Focuses on essential university-level reading and writing skills. Prerequisite: Appropriate score on Dorset English Proficiency Exam or successful completion of Dorset AP III. Co-requisite: ENGL 097 ______________________________________________________________ Learning Outcomes: When students have successfully completed the Reading and Writing component of English 096 they will be able to: * Construct simple, compound, and complex sentences * Organize their thoughts and prepare outlines * Produce well-organized, focused paragraphs with clear topic sentences * Develop coherence through transitional expressions *Provide adequate for their topic sentences * Comprehend texts of varying styles and lengths _______________________________________________________________ Course Content: English 096 is one of Dorset's two first-level English courses in the College's university transfer (UT) programs. This course is meant to provide students with instruction and practice in the basic English language skills necessary for success in the Dorset English course sequence (English 096/097; English 098; English 099; English 100; English 150). In English 096 students will focus on gaining good reading and writing skills at the "High Intermediate" level. In the co-requisite course, English 097, students will focus on gaining good listening and speaking skills at the "High Intermediate" level.
