Communications 100
In Oral Communication/Presentations students will explore, study and understand the essential elements of public speaking and presentations. Students will learn techniques to present in front of an audience and analyze speeches that they hear. The course work will be theoretical as well as practical and active. The components that will be studied in this course are understanding the various types of speeches; preparing and planning speeches; making an outline and writing a speech; delivery techniques; body language and gestures; controlling nervousness and stage fright; effective use of visual aids. As well as traditional assessment by the instructor, both Selfassessment and peer-assessment will be used. Some team work will be required. Students will have to work extensively on all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) throughout the course. Learning Outcomes When students have successfully completed Communication & Presentation 100 they will be able to: * Develop research, organization, and delivery skills for the preparation and presentation of speeches. * enhance their ability to listen critically and analyze arguments and ideas in speeches * articulate and practice an ethical approach to public speaking * analyze and articulate differing rhetorical situations and create speeches that are appropriate to the situation. *Prepare comprehensive and detailed informative, demonstrative, persuasive speech outlines. *Aware of the importance of intonation, stress and other pronunciation factors involved in speech making. *Participate in peer assessment *Write self-assessment analysis based on videos.
