for movement.
TURTLENECK A turtleneck is a long tube of fabric that comes up and around the neck. It’s often quite snugfitting, so ribbing is a common stitch pattern. If the turtleneck is long enough, it’s sometimes folded over to create a double layer of warmth around the neck. COWL NECK A cowl neck is very similar to a turtleneck. It’s also a long tube of fabric, but it’s not as tight-fitting and can drape down around the neckline. V-NECK A V-Neck creates a V-shape in the front of the sweater and involves a little more shaping with increasing or decreasing of stitches to create its shape. BOAT NECK A boat neck is a wide-open neckline often running from about one shoulder to the other. Boat necks are great because they can be created by sewing together a rectangular front and back and minimizing neckline shaping. SCOOP NECK A scoop neck is a rounded neckline that is much more loosefitting than the crew neck.
POSITIVE EASE A sweater has positive ease when the garment measurements are larger than the body measurements. Most garments have at least a little bit of positive ease so you can move around in them. Classic Fit
A classic fit garment has 2-4" of positive ease, which is sometimes considered wearing ease. These garments will still feel quite fitted, but you’ll be able to move around easily even if the garment doesn’t have a ton of stretch to it. Loose Fit
A loose-fitting garment will have about 4-6" of positive ease. This will have a more relaxed feel to it, and you’ll want to take the project’s drape into account to keep it from feeling too boxy. Oversized
An oversized garment has 6" or more of positive ease. These garments are loose and super comfortable to wear. Again, just check that the drape of the fabric you create matches that loose, flowy feeling.
QUICK TIP
Do not hang your knit or crocheted sweaters as this can stretch them out!
1.800.574.1323 www.knitpicks.com | 21
FINDING YOUR SIZE MEASURE YOUR CHEST The first step to finding your perfect size is gathering an accurate chest measurement for yourself (or whoever you are making a garment for). You’ll need a tape measure and a tight-fitting top to get a precise measurement. Use the tape measure to measure around the fullest (largest) part of your chest, taking care not to pull it too tight. DETERMINE THE TYPE OF FIT AND AMOUNT OF EASE YOU WANT For most sweaters, we recommend 2-4" of positive ease, but you might want to adjust that based on the project you choose and the type of fit that seems appropriate. Add the amount of ease you would like to your chest measurement (example: 2" of positive ease plus a 36" chest means you’ll want a sweater that measures around 38"). FIND THE CLOSEST “FINISHED SIZE” MEASUREMENT Knit Picks patterns will list the chest measurement at the top of the pattern under “Finished Measurements,” right next to the listing of how much yarn you’ll need. Pick the size that is closest in measurement to your chest plus your desired amount of ease (based on the example above, we'd pick the size with a 38” finished chest measurement). DOUBLE CHECK THE OTHER MEASUREMENTS FOR THAT SIZE TO SEE IF THEY ALIGN As you look through the rest of the pattern, look for the sweater schematic. The schematic will list other important measurements like the length of the sleeve or the width of the shoulder. Make sure these align with the rest of your body measurements, or find a sweater with a fit you really like and measure that to see if the finished measurements align. MAKE ANY MODIFICATIONS YOU NEED If your finished measurements don’t align, you might find a different size that better aligns with your measurements overall, OR you can alter the pattern a little to make sure your sleeves won’t be too long, etc.
REMEMBER!
You need to make sure your gauge matches the listed gauge in the pattern. If your gauge is off, you’ll never be able to get an accurate fit for your sweater.

Interchangeable Circulars The foundation of the modern knitter’s toolbox. Detachable needle tips and cables interchange to form a wide range of gauges and lengths on demand. Available in 7 colorways and 13 sizes | Shown left in Majestic, starts at $5.99. Foursquare Tips They’re a little different and a lot of fun! We took the same smooth, laminated birch as our popular Majestic needles and squared them. The slightly rounded corners provide a comfortable extra grip for your fingers and yarn, helping to keep your hands limber and your stitches even. We love these needles for beginner or "tight" knitters as their unique shape helps keep stitches loose and even. Shown below. Tips start at $5.99.
Short Interchangeables Shorter tips and special length cables designed to make smaller circumference projects —like hats and sleeves— easier to manage. Available in 4 colorways and 7 sizes | Shown in Foursquare, tips starts at $5.49.

Double Pointed Needles Featuring tapered points at both ends for a classic solution to circular knitting and especially for small circumference projects, like socks.
DPN STRAIGHT AND FIXIES ON WHITE IN SUNSTRUCK/P CABLES
Available in 5 colorways and 22 sizes | Shown in Sunstruck, starts at $5.09.
Fixed Circulars These non-kinking needle tips are permanently connected to cables of specific length, useful in smaller gauge projects that don’t accommodate Interchangeable needle construction, or for large, flat knit projects. LEARNING CENTER Socks: the ultimate cozy accessory Portable and quick, with infinite variety and amazing gift potential, it's not hard to see why so many knitters think that socks are the best projects ever and everyone should knit them. Our Learning Center has meticulous tutorials and directions intended for the absolute sock beginner that will show you just how simple and easy socks can be. Detailed video tutorials guide you every step of the way, with instructions for both toe up and top down methods, and lots of techniques you may want to try out in your sock knitting adventures. After your first (of many) socks are off the needles, you're sure to agree that socks are the ultimate summer knitting project! Knitting in the Round
Kitchener Stitch
If you've only ever knit flat, or in the round around a large circumference with a circular needle, you'll need to use a new method in order to knit around a small circumference for socks.
The Kitchener Stitch is a fantastic way to seamlessly attach two rows of live stitches. For socks, the Kitchener Stitch is mostly used to finish the toes of top down socks, and close up afterthought heels.
Judy's Magic Cast On Excellent for starting toe up socks, this method casts on already-joined stitches along the top and bottom.

Buy more, save more! PURCHASE 4 SKEINS OF KINDRED AND GET A 5TH FREE WITH CODE KINDREDB4*
Airy soft with naturally complex colors, Kindred is the perfect blend of Pima cotton and baby alpaca. Kindred features a light, lofty ply that gives the alpaca fibers room to bloom while cotton strands gracefully twine throughout, giving this blend more substantial strength than pure alpaca. As each skein is dyed, the two fibers absorb the dye differently, resulting in a marled effect unique to this luxurious yarn. This is our go-to blend for next-to skin soft projects and for knitters who are looking for a wool-free yarn. We love this yarn for bouncy accessories and layering pieces featuring lightweight coziness. DK | 68% Baby Alpaca, 32% Peruvian Pima Cotton. $7.99/50g ball - 115 yds. Colors shown, first row from left: Mulled Wine 28677, Raspberry Cordial 28678, Spice 28679, Goldenrod 28680, and Cactus 28682.
