How to enroll? To sign up for classes using the online method: On the Koehler & Dramm’s Institute of Floristry website (www.kdiof.com), click on the ‘Course/Classes/ Events’ tab which is below and to the right of the institute’s logo (near the top of the website.) Go down to ‘Classes/Courses,’ and slide to the right and click on ‘Calendar.’ This will bring you to a listing of classes that are available for the current month. The day of the classes will be to the left, and the name of the class will be to the right. You can scroll down to find all of the current month’s class listings. To view the next month’s classes, look under the ‘Calendar’ heading at the top of the screen. You will see a picture of a calendar, or an icon of a calendar. To the right of this it will say, i.e., ‘ < JANUARYFEBRUARY >’ Use the arrow buttons to move ahead in the calendar year, or to move back in the calendar year. The arrow on the left moves back in the year, the arrow on the right moves ahead in the year. When you have found the class/es and date/s you want to attend, click on the class name, then on the ‘Read More’ button to the right. Click on the ‘Tickets’ button. It is green. On the next screen, enter the number of people attending the class under ‘Quantity.’ Press ‘Order Now.’ It is also a green button. On the next screen enter: your name, credit/debit card information and billing information. Floristry 1: Introductory Design 40 hours You will be introduced to an extensive supply of fresh flowers and foliage. The primary media used is fresh flowers, with some interjections of other media. Taping, wiring and bow-making are covered in conjunction with an orientation to the course. Core elements of design are covered in designs such as the basic free-standing, three-sided, hand-tie and vase designs as well as corsages, basic wedding and tribute/ sympathy designs. Associate instructors will introduce you to pricing and profiting in a floral shop, and how to work with your Koehler & Dramm representatives in purchasing fresh flowers, hardgoods and plants. Fast Track Includes: Care & handling, vase design, foam design, celebration design, bridal bouquets, corsages & boutonnieres.

As a student, you will also gain the knowledge of flowers and foliage and how to care for them. You will also learn how to design, care, and handle tropical flowers, which requires special care. In addition to learning the finer points of designing with flowers, you will also learn how to run a great business that keeps your customers coming back. Between design sessions, you will learn how to price your designs, tactics for buying and selling flowers, and customer service skills to maintain a successful business.
Floristry 2: Intermediate 40 Hours* After gaining the foundations of introducing floral design, you will dive deeper into what makes a good designer. As part of the class, you will be able to network with other designers as driven as you, define your art and design styles in a way that works for you, and put your passion into your work while still accomplishing what your customers are looking for. The instructors will step up the pace, teaching you how to have speed and accuracy in designs, how to add ribbon to designs, how to create beautiful designs with a variety of flowers, and how to use different containers and decorative accents to create custom designs.

This class is the next step to adding skill and confidence to your floral design. By the end of the course, you will be able to take your skills and construct designs within a number of styles including (but not limited to): Ikebana, Windswirl, Topiary, Formal

Floristry 3: Advanced* 40 hours
Floristry 4: Masterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Class* 40 hours
As a student, you will add to your portfolio of skills by advancing your knowledge in formal linear design. You will also learn advanced hand tying for bouquets, how to use balance, harmony, line, space, form, texture, and other design styles to create magazine cover worthy designs.
Knowledge is power. In this class, you will learn how to connect with consumers and develop communication skills necessary to attract customers to your store. Aside from the interpretive designing you will be doing, you will also be learning how to develop community relations, photograph your designs to create appeal and interest, and how to use social media and other marketing techniques to bring in a variety of clientele. You will learn how to sell your designs both in person and in phone conversations. Instructors will teach you how to use words to create an image for the customer.
Visual appeal is what customers look for, and you will learn how to appeal to your clientele. As a trained designer, you will be able to take back knowledge on how to sell specific designs to your clients, introduce new products to your customer base, and design for a range of needs including parties, homes, and current trends.
In addition to learning how to create master designs, you will be given the tools on how to create a portfolio of your designs. Instructors will guide you through the basics of creating both online and hard copies to showcase and sell your designs. Your portfolio will be a unique interpretation of what customers are looking for. Developing a signature design style as well as networking with other floral designers will help you to create a successful business. Participation in a design competition is required for this course, and you will learn the finer points of competing including interpreting the themes and rules, the steps to creating a winning design, evaluation criteria, what the judges look for, proper pricing, and more. As a student, you will leave the class having the skills and knowledge to define your style and stand out from the competition. Explore, define, and imagine!
Perfecting your craft and emerging as a unique designer who can adapt to any request is the next step in becoming a professional floral designer. By taking this class, you will be able to gain speed, confidence, and accuracy in constructing advanced designs. Designs you will learn include but are not limited to: Sheltered Meadow, Bridge, Botanical, Caged, Collage, and Landscape. Potter’s Bench Profits* 18 hours This class will increase your plant knowledge and assist in answering your clients’ plant-related questions. Green & blooming plants are covered; care & handling, planting gardens and working with commercial accounts make up a good portion, along with designing. *This class is a requirement for a Diploma in Floral Arts & Sciences. DAY SCHEDULE One week of Monday-Tuesday, 7:00 am-5:00 pm August 1-2
Wedding/Celebration Design* 40 hours This course encompasses Bridal & Bridesmaids Bouquets, Personal Work (Boutonnieres, Hairpieces, Corsages), Flower Girl & Ring Bearer designs, Reception Space Designs, Add-ons, and the core points in Selling & Booking a Wedding. You can now delve further into the art of creating a customer’s perfect wedding while staying in control of the essential necessities to keep all involved parties on track. Todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Tribute Designs* 40 hours Tribute and sympathy design work is an ever-changing, profitable market, and often, the backbone of many floral businesses. You will introduce the student to traditional and contemporary design techniques and trends, which include: Celebration, Home, Vase, Set Design, Standing Sprays, Casket Sprays, Lid Pieces and Cremation urns. DAY SCHEDULE One week of Monday-Friday 7:00 am-4:00 pm June 13-17
Permanent Botanical Design* 8 hours x 5 days You will learn to identify and create permanent botanical floral designs. We will create three separate designs. There are no substitutions for the project collections. When you learn the procedures and mechanics you will be able to recreate many designs. There is a lab fee for each classTools needed for the Permanent Botanical Class include: heavy-duty wire cutter, a smaller wire cutter, ribbon, scissors and knife. Bridal Bouquets* 32 hours Seasons, colors, fabrics, styles, trends and budgets are the important factors in learning how to fine-tune and surpass the brideâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s dream and statement for her special day. Custom and unique techniques and styles of the latest designs & trending industry colors of bridal bouquets will be explored, ranging from basic styles to all the way to European Design. DAY SCHEDULE One week of Monday-Thursday 7:00 am-4:00 pm February 22-25 April 18-21
Corsages & Boutonnieres* 32 hours You will develop mechanics and styles of fresh floral designs held and worn by women and men to complement the theme and clothing that is worn during special events, including weddings and proms. This course also covers creating and coordinating flowers, colors and styles with different events. These fashion floral accessories can be carried or worn on the shoulder, wrist, waist, neck, hair, arms or shoes. Classroom Details Courses will be conducted in the Education Center located inside the Koehler & Dramm Wholesale Florist facility in NE Minneapolis, Minnesota. -The classroom is located at the end of Aisle 1. -You can enter through the entrance by Dock Door #1-it opens at 6:30 am. The front door locat¬ed on East Hennepin opens at 8:00 am. -There is a storage cabinet, coat hook, high-backed stool, worktable and a floor stress mat for each student. -Students design in a standing position. -Each student will be responsible for his/her own work area to ensure cleanliness and safety. -Students are responsible for all their items left in the building. -Smoking is not allowed in the building or near the doorways. This facility fully complies with fire safety regulations. -For the all-day schedule courses, each day there will be two 15-minute breaks and a one-hour lunch break. -Students may bring their own lunches or purchase these off-site. Food vending machines, microwaves and a refrigerator are on the premises. Phone Use Cell phones that are turned on and/or phone conversations are NOT allowed in the classroom. Please change cell phones to the vibrate option. We do have a phone by the reception desk if you would need to make calls during breaks. Required Tools May Be Purchased On Day 1 Each student must provide his/her own following three tools: 1) Small, sharp non-serrated knife 2) Ribbon (fabric) scissors 3) Wire cutter Tools may be brought from home or may be purchased at wholesale prices from Koehler & Dramm the first day of class, after the tool identification portion of the course is complete. (Please read “Shopping” above) Tool costs vary; students spend anywhere from $10.00 to $60.00 or more, depending on what they desire/ need. 7.775% Minnesota State sales tax will be added. All tools are professional quality. Wholesale tool prices are subject to change. Koehler & Dramm sells an extensive line of tools for the student who wishes to purchase additional items for the advanced courses (i.e., heavy-duty wire cutters for the Permanent Botanical course.) Enrollment and Eligibility
Eligibility: All students having a strong interest in floral design, and at least 16 years of age. There is no application process or fee for standard registration. Credit Transfer If you have not completed Floristry 1 - Basic Design, but have completed a basic course at an approved floral-instructed school, or have five (5) or more years design experience in the floral industry, please call 800298-0495 to have the Primary Instructor determine if you pre-qualify to take any course following Floristry 1 - Basic Design. Once you have been pre-approved by the Instructor, you will be sent our written application form to be returned with two letters of floral design experience recommendation and a $50.00 application fee. The submitted application will then be evaluated and the student will be contacted if he/she is qualified to enroll in any advanced courses without enrolling in Floristry 1 - Basic Design. Please allow approximately two weeks turn-around time for the phone interview and application process. The guides for the Diploma of Floral Arts Science are the student will complete 350 hours of class time. All courses must be completed within a three-year period. It is the duty of the
student to keep track of his/her own courses and hours.

Floristry 1, Business Basics, Permanent Botanicals and Potter’s Bench Profits are required courses of the Diploma of Floral Arts and Sciences. Courses may be taken in any order after completing Floristry 1 - Basic Design. A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded at the completion of each 18-40 hour course; the Diploma of Floral Arts and Sciences will be awarded upon completion of the 300 hours within a threeyear period.
You can enter through the entrance by Dock Door #1-it opens at 6:30 am. The front door located on East Hennepin opens at 8:00 am. You will design in a standing position. Smoking is not allowed in the building or near the doorways. This facility fully complies with fire safety regulations.
To total 350 hours, you may take as many 18-hour courses, 32-hour courses, 40-hour courses, Hands-On-Wednesday Seminars as you will need (each 18-hour, 32-hour or 40-hour course counts only once). The student must fill out an ‘Intent to Graduate’ Form at least one week prior to graduation date in order to receive a Diploma. Please check the box on the registration form or notify our office if you intend to work toward the Diploma. The student may decide to work toward the Diploma at any time during his/ her coursework. For the all-day schedule courses, each day there will be two 15-minute breaks and a one-hour lunch break. You may bring your own lunches or purchase these offsite. Food vending machines, microwaves and a refrigerator are on the premises.

If a credit card is used to pay a deposit, the Institute of Floristry will not automatically charge the balance of any tuition owed without the consent of the payer. Upon receipt of registration form and deposit, a prospective student’s course space will be held and a confirmation letter (and invoice, if applicable) will be mailed. The confirmation letter will contain information of the final date that any balance due must be received by our office. (For example: if a course begins on a Monday, the balance must be in our office on or before the Wednesday prior; if a course begins on a Tuesday, the balance must be in our office on or before the Thursday prior.)
Enrollment Policies Courses fill up quickly, so register early to reserve your selected date. Enrollment is based on a firstcome, first-serve basis. Each course is limited to 16 students maximum. Prospective students are not allowed to attend any course without pre-registering. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover or money
If the student does not attend the first day of any day course or the first two evenings of any evening course, and has not informed the Institute of Floristry’s office of the absence, the Institute of Floristry has the right to fill the seat with another student. We reserve the right to cancel any course due to the enrollment level or unforeseen circumstances. A minimum of 5 students is required to run a course as scheduled. Students

who have paid tuition or registration fees for a course that canceled will receive a complete refund. Course dates are subject to change. Please call to verify dates before enrolling (the Institute of Floristry will inform the enrolled students of the change(s), if applicable). With Koehler & Dramm’s Institute of Floristry being a private institute, we do not offer financial aid. If a student has received a gift certificate for a course, the student must include the certificate with a registration form and follow pre-registration requirements. The Refunds & Cancellation Policy will apply to Gift Certificates if a student needs to cancel a course for which he/she is registered. Tools must be brought/purchased if not included in the certificate’s value. (Please read “Required Tools” on page 13). There will be a $20.00 fee for any non-sufficient funds check received.

Job Center/Employer Enrollment Procedures A Minnesota or private Job Center/Employer that is enrolling a student must adhere to the following conditions: A Koehler & Dramm Customer Application form will need to be submitted to Koehler & Dramm’s Credit Department. The Enrollment Procedures above must be adhered to, with the exception that in place of a registration fee, an authorization formcan be sent to hold a student’s place in class.

Ardith E. Beveridge AAF AIFD PFCI CAFA MSF (All Courses) Ardith is an internationally accredited floral designer and judge.. Her accomplishments in the floral industry include: international floral designer, consultant, commentator and panel designer for floral design shows; judge in floral design contests; a Rose Bowl Parade Float lead floral designer; and the Presidential Inauguration’s floral designer. She also received the Tamy Bright Award from the Society of American Florists for Lifetime Achievement in the floral industry. Ardith continues to gain education and certification by attending and teaching courses and remaining active in a wide array of organizations within the floral industry throughout the world. ASSOCIATE INSTRUCTORS Sue Bagge Floristry 2-Intermediate Design (Ikebana section) workshops and to study the culture and gardens. She has developed workshops for the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum that have focused on ikebana using plants that are
Beverly Colson Wedding/Celebration Design Beverly, floral designer and founder of Posies Studio, is a certified graduate of Koehler & Dramm’s Institute of Floristry. Beverly has studied and instructed in various styles of American, European and Ikebana design. She specializes in designing for weddings, other events. Lynne Tischler Lynne Tischler is the owner of Your Enchanted Florist in St. Paul which has been in business for 15 years. In 1994 Lynne earned her advanced floral certificate at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. She is extremely creative and keeps herself current on the latest ideas and trends. Her designs have received numerous awards and many of her creations have been featured in Midwest Home, The Knot (Minneapolis and New York), as well as Brides Magazine. Lynne was the 3rd place winner in the Minnesota State Floral design competition in 2006,

was Koehler and Dramm’s floral artist of the year in 2011, and participated in the Sylvia Cup in 2012. Your Enchanted Florist was awarded encore awards from the Minneapolis Improvement District for continued excellence and enhancing the downtown public realm in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Your Enchanted Florist was awarded the St. Paul Blooming Program’s Bronze Bloom Award for outstanding public art. Kiesa Goodwin Floristry 1-Basic Design Kiesa has been at Koehler & Dramm since 2005. She formerly worked as the Design Supervisor and really enjoyed the fast paced work and the detailed nature of the job. She is now a valuable member of the Plants Department. When Kiesa isn’t working with flowers she loves to cook. Since she was a little girl, her dream was to work with flowers and plants, so she considers herself blessed every day to be able to work in the floral industry. Emily Gorg Floristry 4-Masters Class (Photography) Emily is currently the Marketing Manager for Koehler & Dramm Wholesale Florist and has also worked as a professional photographer specializing in weddings since 2009. She earned her BS in Advertising from the Art Institutes International Minnesota, and comes to Koehler with a background in graphic design and marketing for the wedding and powersports industries. Although she is a relative newbie in the floral industry, she has
quickly found a new niche for her skills, Jessica Leopold Floristy 4-Masters Class Jessica has been an active member of the floral industry since she was 15 years old— attending an Agriculture-based high school and working in a local flower shop throughout her high school and college career. She has completed floral design classes in Denver, Colorado and has expanded her design skills and floral know-how by working with multiple florists throughout the United States. Her design aptitude has aided her to design hundreds of weddings/ events both here at home as well as across the US. She has also designed for the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California, helping to complete five of the floats in the 2009 parade. She has worked closely with the operations of surrounding state florists and has served three terms as a board member of the Minnesota State Floral Association. Marna Hansen Floristry 1-Basic Design Marna is a native to both Minnesota and its floral industry. Her greatgrandparents owned a SE Minneapolis floral/greenhouse operation established in 1885. As a fourth-generation florist, she has a passion for flowers, people and learning. Marna is the past President of Teleflora’s Minndakota Unit and is the current Floral Operations Manager and Senior Design Specialist of Sympathy Florists in Plymouth. She also serves on the Minnesota State Florist Association Board as Education

The Diploma of Floral Arts and Sciences (DOFAS) can be received from the Institute of Floristry when you complete 350 hours of coursework in full. You will then be recognized with the acronym ‘CPFD’ which will follow your name. It stands for ‘Certified Professional Floral Designer’.
Claudia was raised in the retail floral and garden industry, and she earned a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Illinois. Her experience has brought her through many industry changes, firsthand. Claudia feels the customer has more choices, but their reasons for purchasing flowers and plants remain still centered on wanting to convey their emotions. Lee Reynolds Potter’s Bench Profits Lee is a professional garden and landscape designer, working with tropical and hardy subjects. For more than a decade, she has given talks on gardening, sharing her knowledge on how to choose and care for appropriate plants. For the institute, she applies her experience in indoor plant maintenance to a segment of Potter’s Bench Profits. Sandy Von De Linde Business Basics Sandy’s background is in accounting and she was an owner of a floral shop, Potpourri Flora. She has meshed the two worlds to teach how to be a wise business owner. and many referrals.
