Writing Short Literature Essays: A Textbook with Exercises for Slovenian Students is the first book to focus specifically on difficulties Slovenian students have when writing in English about literature. As such, it is particularly concerned with intercultural aspects of literary criticism. After all, Slovenian conventions differ at times from English conventions. This minor dissonance can result in what seem to English ears to be howlers like "we know this is poetry because there are metaphors" or "the author intentionally includes many figures of speech in her poem," or frustratingly vague truisms like "the choice of words is what makes this poem excellent."
