1. TORONTO MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE ARC 720 Architecture Option Studio / 2019 Location: 88 College Street Toronto
The Toronto Museum of Architecture acts as the rebirth of historic architecture in the urban setting by reviving a new cultural and education hub from an old artifact. The proposed design provides visitors with a range of spaces for both architectural related exhibits and workshop areas. This is translated through a clear design separation between the existing historic church to the east and the new addition to the west. Between these two spaces is a central atrium corridor that acts as a spine for connecting but also differentiating the old and new. Paying homage to social and communal aspects of historic churches, the church embodies programs of both workshops and public learning spaces. On the other hand, the modern addition provides more traditional and contemplative museum exhibits. By merging the old and new as one, the museum takes users on an architectural journey by respecting its roots and giving new meaning to a place of worship that once was.

2. OCAD SCHOOL OF DESIGN ASC 520 Integration Studio I / 2018 Location: TBD Site164-211 Sterling Road
The OCAD School of Design is a satellite campus located in the Lower Junction Triangle. The school is home to a variety of creative and design disciplines including: photography, ceramics, woodshop, foundational and industrial studios. The building’s major goal is to create collaborative relationships between the many disciplines by promoting transparency between each studio. This has been done through the implementation of a central atrium in which all studios are lined up to face towards. Accompanied is a dynamic ring style circulation that wraps around the atrium. This allows the opportunity for each studio to have not just a visual dialog with other studios, but also amenity areas and circulation spaces in between; ultimately allowing for maximum collaboration between every aspect of the building. By promoting collaboration and transparency throughout, the school allows itself to act as a giant activity-filled gallery space for visitors, students, and the surrounding community. Masterplan: The Lower Junction Triangle suffered from a lack of greenspace and approachability. Therefore, opening up a pedestrian gateway from Bloor St. would pull people into the site through activity and sitelines. This would then create a continuum into the proposed public greenspace that surrounds the school. A series of bridges and buildings were also added for site convenience.

A central atrium creates a core for the many disciplines to interact with and around.
A portion is pushed towards the east and west facade. Both connecting back to the central core atrium.
The east caters towards serving internal programs and acts as a main entrance gesturing towards future plans of the TTC station. The west poses a cut out creating a valley condition that exposes/ pours the building into the public space.

3. TORONTO YOUTH HOUSING FOUNDATION ASC 401 Design Studio III / 2018 Location: 412 & 414 Church St. Toronto
The Toronto Youth Housing Foundation (TYHF) is a transitional home for youth. Presented with cases of vulnerability, the main goal of the building is to emphasize and foster a sense of community and belonging amongst the residents and the entire building. The building design does this through a central exterior courtyard where activity takes place within and around; be that circulation, program, or views. The centrally oriented theme is important to promote community through resident interaction and relationship. The building not only provides a main tarmac area for residential activity, but also relates and connects the living with the activity quarters. By creating this micro community, the building ultimately helps to increase the social life within the building as well as provide a sense of home for the residents.
Outdoor Ammenity Connection The outdoor ammenity space is placed so that there is connection between all three as well as allowing sunlight to penetrate from the front of the building (GR) to the back of the building (Terrace)

4. BOTANIST RESEARCH CABIN ASC 201 Design Studio I / 2017 Location: Evergreen Brickworks Toronto
This research cabin is designed around the life and conveniences of a single botanist conducting fieldwork study. The cabin focuses on the concept of creating a clear separation between work and life but also unifying them under one roof. The cabin is sited in between a pedestrian path to the west and a ravine condition to the east. Work programs are situated closer towards the path while living quarters are further removed and face towards views of the site. This provides easy access to conduct on site research as well as in lab research, and easy movability between the two if needed. The balance between the working and living program are also shown through a formal separation in the buildings massing; one slightly shifted both horizontally and vertically from the other.

sloped roof for water to shed
Form Generation The cabin focuses on seperating as well as connecting the two programs; work and living. It does this by lowering ‘living’ closer to the more private stream of water while lifting the ‘work’ to hug closer to the pedestrian path. The sloped roof allows rainwater to shed back into the soil and stream.

5. CONQUEST ARC 820 Competition Studio / 2020 Partners: Tiana Lee, Nicole Li
Conquest is a self-sustaining, space mining habitat designed for 2000 people to be launched into space in the year 2032. As its main purpose is space mining, the habitat’s design is derived from the concept of a factory production line, with an emphasis on extracting minerals from asteroids. As asteroids are caught and pushed through the central core system, they are sequentially broken down and processed into mineral goods. Its modular construction and self sustaining strategies allow continuous expansion to accomodate population growth, providing opportunities to create a permanent habitat in space. Surrounding the processing rings, the habitat is supported by two wings of program consisting of processing and living facilities, ultimately creating for a work-life seperation on board. The entire space habitat takes on a form of curves and spirals to accomodate and introduce centrifugal force for users and equipment to stay grounded. 6. LUCENT ASC 755 Digital Tools/ 2019 Partners: Keanu Salimi, PJ Sandberg, Sara Lee Chantal Shahmooradian, Julia Krulicki
Lucent creates an atmosphere similar to a glacier or an ice cave. The user is able to walk through the cave-lke installation, met with various fragmented pieces of acrylic adhered to vaccum-formed prisms. This crystalized structure is illuminated from behind, allowing light to pour through the various cracks between the fragments. When approached, the lights behind to breathe and mimic effects similar to light dancing through ice. This interactive component paired with the mirroed fragments draw reflection on man’s connection to nature, and how our movements affect surroundings especially in an era so influenced by our environmental impact.
