THOUGHTS The level of adaptivity of a design towards the existing communities, responsiveness to the environment and sensitivity to the economy are what I am truly believed in. As a graduate architect, I am open to experimentation, exploration, constructive criticisms in order to achieve a breakthrough. I believe that we have the responsibilities to innovate and to attempt new programs, rather than to solve a given task as we must open to new vistas, approaches, challenges and aspirations in order to create a better living for future.

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE PREFACE: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN THESIS 2018 - 19 SESSION

The Beginning Stage of the Design Thesis The process of building starts from having a site to be studied. The context and area was studied in order to find what is needed for the people in the area. Several sites provided the opportunity for explora on in what we should do to fulfill the need/s of the people. Programs were derived from the study made and developed into architecture programs to be proposed as part of the design brief. The client is basically the people you design for but jus fied to thinking about the real world and the owner/s of the sites that are possible to be explored. The architecture programs will be used to draw up a scheme. Some ideas and constraints would give rise to a scheme which then developed through a process of verifica on and valida on. The scheme is felt through a set of drawings, including site plans, floor plans, site sec ons, building sec ons, three-dimensional models and drawings, images, sketches, diagrams and even calcula ons. The design thesis provide a flow from the studies done at the site to finding out the problems at the site and sugges ng what is needed such as ac vity programs, which then leads to architectural programs, calculated by the site’s area with a schedule of accommoda on [in the special semester] to drawing up a scheme and developing the scheme further with a comprehensive set of drawings to illustrate the ideas and concept at a very early stage [in the first semester]. It is important to note that a collec ve and collabora ve process that involves the students, studio masters and visi ng cri cs contribute to the student developing that process in a cyclical and itera ve manner, which is also suggested to be experien al. The agenda for the program is however described as a linear process, where the studies done are then analysed, synthesised or conceptualized to come to a summary and conclusion from the studies in the beginning stage to enable the student to start designing and producing the scheme. Towards the end The semester two is a further explora on in a more detailed manner on many aspects of the scheme culmina ng with a set of comprehensive set of drawings that will convey the final concept which includes 1:50 cross sec ons and longitudinal sec ons, big sec ons or part sec ons in 1:20 or 1:25. If the project is small in size, the expecta ons is to even create a more detailed sec ons in 1:10 or even 1:5. Compared to a real design and build project, the conclusion of a real life project is to build it but for a student’s project, the drawings and models will represent the building as if you can feel the concept through the drawings.

The design thesis program covers an academic year of 36 weeks comprising of three semesters of the final year (year 2) M. Arch. course: 1. Special Semester – Design Project Brief (8 weeks) Pre Thesis Research, BAGS 6203 (3 credits) 2. Semester 1 – Development of a Scheme (14 weeks) Architecture Design Thesis I, BAGS 6204 (8 credits) 3. Semester 2 – Detail Design and Special Studies (14 weeks) Architecture Design Thesis II, BAGS 6205 (8 credits) The special semester is when the student concentrates on comple ng a design project brief. We iden fied two approaches: 1. Issues driven; OR 2. Site-issues driven. A er researching, the first will inform the students of what program should be done on the site, whereas the second is finding the site to complement the topic (issue) or vice-versa. The UM School of Architecture’s approach is based on a realis c and pragma c approach. The exercise includes iden fying issues and problems based on research inves ga on, developing and confirming the design project brief. The nature of the thesis requires the students to empathize with the users and address the site context even if the project is ‘hypothe cal’. Usually, with the idenfica on of the issues and problems, the student produces a design problem or problem statement. From the study, an architecture program with a schedule of accommoda on is proposed, along with case studies and precedent studies rela ng to the topic. Hence a er researching, analysing and synthesising, the students present a design thesis proposal along with the project brief. In semester one, the students will develop the design project brief that was done before in special semester and develop the design scheme up to the design development stage. Students are given me to study deeply the subject by sketching and searching for the right beginning and establishing ideas that will eventually have a concept, strong enough to be developed further in a process of design right up to design development (more refined than just a scheme). For gradua ng Part 2 level, the tes mony of competence lies in the iden fica on, objec fying and providing a solu on to the problem of the building type, hence the case studies and precedent studies were important to establish a strong jus fica on of the project and site and could be further studied to assist with the design. The third and final stage in semester two, the students con nue with the development of the scheme but in a greater depth and detail. The detailed design stage concentrates on developing in detail the special aspects of the design project, called special studies.

STUDIO MASTER’S MESSAGE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN THESIS 2018 - 19 SESSION

We had an occasion for giving a speech yesterday in conjunc on with the Paradoxical Gradua on Show at UM Gallery.

The students worked in a group during semester one and some had to also work as a group later on when their design matured and developed, especially those around the bazaar area.

This is the gist of the speech that I gave in the conclusion of our U2 studio 2018/19.

Kampung Kerinchi design thesis program follows the approach of “site-context issues driven” agendas for the projects. It is to do with urban design, master-planning and the urban architecture type ( as opposed to the standalone building type with issues devoid from the context). Hence, all of the programs comes from the issues from the site, the people, community, neighbourhood, those working and especially those who live at the site area. The studio is concerned with solving the real problems from the study and research of the area.

The design thesis studio experience goes hand in hand with the design thesis experience that each student underwent. The former involves the tutors whereby the la er is the student’s own world which the tutors may not know of. We can grade both, in fact, the students were given a grade by the tutors. A student may have scored an A for the studio work but failed in that year in their personal world, as I recounted arguing with my housemate and being an “ass” back in London. Anyway, the bo om line that I wished to convey that although we are in a studio with others, we are working on our own and we can be a champion in our own league. A league of our own. And that’s what really counts in this world / life. How we rate ourselves at the end of the day. Our studio leader in the tutors and cri cs team is Kevin Mark Low. I had been conduc ng the design thesis studio with Kevin, 5 mes and with Lisa, twice now. I have conducted the design thesis studio 7 mes now, twice the second year studio and many mes the 3rd year studio and once the 4th year. But in the end we must know how best to run the studio and Kevin is great as the leader of the team, with his mo va on and vision. Our cri cs were: Ar. Chris Wong, Amna Emir, Ar. Loke Chew Ping, Ar. Ch’ng Sao Inn, Ar. BC Ang, Ar. Ang Wen Hsia, Kamil Merican, Cheah Kok Ming (NUS) and Ar. Foo Hui Ping. They are the consultants and some mes experts. In fact all of us, Kevin, Lisa and I have to be consultants and experts, but Lisa and I have to be the coaches all the me.

Consultant <> Expert <> Coach We thank Dr Azzam and Ar Sarly for defending our studio during the por olio review. So let’s start with what our studio is about. Our students rose to the challenges that were given to them. The reless hearts, Najihah and Sam, with a li le bit more to do; the brave hearts, Eva and Joo Yin, who always took blows a er blows of challenges; the pace se ers, Cheryl and Saiful, who are the leaders in terms of the program; the explorers and travellers, Zee, Yasmin, Adam, Amirul and Azmeer; and the designers, Khai Ling, Zi Shuang, Michelle and Jia. We celebrate their achievements.

This summarises the approach to design and methodology of our engagement in conceptual design, detailed design and special studies. The conceptual diagram is very important from start to finish, and is the tes mony to the designer on whether she or he was successful in the program. Yesterday, we concluded the learning episode and brought it to a close. And we start another journey. I told them, we shall pray that they are now equipped and confident to face more challenges in their life as a graduate architect.

UNIT 1: ISSUE BASED The Issue-Based Studio The UM School of Architecture’s approach is based on a realis c and pragma c approach. Hence a er researching, analysing and synthesising, the students present a design thesis proposal along with the project brief.

UNIT 2: SITE ISSUE BASED The Site-Context Architectural Design Thesis Studio The reasons for the ‘site-context’ approach in design thesis are for: The learning experience at the 5th year level. That is to conclude the learning that has been done previously for 4 years to prepare the poten al graduate architect for an approach to design that is focused on prac ce. The learning of an approach that is research-oriented design that will help with design with empathy and designing for the people and community. Learning some skills on doing ‘ac vity mosaics’ and interviews for example. The understanding of the social and cultural implica ons in designing and to bridge the gap between planning and architecture focusing on urban design issues as well as building issues. These encompass development issues. The in-depth explora on of the site issues which translates in the complexi es of the program and substan al studies on real world design and build preroga ves.

PRE-THESIS ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN THESIS 2018 - 19 SESSION

The Site-Context Architectural Design Thesis Studio: Pantai Dalam area near highway / Kampung Kerinchi Studio tutors: Naziaty Mohd Yaacob (lead); Kevin Mark Low; others (Faez Jais – teaching assistant) The development of the ‘site-context’ approach is synonymous with ‘community architecture’, ‘social architecture’, ‘site-driven issues’ project and even ‘real world’ project. To communicate effec vely, the use of the term ‘site-context’ best describes the approach undertaken by the studio tutors.

Site and Brief The Client are various stakeholders including the MP for Pantai Dalam, Encik Fahmi Fadzil, whose concerns in the ‘real world scenario’ of the development of Pantai Dalam including Kampung Kerinchi and other kampungs (villages). A study on Kampung Kerinchi including the sites which were divided by the NPE highway are to made especially the sites that access the river area. A maximum of two building sites will be iden fied where students will be developing the sites and brief that will assist the community of Kampung Kerinchi.

Background Study The reasons for the ‘site-context’ approach in design thesis are for: 1. The learning experience at the 5th year level. That is to conclude the learning that has been done previously for 4 years to prepare the poten al graduate architect for an approach to design that is focused on prac ce. 2. The learning of an approach that is research-oriented design that will help with design with empathy and designing for the people and community. Learning some skills on doing ‘ac vity mosaics’ and interviews for example. 3. The understanding of the social and cultural implica ons in designing and to bridge the gap between planning and architecture focusing on urban design issues as well as building issues. These encompass development issues. 4. The in-depth explora on of the site issues which translates in the complexi es of the program and substan al studies on real world design and build preroga ves. 5. Special studies include building engineering, systems thinking and universal design.

Much of the area that we now call Bangsar South, KL Eco City and the area around the river which has been divided by the NPE highway were villages in the 19th century. The founders were the Kerinchi, Minagkabau and Jambi people from Sumatra and the people were affected by squa er clearance and redevelopment of the area. The MP for Pantai Dalam were concerned by the unbalanced development of the area and ques ons the re-iden ty of Bangsar South which is purely one sided and specula ve development of the developers. The low-cost housing that plies much of the area around the Klang river lack some community facili es and infrastructure and the barrier was created with the new highway.

Pre Thesis Research occurs during the special semester, where the student concentrates on comple ng a design project brief. The exercise includes iden fying issues and problems based on research inves ga on on the design thesis topic, finding site, basic site analysis, developing and confirming the design project brief. For Architecture Design Thesis I, the students will develop the design project brief that was done in the special semester and do further site analysis and develop the design concept up to the design development stage. The final stage in semester two for Architecture Design Thesis II, the students con nue with the development of the scheme but in a greater depth and detail. The detailed design stage concentrates on developing in detail the special aspects of the design project, integra ng structure and services and do specific special studies.

PRE-THESIS INTRODUCTION

Kampung Kerinchi The selected site for this design thesis is basically located at Lembah Pantai, situated within Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Lembah Pantai is also located in between the borders of Selangor and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. The major highway that cut across Kampung Kerinchi is the Federal Highway, whereby the opposite of the highway are the landmarks of well-known Telekom Malaysia (TM) tower and University of Malaya. Due to the development taking place in recent years, Kampung Kerinchi, within the cons tuency of Lembah Pantai, had encountered a major and serious issues of gentrifica on due to various investment and development taking place, where by the local started to ques on their exis ng assets being aected socially, environmentally, economically and physically. The major developers and projects undertaking within Kampung Kerinchi are as: 1. IJM Land- Pantai Sentral Park (Masterplan) 2. UOA Group- Bangsar South Masterplan 3. Suez Capital Sdn. Bhd (Suezcap)- KL Gateway Mall Kampung Kerinchi is basically divided into 9 major districts: 1. Pantai Dalam 2. Kampung Kerinchi 3. Bangsar South 4. Bukit Putra 5. Bukit Angkasa 6. Bukit Kerinchi 7. Kampung Pantai 8. Kampung Pasir 9. Pantai Hillpark

KAMPUNG KERINCHI Urban Analysis

History of Kampung Kerinchi The infamous history is the opening of the area which started as a squa er village before turning into Kampung Kerinchi. Kerinchi has come a long way since its pioneers’ se lement years. Kerinchi’s rich 200 years story is soon to change as this urban hamlet is undergoing major gentrifica on works and is morphing into a modern extension of the city. Started as a farming community during the early se lers period two centuries ago, kerinchi consist of local people as well immigrant from jambi, indonesia. It was founded by haji abdullah and his people, a group of sumatran from kerinchi, jambi in indonesia (ibid, 2010). Kerinchi people were from rural and hilly area in sumatra. They had se led in malaya at the area which almost the same like their origin so that they can do the farming like grew pineapples, paddy and fruits (ibid, 2010). They settled at kerinchi over the years by built up Squa ers se lement that later become very big area of slum squa ers. In 1990’s, the authority, dbkl was decided to develop the area with low cost flats and middle cost apartment in this area. Some of the squa ers were demolished and they were moved to the new flats provided by dbkl in 1993. But some of them were move in around 1998. Nevertheless, day by day, the development was rapidly growing in kuala lumpur city with every single piece of the land were developed with commercial and high end residen al. Including kerinchi, the development has ly growth by uoa group changed the original landscape of the area. In fact, kampung kerinchi name was reportedly changed to bangsar south by dbkl in 2012, a move that was purportedly taken to reflect its upgraded image. The new development that coming in, most of them are provided for the high group community with grade a offices, retail avenues, bou que condominiums, service suites and clubhouse. The market strategies more or less were a rac ng the interna onal people and high class group. Yet, the exis ng residents which are s ll in the low to middle class community will be affected by this development.

1890 - 1950

1951 - 1975

Most of the people are originated from “Kerinchi” in Indonesia, in Kerinchi- Indonesia, the topography and landscape of it were on the highlands, which were cooler and comfortable weather to stay on. As the people of “Kerinchi” mainly moved from Indonesia ( Nusantara before the Indonesia claimed independent from the Dutch), they looked for areas which were similar to the Kerinchi back in their origin.

“Angkasapuri” or known as “Wisma RTM” was then set up on the year of 1969 on Bukit Putra- currently, and Flat Kerinchi( old blocks) now known as Residensi Kerinchi-since 2017 were set up on the year of 1971. As various housing projects and typologies started to be implemented by the government as part of the major policies back then.

1976 - 2000

2001- 2019 (Current)

Federal highway were then constructed in the year of 1971, several housing typologies were then follow up. First was Flat PKNS in 1976, Kondod Rakyat (Phase 1) in 1993,Taman Bukit Angkasa in 1993, Vista Angkasa in 1994, Pantai Panorama Condominum in 1996, PPR Pantai Ria , PPR Kampung Limau and Mid Valley Mega Mall in 1999, Desa Aman PDRM in 2000.

Various landmark projects such as Telekom Tower (completed in 2001). Masterplans from developers such as UOA, IJM Land and Suezcap started to set up their projects within varios parcels of land such as Pantai Sentral Park in between Kampung Pantai, Kampung Pasir and Bukit Kerinchi. Indah Water Consor um (IWK) waste management plant at Kampung Pasir area, Bangsar South Masterplan and KL Gateway Mall were constructed in recent 10 years.

KAMPUNG KERINCHI Topography

The major hilly site of the en re Kampung Kerinchi are focuses on the Bukit Kerinchi and the Bukit gasing itself, whereby there are ongoing Pantai Sentral Park which located at the SouthWest of the Bukit Kerinchi by IJM Land, and the exisitng Pantai Hill Park which are among the highest point of the en re Kampung Kerinchi, as the slope goes down to the heart of Kampung Kerinchi ( between Bukit Kerichi, Bukit Angkasa and Bangsar South) and the toplography goes up to the North-West, which is the Bukit Putra ( Exisitng Angkasapuri and ongoing construc on of new Angkasapuri). The rest of the Kampung Kerinchi, on the East side- Kampung Pantai and Kampung Pasir are with gentle and flat topographies.

The street market happens along jalan pantai permai 1, selling cooked food, wet and dry goods and household items. As can be seen from the map, most high-end comercial ac vi es are focused in the upper part of kerinchi, dominated the whole por on of building without much diversity. Pantai hillpark residen al area also showcase the similar pa ern of ac vity mosaic. Meanwhile in the housing area located in the heart of kerinchi, there are more diverse of colors and variety of ac vi es as well as small businesses being carried out. These formed the lifelihood of a community and the original kerinchi community can be traced.

Diversity Meanwhile, it also holds the character and essence of the en re Kampung Kerinchi, which it anchored the centre of the en re Kampung Kerinchi in various community-related values, which includes the diversi es of the surrounding communi es and context. And it also serves as a heartbeat of Kampung Kerinchi to be preserved for years to come.

Exis ng Marketplace / Bazars/ Food Courts as the alterna ves for Commercial areas/ Office staffs besides high-end restaurant only on cheap and reasonable foods, but not for the service or aminity purposes. The exisi ng Food court/ Bazar (1. Medan Selera Seri Angkasa Jaya, 2. Bazar Ria Pantai) mostly serves the office staffs during lunch hours. In terms of spaces to leisure and communi es who are from Kampung Kerinchi, they have more alterna vates to search for amini es and services at KL Gateway mall and AEON mall for more varie es. Compared to exisitng looking for limited choices for groceries and services at Bazar Ria Pantai and grocery retails at Bukit Angkasa. The culture of tradi onal “shopping” at tradi onal Bazars, as can been observed from the exis ng Bazar Ria, has been shi ed to shopping malls such as KL Gateway Mall and AEON mall nearby as the result of more variety and economical prices. This can be seen through many of the services and amini es spaces in Bazar Ria for instance, does not received many visitors or crowds, only as if there are Pasar Tani, Pasar Malam or Pasar Ramadhan within the areas.

The Bazaria Pantai in Kampung Kerinchi, which is built in recent 15 years, due to rapid growth of urbanisa on in Kerinchi, had encountered the major issue of connec vity, cons tutes of social, economical and physical aspects due to urbanisa on took place in Lembah Pantai. Hence, there is a need to look into the re-develpment of the Bazar Ria Pantai, taking into account the content of connec vity that includes social, economical and physical aspects, as part of the architectural

As a catalyst to foster and shape the community (Housing) as an example towards the future housing in Malaysia, taking the considera on of safety and security of the housing community by redefine and reconsider the density and height restric ons of the typical housing typology. The height control is directly propor onal to the quality that cons tutes of social, economical and environmental sustainabiliy factors.

3. AFFORDING HOUSING “Sentul Habitant

PUBLIC REALM- COMMERCIAL SETTINGSFORMATION OF SENTUL HABITANT The con nua on of green belt from the office tower to the affordable housing, creates the pleasurable working and living environment to the users. The public realm is integtrated with the commercial se ngs facing KTM Sentul, this will enable tenants and working lady (Kaum Ibu dan Wanita) who are housewives, able to display their goods, at the same me creates more dialogues with the par capa ons of the public.

DEGREE FINAL YEAR PROJECT 2014 - 16 SESSION

Refugee Village/ Camp Bandar Kinrara, Puchong , Selangor, Malaysia

Design Components 1. Mixed-use development

In this semester, students are to produce an architecture project informed by a comprehensive program, from schema c design through the detailed development of programma c spaces, structural and environmental systems, wall sec ons, and building assemblies, as may be appropriate. Each design assignment includes explicit due dates and minimum requirements which must be met. Project presenta on requirements includes explanatory descrip ons of the project (analy cal and conceptual diagrams, axonometrics, models, site models, wri en texts) technical descrip ons (site plan, plans, sec ons, eleva ons, construc on details), and experien al representa ons (perspec ves; colours, shade-and-shadow, materials studies). At the end of each design project, students make oral presenta ons of their design works and engage in class wide discussion of the design approaches manifested in the work. The design instructors formally reviewws the compiled work of each student for that term for purposes of grading. Students are responsible for preserving their works (drawings, models, etc.) and organising it in a design por olio for purposes of the review.

Introduc on We are screwed! Universi es are failing to give architects the training that will enable them to find solu ons for an imminent global crisis. “Poverty, popula on growth, natural disasters and war are combining to create demand for more than a billion homes; but architects are unable to overcome the challenges posed by poli cs, economics and building codes to deliver viable solu ons. It would be great, with more than one million architects in the world, that more solu ons and more proposals try to address the issue, “Aravena. Therefore, in this par cular project, students are given the opportunity to design a Refugee Village/ Camp. Architecture should have the ability to evoke resilience among refugees especially past a ermath as well as to educate community to prepare themselves for any future unforeseen circumstances. The following are ques ons to prompt brainstorming and should not limit your ideas: How can buildings, infrastructure and landscapes response to the refugees? How might energy be harnessed/ self-sustained? How can food producƟon be sustained by adapƟng to urban surroundings? How can the economy be maintained to ensure livelihood?

As a small but visionary mixed-used development project to demonstrate an inclusive, connected communi es, including (ins tu onal), housing, common facili es for sustainable living purposes. 2. Flexible Mul -Family residen al for staff / refugee The mul -family housing scheme intended to create a mix of densi es and dwelling types in order to minimise impacts on infrastructure ,services and/ or maintain or enhance the resident’s quality of life. 3. Connected communi es

“ THE RECEPTION” To foster the refugee community by invi ng local to par cipate directly or indirectly with the refugee communi es. “Recep on” of the refugee as part of the communi es. Open park spaces as for proper commercial se ngs and pr cipa ons of the local for ac vi es within the site to remove the sense of cultural shock, create awareness and selfbelonging to the refugees. To expose the refugee to the communi es in order to s mulate the process of adapta on of refugees from different countries into the communi es.

1. SHELTER-CUBO “Forms follow Func on”

ANALYTIQUE COMPOSITION 3. Lanyang Museum, Yilan, Taiwan.

The form of the shelter was inspired by the theory of Form follow Func on as it accounted for the human anthopometry as the main design considera on. The design of the forms are according to the func on proposed, to be served in the proposed shelter. The cubooctahedro form are designed as the principle form due to its high head rooms, in order to create a comfortable sleeping interior ambience. Prism is the seconday design which cater for body and leg rooms. The two enormously designed handle on the exterior serves as a handle and to contain the shelter itself when it is at the disassemble state.

In 1989, local Yilan personnel proposed the establishment of Kailan Museum. In December 1992, Yilan County Government established the Museum Preparatory and Planning Commi ee and the official name of the museum was chosen to be Lanyang Museum. The museum loca on was chosen to be near Wushi Harbor area in Toucheng Township. In September 1994, the Yilan County Government appointed Na onal Museum of Natural Science and Building and Planning Research Founda on of Na onal Taiwan University to form the planning team to implement Lanyang Museum Overall Development and Planning Research which was completed in 1995. In March 1999, the Lanyang Museum Preparatory Office was established. Artech architecture was awarded the design and construc on for the museum in April 2000.

2. “PRIVA-SEAT” 4. London Summer Olympics 2012- Water Polo Arena Priva-seat provides privacy in two configura ons. When it curves outwards, it allows the users to indulge themselves into their comfort zones whereby they cannot pry to seaters next to them. When transforming the curve components inwards, it offers a visual boundary and a pleasant amount of privacy. The “Priva-Seat able to cater for a group of 4 people.

The Water Polo Arena was a venue of the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012. It was situated in the south-east corner of the Olympic Park, alongside the Aqua cs Centre, and opposite the Olympic Stadium on the opposite bank of the Waterworks River. The Aqua cs Centre and Water Polo Arena were adjacent to each other in one of the most compact areas of the park. To make the best use of the space available, some back-of-house facili es, such as space for broadcasters, catering and security, were shared between the two venues. Construc on on the temporary structure began in spring 2011. During the Olympics, the 5,000-seat arena[1] hosted both the men’s and women’s water-polo compe ons, and contained both a warm-up pool and a 37-metre (121foot) compe on pool.[1] The first dedicated water-polo venue to be built for an Olympics,[2] the structure was taken down a er the games. Elements of the venue were expected to be reused or relocated elsewhere.[3] Parts of the roofing covers and membranes of different temporary venues of the building were to be recycled via Vinyloop. This allowed the organizers to meet the standards of the Olympic Delivery Authority, concerning environmental protec on. Through this recycling process, the Olympic Games PVC Policy was to be fulfilled, which stated that Where London 2012 procures PVC for temporary usage or where permanent usage is not assured, London 2012 is required to ensure that there is a take-back scheme that offers a closed loop reuse system or mechanical recycling system for post-consumer waste. London 2012 were the first Olympic Games whose guidelines included the recycling of PVC.[4]
