Airport Operations English Interactions


Course Overview This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students in the AO program to gain a broad perspective of the varied communication experiences that exist in an academic learning environment as well as that related to the workplace. This course will consist of components designed to instruct students in listening, speaking, reading and writing at an academic level. Course Objectives The overall goal of this course is that students will develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for general and academic environments. As much as possible, this will include language within the context related what students will experience at a tertiary educational institution such as BCIT. Learning outcomes Upon successful completion of this course students will: • read at a level of comprehension acceptable for entry into BCIT • write academic paragraphs or essays at a level acceptable for entry into BCIT • listen at a level of comprehension acceptable for entry into BCIT • use English to participate in group and class discussions at an academic level • Effective use and understand expressions related to airport operations Course Requirements and Evaluation Homework and Participation (evaluated every class): 15% Quizzes and Assignments : 65% (Listening quizzes; reading quizzes; writing assignments; etc.) Midterm: 20% Final: 30% Course Materials * Required Texbook: WorldView 3, by Gillie Cunningham, Robin Wileman, Sue Mohamed, Araminta Crace New Directions (2nd ed): Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking by Peter, S.
