A Dwelling for Travis Mcgee Florida Swamplands
A residence for Travis McGee, the main character of a series of crime fiction novels by John D. MacDonald who lives on the houseboat the Busted Flush, is located in the swamplands of Florida. The house consists of three parts, the dock, the main house, and the mechanical room, where all three form an L-shape. The private functions allow the public areas to be placed at the top, where the breathtaking views of the site can be enjoyed.

Garage, Gallery, and Dwelling
Downtown Manhattan, KS
The client is a car restoration enthusiast who restores vintage Porsches. He requires a full size garage, a gallery with a reception space to display his work, as well as a residence for the family. All three spaces work together to become a unified whole, while retaining degrees of separation and forming an L-shape for the public areas.

Kansas City Exhibition Center
Kansas City, MO The Exhibition Center is located at the edge of the Crossroads Arts district in Kansas City, just north of Union Station, Liberty Memorial, and the Crown Center Complex. The building responds to its context, where the high point of the building mirrors the height of existing nearby structures as it gradually diminishes. The program is divided into four parts: the exhibition space, the support space, the mechanical space, and offices along with the ball room and meeting spaces

Hollywood Film Institute Los Angeles, CA
The Hollywood Film Institute is situated in the Hollywood Hills West district of Los Angeles, where the Entertainment Museum, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Renaissance Hotel, Kodak Theatre, Hollywood Highland Mall, and Jimmy Kimmel Live Studio are all located within walking distance from the site. Responding to the city, the building is expressed in layers articulated by angled, undulating walls, while the fire stairwells unify these layers.

Topeka Train Station Topeka, KS
A major influence in the design of the transit station was a model example of a traditional railway station, such as the St. Louis Union Station. All program requirements were within a beautiful stone building and the platforms located near the back was a simple iron arch canopy. Th e Topeka Train Station is organized similarly with all the program requirements occurring within a contemporary concrete and steel building, and a metal paneling sytem with steel construction acting as a canopy for the platforms. The purity of the rectangular prism provided for the form of the building, where spaces were carved from the box.

Riley County Historical Museum Expansion Manhattan, KS
An expansion to an existing building. The museum contains a collection of artifacts of historical significance to Riley County. A relationship with the old building is emphasized through the central axis, creating a rectangular prism. Preserving the original, historical part of the existing building as an artifact itself created a dialogue between the new and the old. This dialogue is expressed through contrasting materials, stone from the existing building and metal cladding of the expansion. This contrast enhances, as well as reinforces the original building.

Miscellaneous Works
These are works from my other classes, problems in delineation and computing in architecture. The latter touched on AutoCAD, SketchUP, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, and Autodesk VIZ. Mies Van der Rohe’s Courtyard House is used for all of the 3-D renderings, except the pavilion. These renderings are compsites, where 3-D images are taken into Photoshop, creating a final image with a sky, ground, people, etc.
