Kai diverts from the status quo and introduces the Seki Magoroku Shoso: a collection of kitchen knives that clearly distinguishes itself from other Kai collections with its modern design.
KAI SEKI MAGOROKU SHOSO While the previous Kai collections were enhanced with handles made from wood or plastic these Shoso’s are completely forged from stainless steel. The blade seamlessly merges with the handle. In addition, the ergonomically-shaped handles are enhanced with small diamond-shaped cut-outs that offer you extra grip when you use the knife. Characterizing for Japanese knives, and thus also for this collection, is the thin blade and the light handle. This combination ensures that the knives are balanced. The knives from the collection have a convex grind. This reduces friction between the food that is cut and the blade. Talking about the blade, it is made from Japanese 1K6 stainless steel with a hardness of 58 HRC. This top-quality steel ensures that the knife remains sharp for a long time. This, however, doesn’t mean that you have to wait until the knives are blunt before you can sharpen them. After all, sharpening will extend the life of your knives!

HULTAFORS PREMIUM AXES
T
he roots of Hultafors can be found in Hults Bruk, Östergötland, Sweden, where, in 1697, the original axe forge was founded. To honour old traditions and the craftsmanship the axes are named after famous blacksmiths and areas surrounding Hults Bruk.
For the production of this collection Hultafors paid extra attention to the details. The axe heads, for instance, are made from Swedish steel and hit 40-60 times to improve the density and sustainability. The edge is hardened to make sure it is strong enough to stay sharp without breaking, but can also be sharpened. Basically everything you can expect from an axe head. Hultafors uses American hickory wood for the handle. This wood is exceptional in absorbing blows without breaking. The manual assembly, combined with the ironwork leaves you with reliable axes that can be used for generations.

Each knife from the Crafter collection is enhanced with the traditional Wüsthof blades. The brass rivets in the smoked oak handle make the whole look very rustic. The blade is forged from one piece of stainless steel that can withstand rust and corrosion and is razor-sharp. Each knife is sharpened using Wüsthof’s PEtec technology with laser technique and precision until ultimate sharpness is achieved.

Ingredients • 100
ml olive oil • 3 gloves of garlic, squeezed • Half of a white onion, chopped • 1 chilli, finely chopped without seeds • 3 tb red wine vinegar • 2 tb fresh oregano • 10 grams of parsley • A dash of salt and pepper
Chimichurri salsa Cut the herbs and combine all ingredients. Place the salsa in the fridge for an hour or so to make sure the flavours will be absorbed.

The Fastball is one of the most interesting Gerber knives of 2019. The sleek and stylish design is made to perform time and time again. The wharncliffe-style blade has a pointed tip that turns opening boxes into child’s play. The blade is made from premium CPM S30V steel and works with the B.O.S.S. ball bearings system. An innovative system that, combined with the flipper mechanism, makes the knife easy to open. Because of its slim design you can easily carry this knife in your pocket. It is remarkable really that Gerber was able to pull this off for such a reasonable price. Not convinced yet? As cherry on top this stunner is made in the United States. Like the baseball fastball, which gave this knife its name, not everyone saw this knife coming.

On the inside the Entity bags are enhanced with the same features as the other collections. On the outside, however, you can find a couple of important differences. The outside of the Entity, for instance, is made from charcoal grey 500D-nylon with a polyurethane coating. It gives these bags a top-quality, cool look. The Lionsteel B40 is a brand-new knife from the Lionsteel bushcraft collection. Anyone who knows Lionsteel knows that they produce phenomenal fixed knives with an amazing price-quality ratio. The B40 is no exception.

The first thing you notice about the B40 is that the handle is quite angular. An uncommon but well thought out choice. Why? Because of these facets the handle won’t turn in your hand and you will always have an amazing grip. Incredibly practical. Do you prefer a micarta handle? Or one made from wood or G10? Don’t worry. There are five different versions of the B40 to make sure there is something for everyone. Even though Lionsteel is an Italian company they used Sleipner steel. This Austrian tool steel offers an amazing sharpness retention, combined with considerable toughness. An ingenious detail is the angular end of the handle. This edge is sharp enough to effectively create sparks with a firesteel. This detail clearly demonstrates that Lionsteel is an expert when it comes to bushcraft knives and that they know what they are talking about. We expected nothing less.

K A-BAR BECKER BK62 KEPHART
At the end of the nineteenth century the Field and Stream magazine published the adventures of Horace Kephart in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. He was one of the firsts who introduced the outdoor life to ‘ordinary men and women’. His books are legendary, just like his Kephart Sheath Knife. Throughout the years many different versions of the Kephart knife were produced. However, the edition Ethan Becker produced for KA-BAR is probably the most special. After all, he was able to make the dream of any bushcraft enthusiast come true: he bought an original Kephart Sheath Knife. The only edition that is privately owned. The other can be found in a museum. When designing it he definitely had the most accurate blueprint at hand. On the basis of this 100 year old knife the BK62 was designed. Made from 1095 carbon steel, walnut wood: traditional materials for a knife such as this. The shape of the blade and handle are seemingly simple, but work extremely well. It is for a reason that the KA-BAR Becker BK62 turned out to be a winner shortly after its introduction. Kephart would have been proud.
